@vipersaint65 As much as I love Little Richard, I wouldn't ever, EVER say that. Inappropriate isn't strong enough a word. Look at it this way – all the covers of his songs make it even more obvious that he was one of a kind.
No disrespect to Richard, sho' nuff no! But Elvis had the goods. His voice was authentic, he played guitar and piano well(obviously not as well as Richard, but that's ok). And even if we don't call him the king, he was still worthy of royalty as a musician.

@mcguire4u2 No, it wasn't Ike Turner. It was another artist, black artist - whose name I can't remember. Ike Turner did record with that artist, but he wasn't the first. The UK has catalogued Top 50 rock events, and that artist was #1 with "Rockett 88", alone. #15 was Sly & Family Stone, btw.
Who is that on saxophone? He is fantastic and really complements the incredible Little Richard. When you hear the founding fathers of Rock-n-Roll like Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, and a few other black men and women, you really hear the difference between their music and that of their imitators. No matter how good the imitation is, it just never is as good as the original w/its HIGH spirit and energy. Thank you for this post. Much love and thanks to Little Richard, Chuck Berry et al.

Elvis wasn't "really" a Rock&Roll star? My God... my friend, you are not well. Comparisons to other R&R stars drove him to drugs? In the 1970s Elvis was constantly at the top of the charts with Burnin' Love, Suspicious Minds, etc.. something that other 1950s R&R stars could only dream about; his Aloha From Hawaii (1973) was the first satellite TV broadcast all over the planet. He's by definition The King Of Rock&Roll, about which you obviously know nothing. Unbelievable! Lol!
@kidcalabria I am not your "friend". And you're clueless. Elvis was white, which is why he was at the top of the charts instead of the black performers who gave him his music. Certainly he had talent, but it really wasn't earth-shattering; he had looks and he brought black music into the white world. He would be the first to acknowledge it, and he did. Elvis was not allowed to be himself, he was controlled by that crook Col. Parker. Of course it had an effect on his drug use. IDIOT. LOL!!!
So, you took "friend" to be literal. & 2 whole boxes to spew abuse! Elvis' records from the 50s are classics, ditto the 1969 TV Special, etc. His talent WAS earth-shattering, in fact he changed the world. You go on about Black music, but R&R is by definition the union of White & Black music (we aren't talking about the Blues) & HE CREATED IT, which you don't even realize, proving that you're the clueless idiot, on top of being just a rude, ignorant, immature fuck, & I say Lol!
@universalradio Nobody RAN Elvis,,not even PARKER,,he was headstrong and only wanted to do it HIS WAY. Plus when in the service he got a taste of 'speed" over in Europe and it changed him.
@kidcalabria His movies were CRAAAAP!!!! They got worse and worse. He never had a chance, he was railroaded into garbage. Jailhouse rock wasn't bad, but this was NOT rock & roll. No wonder he morphed into a different type of artist alltogether, doing ballads.
For your information: King Creole and Loving You were decent movies too, apart from Jailhouse Rock. Creative dissatisfaction DID drive him to drugs, but not because he was "unauthentic", lol! Great artists like Little Richard, Chuck Berry, etc.. weren't on the charts in the '70s cause their records were mediocre, not because they were black; when they made good records they made the charts, while Elvis had hits with all kinds of songs, & you really don't know what you're saying
@kidcalabria Nobody DROVE Elvis to DRUGS. The GI's in EUROPE and other places were "fed" amphedimines to keep them alert and many of them overdid it and became addicts. I tried to use "spell check" but it's no working on here.
Yeah, you're right, but I think Elvis had been acquainted with amphetamines since he frequented Memphis' Blues joints as a teenager; he was a lot more streetwise than people think. At the time of his death the drugs found in his possession included also pharmaceutical opiates, benzos, etc.. as told by girlfriends, Priscilla, the "Memphis Mafia" guys, etc.. He was very creatively frustrated, no doubt about that. I recommend Peter Guralnick's biography Last Train To Memphis
@kidcalabria Most people know that UPPERS & then DOWNERS day after day week in and week out MESSES UP YOUR SEX LIFE. Most men can't 'get it up" under those conditions,,,one reason Priscilla left. I was 'in radio' for many years and can still name most of those pills. I never got addicted but knew many who did. But I saw first hand what they did to some guys. I DIDN'T GET A JOB once because I WASN'T A PILL HEAD (long story)
@universalradio Elvis once got one of his friends to go out and buy all the light bulbs in town, he then put them in his swimming pool and got drunk and shot them with his magnum. If thats not rock n roll then i don't know what is. Long live the King.
@universalradio Little Richard in interview said it because Elvis during the fifties sang rock and roll in radios and tv show , help to accepted and recognize black composers and singers.
Elvis was a real rock and roll star during the fifties. He was a real charismatic entertainer. It s really stupid to said he took drugs because he wasn t as talented as Richard. All pionneers of rock an roll took drugs and Little Richard too. The Rock and Roll is a mixte of lot of music .
Ok to all who is Upset with me over JLL is better then LR i still beleave that but i have respect for this man hes a great player i never said he could play i just dont think he compares to JLL Sorry for haveing an opinion that everyone doesnt like i forgot its the internet
Oh Jerry lee Lewis is talntless He still rocks your a dumb mother fucker and jerry lee lewis changed rock &roll and he is king oh ow Lr is so great all he does is just scream and no one is talentless and no is better then JLL
who dares to say that little richard sux nobody can match this little devil of rock n roll do u know how old is he while singing ? if u know then u ll shut da *uck up and clap for him
Hello Mr. Richard! I am LYNN, one of the daughters of singer HANK BALLLARD(MIDNIGHTERS). I was one missing at his funeral in California because my daughter had just had surgery. I was told that you were there, and i want to thank you for being a true friend of his. It will soon be 6 yrs. Feb. 2nd 2009. He is truly missed. Once again, THANK YOU!
Paul McCartney's biggest inspirations were Elvis and Little Richard. See Paul's version of Lucille on youtube. Early Beatle music was founded on Little Richard's music!
Richard Wayne Penniman, born December 5, 1932, the orginator, no, equal, non-pareil, number one, the first. Before there was anyone there was him, in the year 2012 this m.f. will be 80 years old. Jay-Z, Big Daddy kane, LLKoolJ, Kanye West, look at the master as it's done thank you.
"the originator, [...] the first. Before there was anyone there was him" And before him there was Billy Wright ("I really looked up to Billy Wright" -- RWP), Sandman Howard (his screamed uptempo "Willow Tree Blues" with lyrics about rocking and rolling is from 1950), Tommy Brown, Roy Brown, Piney Brown, Joe Brown, Gatemouth Brown, Jimmy Preston, Jackie Brenston, Wynonie Harris, Amos Milburn, Big Joe Turner, Fats Domino, Kansas City Jimmy, Rosetta Tharpe, Cleanhead Vinson, Albert Ammons...
No i cant have my own opinion and voice forgot its against the law I just feal that jerry blows him away no disrespect or anything why take me so serious if im such an idiot
No sorry as you can see by my post i made lot of typos i didnt mean to say he couldnt play he can for sure I just Think JLL can play so much better & puts on a much better show and the thing that sticks out to me is that he tours a lot more then Richard IDK why that is but Its something to say
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
jerry lee lewis ! this guy can not play the piano jerry lee lewis does not just play rock&roll and richard was before jerry lee jerry lee reinavated the style so little richard you cant carrry jerry jock not even tody not ever got that although i have to admit somewhat good song hes nothing compard to JLL
He is the best my friend! JL very good but you don't understand shit about music! How can u say hes cannot play piano????? Can you play like him?! IDIOT!!
Look how EVERYONE is having fun, no matter if it's Little Richard himself, the band members, the audience. I guess, even the director and cameramen were dancing around.
If he had been born white we would all be calling him the KING. If bo diddly, chuck berry and fats domino were white no one would give a damn about elvis presley. no one would even remember him. he'd be right along side sam perkins. good, but not great and certainly not the king. long live LITTLE RICHARD!!!!!!!!
i read a book on the complete Elvis record sessions. it's amazing book. Elvis was a great performer and producer. he was surrounded by extremely talented people. Elvis was friends with Jackie wilson and he enjoyed LR's music, but by 1957 LR was out of the business, he came back in the mid sixties but only sang his older music.
Elvis said himself "I dont sound like nobody" so I dont know where you got that from. Even when he sung little richard songs they were completely different.
Richard started recording before Elvis, and Elvis said Richard was the "greatest." Elvis loved records, and admired tons of singers from Arthur Crudup to Dean Martin to Clyde McPhatter to Hank Snow to Richard.
All I can say, shame on the beatles for stealing so many songs from him. Guess 2 of em got what they deserved

