While you are waiting for the digger to arrive, a temporary measure would be to line the hole with EDPM, fit edging slabs and a refrigerator for survival rations and beer. You could then fill it with water and scantily-clad young ladies. When the apocalypse comes, you will have lots of lady-friends. Only those who have helped with the project can share the re-population of the world. (But as you are a nice sort of bloke, you could let the others in as well) but only if they ask nicely)
I understand where you're coming from. I'm using all local labor and the "good ole boy" system to find less expensive help. These guys are generally interested in the project and are doing it as a side hobby/job. You CAN'T really push these guys.Keep your head up and don't lose hope on this guy. Just when I start to lose hope on these guys they come through! Good luck and keep me posted on progress, bro!
Look for a used pool inner to put up on top of the structure before back fill. Also add in drain tile around the floor on the edge and use a simple sump pump. You will be glad you did.
Please buy a Jack hammer and use that at least to break up the soil. Seems like it's taking forever. At this rate the zombies will be snacking on your kids while your still digging the dam hole. 7 clips and that's all you got?
instead of wasting your time digging, go help the guy finish his pond. when he is done then he will dig for you, maybe in exchange for your helping him.
@NakedOptimist the truth is you are a troll , you are someone who has no video contributions to the site , yet your such an "Expert" on prepping and on what my needs and preps are designed for ?
@Patriotsurvival Way to dodge my questions. If its purpose is not for protecting against nuclear, biological or chemical threats what is the reason for going subterranean? Lock your crap in a storage building and it'll be just as safe and you won't have flooding/humidity issues. It'll be just as "secret."
@NakedOptimist as I have stated numerous times on my channel and in these project videos this Shelter will be primarily used as a Storm Shelter, also storage for Valuables, Canned goods , Safe house for hiding if there was ever Mass amounts of crime and Ultimately a man Cave
No Its not "state of the art" No the plans are not "fool proof" If I had $16,000
for a NBC Capable Filter , $40,000 Military Grade Underground Capsule ,
@NakedOptimist and Lol I have a Feeling No matter How Awesome and "state of the art" someones Plans / Bunker is there will always be some asshat out there will find "problems" with the design / plan
@NakedOptimist who ever said that this bunker was going to be nbc capable? In fact I have stated over and over on this channel and in these vids why the bunker doesn't need to be nuclear resistant .
Have you done any more work? Want to see more! Keep your chin up! Also, you can rent a mini excavater for around 150 a day. If you get it on a saturday morning it would be 2 days because they would not want in back till monday morning.
Seriously dude? You can rent a 15 ton hydraulic excavator for around $1200 for an entire week and dig a hole to China. You're really going to putz around there with a shovel for the rest of your days? Your buddy has to make a living, he's not going to show.
Also if it's so important to keep this shelter secret, wouldn't step 1 be: "Don't post this on Youtube?"
@NakedOptimist Ohhh Only $1200 dollars? well then what Have I been doing all this time lol If I only Knew it would be that small amount of Cash I could of saved myself a few Months ............................................................................. I hadn't thought about Paying someone to dig the hole <-----Sarcasm. Its funny how Videos of someone that likes to do hard work gets under some peoples skin .
I dont worry about Opsec online as much as I do offline.
@Patriotsurvival $1200 is an unattainable amount of money for you? Then what's the point of building an underground bunker when you don't have the money to outfit it to actually protect you from anything? "Earthbags" aren't going to protect you from a nuclear blast or filter chemical agents. If you don't have the money to purchase rations, are you going to be eating mud pies? I'm not trolling, you need to stop and think about your plan because it makes no sense.
Rent an excavator, absolut must! Time is way too short now, plan for the worst and hope for the best! If shit really does go down in december you'll be glad you finished your shelter!
PatriotSurvival GREAT WORK keep it up. Why don't you purchase a second hand rototiter to loosen the soil then fill a wheel barrow or something to make getting rid of the dirt much easier? There are simple cheap solutions.
@a10fjet Just like when we had a prefab 6 man Storm Shelter put in here on our property , word got around in the neighborhood and everyone wanted a tour .
Keeping this Shelter Secret Will Insure that our Food storage , Valuables , ect ect are
@jtee1894 I have considered covering the excavation site but the truth is the rainwater loosens the soil and makes digging this compacted clay easier
@river580 Picks are a decent tool when standing upright digging into a wall facing , but for me Digging a hole straight down with a pick is a no go , even if its just to loosen the soil . I have considered building a small Cabin over the bunker site with a hidden entrance under the floor ,
@CatalinD88 It clearly states in the title that this is "Digging a Underground Bunker Project: Part 7" clearly the title implies that the Bunker is not finished .
@Patriotsurvival Yeah But the hole would be dug in and Done in 2 days for 500 and then drop that shipping container into the Hole and cut a hatch in the top and" Wholey Moley Batman!" Good Video BTW Keep us in the Loop
Good, if you dig enough to have 4 meters of earth upon the shelter put some plastic protection between earth and the shelter this will protect you totally from any water.
Also, I bought some concrete plates and built mine like a mine with the pates everywhere and pillars for a big room I made.
You're talking about PAHS. It's very tricky to do. But can be done. There is a lot on the web disusing this issue. You may want to mound this and bury a bunker. Earth tubes may work for you to do some heating and cooling. Again just my 2 cents....LOL
I was thinking you might want to start thinking of water draining out around the bunker instead of digging the bunker out, hoping your buddy will come through. French drains and trenches down hill would be a start. Keep working hard, hope you have music when your working!
Just a thought. Is there some kind of hand digging tool that you could rent or buy that would make it go faster? I really am not a prepper but there are so many tools out that might your digging out the soil easier. Anyway good luck!!!
@aesops1048 Thanks for your comment , actually I have a Power auger that I use to Loosen up the soil from time to time , I have a video on my channel somewhere of me using it to dig

