  • I've decided I prefer Rosario for the more fun or flirty songs, such as out tonight or light my candle, but I prefer Daphne for the more emotional stuff like this or Goodbye Love

  • i learned how to play this on guitar....that is triumph right there. this is my favorite song to play.

  • Daphne was offered the movie but she'd just had a kid or something and felt she was too fat....

  • @ElvenShalafi I thought she was pregnant and well, that wouldn't be great for anyone XD

Pregnant strippers aren't anyone's favorite thing.

  • @pineamn129 Pregnant, or even post-pregnancy, still-kinda-chunky doesn't sell for a stripper/coke addict/"baggage carrier"

  • It's not about who you think sings it better. It's about who makes you feel more.

  • We're playing this in a medley for my band concert. The other French Horn player and I have the solo for it, and every time I play it, I want to cry. I love this song so much it hurts. Angel was honestly one of my favorite characters that anyone's brought to stage or screen.

Also- I like both Rosario and Daphne. Both of them are great.

  • Here's the deal:

If you like Daphne, listen to the original broadway cast versions of the songs. If you prefer Rosario, listen to the songs from the movie soundtrack.

  • you do know that Rosario couldnt sing the song on her own right her voice had to be digitally altered so she could play mimi

and im not even going to get into the Daphne not understanding the character argument..

  • @xxgxxgxxgxx No she sang her parts and had to sing when she auditioned for the role but all their voices were tampered with on the film soundtrack to some extent they always do that on film versions of musicals so they have a clean recording.

  • I think Rosario did a wonderful job as Mimi... but my Mimi will ALWAYS be Daphne.

  • I kinda like this version better. Partially because of Daphne, but also Adam sounds so much better in this version. Also... The movie version makes me cry... And I don't think I can do that right now.

  • If you believe Saatchi & Saatchi is MI-6 OK. I do not believe it. I believe that in some countries ad agencies are a bigger influence than other countries, based on media saturation. It is business, yet they do not value their CFO too much. If you believe Amway is CIA, that is your belief, it is not. All business influences culture to a degree.

  • Renee FTW!

  • People tend to like who ever they heard sing the part 1st.

  • Daphne all the way. I'm partial to her because she's the first Mimi and her voice is just amazing. I like others that I've taken the role but Daphne is always #1.

  • who cares who sounds better, when u have friends living and dying with HIV and Aids that say who sounds better, too many people are suffering with HIV and more need to be done. Rent is great no matter who is singing as it opens eyes to whats happening

  • mimi is sposed 2 sound sick and weak in this song and daphne just doesnt play sick like rosario does if u listen 2 rosario she sounds like shes dieing like shes sposed 2 daphne sounds like she fine and nothing wrong

  • I like Rosario a tad more than Daphne, Rosario lived the life of Mimi growing up, she's understands the character more, she was a squater in newyork as a child, I like them both, but Rosario is just my favorite.

  • @Pepperminto99 Do you even know Daphne's story? You're probably not a rent head, otherwise you'd know every character got put in the original cast because they understood their character. you look up daphne's story

  • @Renthead113 what is her story? i can't find it anywhere....

  • @Renthead113 I know Daphne's story and I know that everyone in the original cast got picked for a reason. Daphne didn't have a life like Mimi's, Rosario did. I'm not trying to start anything. It's just my personal opinion that Rosario is more like Mimi. If you disagree, it's totally fine. (and trust me, I'm a total Rent Head :D)

  • @Pepperminto99 It's not really about what life you had, it's about how you choose to interpret the character. It's called acting.

  • @latinapeacechick I know that, but you have to understand the character in order to properly play their role. If you don't understand the character you don't understand what you're supposed to do.

  • @Pepperminto99 Uhh, who says Daphne didn't understand the character? I don't know what you're trying to say here...

  • @latinapeacechick I'm saying Rosario most likely understood the character better, making her play the role better, but if you like Daphne more, that's fine too.

  • I love this version :) but....I honestly don't know which Mimi it is -.-' Anyone care to inform me?

  • @Lydiart3 daphne

  • @Lydiart3 This is Daphne.

