What an odd couple, one of the most authentic musicians faced with one of the most superficial 'presenters'. Note Sutherland's use of all the industry standard cliches like 'Acts' and 'Number'. Nauseating. Thank goodness the song washes over well.
Actually, you're right. I love songs like "White Man" - even sing it sometimes. The fact that he goes a wee bit OTT for my taste is a price well worth paying. It's like a genius footballer with a hot temper - you can't remove it, it's all part of the genius!
ok im not an old English hippy but this is mad stuff - not light - can anybody tell me where i can get the lyrics for 'sophisticated beggar' there is one song called 'forever' that i want-all i can get is this other song called forever that he did but its a different song - what a genius
the first time i saw roy he played this song.he was playing in edinburgh and we hitched down to see him from aberdeen. took us all day but we still managed to get there 2 hours early......roy was about an hour late but well worth the wait.. cheers roy and all you rh fans
What year was that? Myself and a mate hitched from Ayrshire to Edinburgh to see him at some sort of uni hall in the old town and he was late. It was one of the five best gigs I've ever been to. It would have been mid eighties ( 85-87)
i dunnon dude. But if it was the same gig , mind on he asked for a pair of nail clippers from the crowd, and he said " you were the last guy i would expext to get some nail clippers from"

In general, my husband loves this guy- me I HATE him. My husband is only allowed to play him when I'm not at home. In fact whilst writing this, I had to turn the sound OFF!!
That's a shame :) But Roy is regarded as a flawed (and sometimes irritating) genius, even by many of his fans. I suggest you suspend your disbelief. Imagine he's a personal aquaintance - someone whose shortcomings you would tolerate in order to enjoy some of the passionate, beautiful songs he's written. Not every one likes it when he gets silly, or preachy, but that's a small price to pay; besides, his heart in in the right place. Best wishes, P.
What a great summation of Roy. I am a total Roy nut but understand the female perspective! My better half hates me constantly, and I mean constantly , playing Roy. But I always get her to mellow with Me and My Woman. Who alive could hate that song!
To "welovedonnie" - Roy Harper was always better known in England than "down under", but this was a clip I couldn't resist giving to my good friend smscmaster to upload. As Donnie says, Roy is a genius! I hope all the other Roy Harper fans on youtube get to see it.

I was lucky enough to have enjoyed his concerts in the 80s and 90s and even when pissed and high to me he is a god not just an idol.

The interview is all new to me. Tx for putting this on. I got into Roy around 1967-1976. A musician's musician maybe.
