I used to be little when I watched this. I used to replay rescures and cindrella for an entire day and get hypnotized by the endless magical beauty of this cartoon, I had no knowledge of English but now 16 years later I am in tears because now I know what the mystery is saying! The suprising part is that I knew it somehow but not how deep it was and how my life has became like the cartoon.Beautiful music that comes from the heart and is sang from the heart, language won't limit its beauty.
Ah.. Didn't think I'd say this for a while, since I'm only 14... But man... They don't make movies like they used to... D: I owned both of these on tape....
This opening scene used to enchant me even as a child. Penny's longing for help and this stunning artwork always mesmerized me. Something about that bottle. It still makes me feel rather strange.
I didn't know that Don Bluth (An American Tale/Land Before time) and Richard Rich (The Swan Princess) were involved in the animation with this movie! Makes sense with some of the beautiful scenery! =)
I so love this movie when I was a kid, loved those days. When I was a kid, I once had a dream from this movie where I was an orphaned kid and I was kidnapped by an old Nazi and he wanted to use me to get to a hidden treasure stashed back in the war and both Bernard and Miss Bianca came to rescue me, we learned a little bit about each other and eventually, the criminal was taken to jail, I got adopted by a loving family, lived a happy life and always remembered the rescuers. I miss those days.
@Madnes13 They lost Don Bluth (one of the writers) who made some of his own movies (search him on IMDB) which were (mostly) all wonderful and then he, sadly, drifted into obscurity :(
WOW, 1st time I've watched this in years! This opening sequence is so powerful... I vividly remember watching this on VHS in a beach house when I was very young... it was night time, I could hear waves crashing outside, I felt terrified yet awestruck... AMAZING!
I love and hate this movie. Love it because it's a true classic and one of my all-time favourites and hate it because it's so depressing. What Medusa does to Pennny is more than evil, it's twisted! She sends a little girl of about six down a dark hole and keeps her imprisoned on a boat! I always wanted to punch Medusa when I was little. How dare she treat poor little Penny like that!
this is the most impressive opening I ever saw! I watched the movie yesterday for the first time in years (i forgot everything about it) and when penny threw the bottle into the water and the voice said "who will rescrue me" I started to cry ... this is so awesomly well done and the guys at disney shall burn in hell for the shit they do nowadays... THIS is true art of filmmaking
I friggin love Disney and this amazingly beautiful song! Call me crazy, but (I am a metal/rock listening guy) i want this song to turn into a cover by Korn!!!!! OMG!!! I am such a nerd for music! <3
my friend is adopted and has the most horrible parents to come to this earth. They don't physically abuse her, but mentally. She was adopted when a baby, but knows they are still alive, and she has siblings. She's never met them before, but will later when she moves out. This is one of the disney movies she refuses to watch, cause it will make her wish she was with her real family. The movie always makes me think of her. I hope my friend has the same ending as Penny does. thx for uploading this.
I have a friend with abusive parents too, mostly psychological as well but to the degree of insanity... the poor girl is one of the most generous and kind people I know and her "divine" religious parents make her out to be bad just because she's not religious. strange how unfair the world can be sometimes, like the waves in this opening...
@aztecsword12 That's not entirely true. The last film some of the 'Nine Old Men' worked on, was 'The Fox and the Hound' (1981). Wolfgang Reitherman produced that movie, Larry Clemons was heaf of its story team, and Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston did much of the ealy development of the main characters (but they did no actual animation).

its strange how the film came together, it was compiled from a film that was already been made before the voiceover died :'(