  • nobody else can sing this song like Daphne can...

  • This just wipes me out ... everytime ~

  • at the end of the day, the casting process for the original rent was very extensive, and jonathan larson, who wrote the music, story and created the characters, picked daphne, so daphne is blantantly what larson pictured when writing mimi. if thats not good enough for you, IF JONATHAN LARSONS opinion isnt good enough for you, then you are not a true rent fan.

  • @acegamer94 there's also a matter of people being entitled to their own opinion. i'm sure Mr Larson would agree with that atleast.

  • @acegamer94 I love rent, I do. And I like Daphne, and I like Rosario, sometimes I like Daphne better, sometimes I like Rosario better. So it's really not fair to say that's the determining factor on whether or not someone is "a true rent fan". There is so much more to this musicial then Mimi, and so much more to Mimi then whoever is playing her. If I had to choose, I'd pick Rosario, and I think that makes me a pretty big fan, cuz I love and respect every version of Rent. Except Vanessa Hudgen's

  • @HopeIsabella4 well, everyone else didn't do too too bad. she just butchered this thing, pretty freakin spectacularly. It makes me cringe, seriously.

  • this is the mimi i grew up with

  • I think that both Rosario and Daphne bring something incredibly different to the role. Daphne brings the irresponsible/naive aspect as well as the emotional depth. Rosario brings to the light the desperation of Mimi and the true effects of her addiction. Both are stunning. However, splitting hairs, I gotta choose Daphne. Rosario just cant sing this song like Daphne.

  • I think both did a wonderful job but they should not have autotuned Rosario's voice to death. I was somewhat put off by the "electronic" quality of her voice. I'm sure she would have sounded much better in her raw singing voice, like Daphne.

  • @LaMisereHQ if you watch the casting of rent movie, rosario sings out tonight in her audition, just standing and singing with no autotune, and its AWFUL

  • in the original play was the mimi character "tripping" or high at the beginning of the performance of this song?

  • @bitmapbrown I don't think so because she had the bag ready to go but she never opens it.

  • holy crap. everyone saying that daphne's voice is not how mimi is supposed to sound, that's bull. daphne is exactly how mimi is supposed to sound. it doesnt matter if you think that or not, but jonathan larsen created the character. he is the one who got to judge what mimi is supposed to be, and he chose daphne. daphne is what mimi is supposed to be. now with that, rosario may be a better singer, and all the other mimis may rock, and everyone is entitled to their own opinions and all that stuff.

  • I think Daphne's voice takes a while to get used to. After second thought, I love her in this and Goodbye Love a lot, but Out Tonight is still a little iffy for me.

  • i love how Rosario focuses on the smaller details, like being on drugs. I love how daphne sings and sounds. and i love how renee looks. i say they combine all of the mimi's together!

  • tamyra gray all the way for broadway

  • no soy muy fan de Rent pero si alguien te la dedica ni como quejarse!! yeah!

  • I saw the movie before I saw the show. When I first heard Daphne sing on the soundtrack I couldn't stand her voice. But after listening to it a few times, I love her more than Rosario.

  • @KKatastrophii Exactly the same for me, at first i didn't think her voice was my taste but now i find myself downloading the majority for the original cast recordings haha.

  • @mswixx12 Rent's never ending debate.

  • I love this song, the lyrics are so deep. I was almost on the verge of tears when I saw this live. Jonathan Larson was a true genious, may he RIP.

  • i really love the way Daphne sings this song because there is so much emotion there and her voice sounds so rough much more like what i imagine mimi to be like, i do like rosario's version but it is not as amazing as this

  • Seriously, Rosario Dawson couldn't come close to singing this as beautifully as Daphne does in her wildest dreams. Its really a shame that the movie got Rosario's lightweight voice instead of Daphne.

  • OBC ALL THE WAY.!!!!!!

  • Roger is the most adorable character, without a doubt. =]

  • I agree with Mandrakara...I love Rosario as Mimi, but for some reason I love Daphne singing this song.