@kidcalabria Nobody DROVE Elvis to DRUGS. The GI's in EUROPE and other places were "fed" amphedimines to keep them alert and many of them overdid it and became addicts. I tried to use "spell check" but it's no working on here.

@THEMOJOMANsince1959

@universalradio Elvis was hella black that's why he got famous.
youngstunna79 11 months ago
@universalradio Little Richard in interview said it because Elvis during the fifties sang rock and roll in radios and tv show , help to accepted and recognize black composers and singers.
Elvis was a real rock and roll star during the fifties. He was a real charismatic entertainer. It s really stupid to said he took drugs because he wasn t as talented as Richard. All pionneers of rock an roll took drugs and Little Richard too. The Rock and Roll is a mixte of lot of music .

Hello Mr.

Jay-Z, Big Daddy kane, LLKoolJ, Kanye West, look at the master as it's done thank you.

i read a book on the complete Elvis record sessions. it's amazing book. Elvis was a great performer and producer. he was surrounded by extremely talented people. Elvis was friends with Jackie wilson and he enjoyed LR's music, but by 1957 LR was out of the business, he came back in the mid sixties but only sang his older music.

Richard started recording before Elvis, and Elvis said Richard was the "greatest." Elvis loved records, and admired tons of singers from Arthur Crudup to Dean Martin to Clyde McPhatter to Hank Snow to Richard.

That's because his voice isn't as savage as LR's. It's lame. We always thought he was a lame duck - as teenagers in the 60s, and it hasn't changed.