@DOCSAFETUBE I would say 99 percent of preppers , Survivalists dont have a true properly designed ,Stocked & working NBC shelter even if they think or say they have one. ..

@DOCSAFETUBE Im not saying that noone has a NBC shelter Their are "preppers" out there that have emm but Most "normal" people wouldnt be able to afford even the small components that make a Decent NBC Capable shelter
Nice update bro. I got two tips (might not be the best tips): Make sure you design your bunker with enough air circulation in order to keep it dry. It may be worse to have a sealed off room than a room with good circulation.
In my basement i got a dehumidifier since I live in an area with alot of rain. There are also some dehumidifiers requiring salts of some sorts not being electric. If you get alot of problems with water you might have to lay down propper drainage around your bunker.
you should really support the walls with packet tires like they do with the "earthships" google the word earthship.. it would be free and it is proven affective.
@parlusk1791 I still haven't ruled out the earth ship rammed earth tire method it is a good long term wall fortification , when compared to earth bags, the only problems with earthship method is Smell , the tires in large quantities can smell unpleasant .

Great job bro,... I know how craptacular it feels when your digging and you just know how much more dirt can be dug with heavy equipment, and how much faster. Thats exactly what im going through now,... thanks to your resolve im going to dig some more tommorow. Thanks Bro
I would worry about the water table in the spring time. Around here it's about 18" or less below the surface. There must be a contractor near by with a skidloader with tracks & rock fork for digging. My brother is a self employed excavator and sometimes has to rent a even larger/heavier trackhoe than his to get through 9' of frost. It's a pain. I have a tracked skidloader, wish i could help you out.
Go rent a small backhoe. You can also use a small garden tractor with a rear grade blade and the material out of the pit. Check the local want ads for a used tractor with a loader ,they can be had cheap and still be used for other odd work.
Roots do not grow in search of water. They follow the moisture so if your bunker is dry and the surrounding soil is dry then the the roots will not grow there. If the trees don't have significant root structure that are in contact with other moisture then the trees could die but you should never have root incursion into a dry bunker.
Regardless of what you do, concrete foundation on top of a waterproof membrane with block walls filled with concrete also coated and shielded are the only way to make this comfortable against moisture incursion. The area will continue to wick up moisture no matter how dry you keep it. I know from experience. Water will be drawn to a dry clay material from many feet away much like heat to cold transfer.

TRUST ME WHEN I SAY USE A PICK! TO DID DOWN, its probably the best handled digging tool you could get.
i thing it i a little easier to did when the dirt and clay is wet like in the morning.
you could use cinder block for your walls.
you could add thick gravel to the floor then all your flooring over the top so the water wont sit under your bunker.
you could buy a small shed, green shades of paint and a camouflage net or 2 for the roof, like a hut with a BIG hidden underground place.