  • I like both Rosario and Daphnes' versions. But Rosario has an advantage because of more studio tampering. At least in my humble opinion. But I love all things Rent.

  • i'm not a fan of daphne's ( like at ALL) but I don't mind this song...

  • Although I love both the movie and Broadway versions of RENT; this songs and all other OBC songs are sung with more passion and rawness. It it such a moving musical. I especially love Anthony, Adam, and Daphne's voices. =D Here's to Jonathan Larson and all the other RENTheads!

  • This is my favorite rent song ever. It reminds me of all the memories i had with my best friends....

  • hah!

  • sorry i definatly prefer Daphne. She's rougher with mimi. I just like her choice of character better.

  • I tend to prefer Rosario as Mimi rather than Daphne, but for some reason I love the way Daphne sounds on this song more so than Rosario. (I love them both either way. Daphne is still growing on me.)

  • @Mandrakara I completely agree with you! on rosario's version, she doesn't seem to have that much emotion, and I also like the way adam sounds here much more than on the movie version.

  • favorite song in the show. =D

  • god... i've heard this about a million times, but i am so about to cry right now...

  • this song gives me chills

  • I love this song. I know all the words like nobody's business.

  • I saw this just the other day (not broadway but a REALLY good community theater) and they Preformed this so beutifly!! Mimi and Roger were FLAWLESS the entire show!!

  • I'd loved this song ever since I had first heard Rent, but then they played it at my friend's funeral, and I have never been able to listen to it without thinking of that.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss (even though it's probably been a while since their death...) i completely understand you... only for my friend, it was "Blackbird" by the Beatles

  • I love anthony..lol random! Hey im writing a play if anyone has any ideas they want me do use ill do it!!!

  • Wow. Adam's voice has matured so much since this!

  • I saw this last Saturday in Austin and it was the most beautiful show I have ever seen.

  • hahaha so i scroll down to read the comments and i see "taylor are you listening" hahahahaha

    yes katie i am lol

  • go listen to Out Tonight and Take Me or Leave Me now.

    SOO GOOD.

take me or leave me =Idina Menzel

    :D

  • HAAAAAAY!

    woah I forgot about this.

    hi.

  • hah Taylor are you listening?

  • i watched the performance in pitssburgh like a week ago it was wonderful!

  • I watched the musical yesterday and i couldn't help but cry at the ending.

  • Are you in Pittsburgh? I watched it last night live.

  • I tried to press play to replay it and accidentally gave it 1 Star!! It's definitely 5 stars... :-(

  • LOLL!!!!

  • The first time I heard this, I cried the ENTIRE time because it reminded me of my boyfriend. Killer song

  • All i can say is, what a difference 10 years can make! I can't listen to this song in the 10th anniversary, her voice, in my opinion, has got quite bad!!

  • @xcxhxoxcxkxyx if her voice sucks in this, i can only imagine wth it sounds like 10 yrs later

  • When this song was changed from Joanne and Maureen to Roger and Mimi, it made the entire musical different.... because this IS the song that explains all their feelings and the passion both characters share

  • this was originally for joanne and maureen??

  • Yea...... Check the 1994 NYTW (aka original Rent).... this included like.... COMPLETELY different songs like: Tango Maureen wasnt in it, instead it was called Female to Female sung by Joanne and Maureen, and the song Real estate, and Do a little business, and one song glory was actually called "Right Brain"...so alot changed from the workshop to the Broadway show....

  • My best friend moved recently and somehow this song makes me think of him. I miss him.

  • Roger and Mimi seem very confused one minute it's "I love you" and the next it's "I don't think your commiting very well to this relationship and your cheating on me with my landlord"

  • LOL with the cheating landlord, but the thing is that it's always in the back of his mind. Before the song it just spilt out to Mimi that he was upset about. And Mimi still loves Roger, but Roger never says he loves her until "Your Eyes".

  • I don't think it's that... I think it was mainly because of Mimi's heroin addiction. That was the reason they temporarily broke up even though they still loved each other. Remember what happened with April? I don't think Roger wanted to go through that again and was also worried about Mimi.
