took off from Miami intl @ night time, i got a perfect view of the skyline it was beautiful, wish i had a camera to take a picture of it, was the nicest thing ive seen.
@HoBBsIsScaRy stunning view isn't it as you take off at night. I've done it several times - as I used to be out there every few months. Only found out after I paid my final visit that you can do quite cheap helicopter flights to take photos from, and they take off from right near where the final shot in my time lapse! Would have done a dusk flight in a heartbeat if I knew. Maybe if I ever get over there again I will.
@mendebil correct. Because I'm shooting on stills I get a video that is over 4000pixels wide (HD is 1920 wide) and that allows me to zoom and pan in post. Much easier than carrying a dedicated rig around to do at the time of the shoot (although, results are much better with dedicated rig for panning).
Really love timelapse videos. That one is really, the transition between each photos really smooth. I have 3 questions btw : 1 > how many frames per minute did you shoot ? 2 > is it really necessary to use a D3 for such video. I mean, aren't you afraid to reduce substantially your camera life expectancy of such camera shooting so many frames "just for this ?" 3 > I noticed from another video you have a lx TZ7, how about shooting a video with it and increasing the frame rate ?
@1MriC1 Thanks for the kind words. As to your questions:
1) Various. Mostly 1 shot every 5 seconds.
2) The camera is just a tool to get the job done - why buy a camera and be scared to use it too much? It's like buying a car then not driving it too far to keep mileage down for the NEXT owner. Pointless. Enjoy your gear to the full, otherwise why buy it :)
3) Video sped up doesn't look as nice as stills, plus with stills I have higher res video for panning/zooming in post whilst keeping quality.
I wouldn't bother buying another camera just for timelapse. I have a full set of lenses to go with the D3, and the picture quality of the D3 is superb so I don't see the point in spending more money when I have everything I need already.
Thank Harry. I did use a 10 stop ND filter for the shot where the camera pulls out on the street scene during the day yes. It gives a really nice look to the shot I think. There is also a link in the video info section that will direct you to my blog article with more info about the video :)

@RichardPetersPhoto
Thank you for your answers !
1) All right, got it !
2) I pretty much agree. I've actually started using my D3 for that purpose as well but have qualms about it
3) That makes perfect sense !
Last question, how about using a high-end compact digital camera for it then ? Like the LX3. Would it make a big difference quality-wise in the end ?
Greetings from France

Love it. Good music choice. Did you use a neutral density filter for any of the day shots? Just curious
