The ppl that coment on this video saying his voice sucks are fucking stupid, the sound quality on this video is bad n stop comparing him to billie joe, its a pretty nice musical n dont say it sucks when u havent even gone to see it!!!
alright people. stop saying he isn't "punk" enough. its a rock OPERA! that's why it sounds so stage got it? not everyone sounds like billie joe dammit!
Those of you hatin on John Gallagher Jr, go die in a hole. You try singing on a hot stage, dancing with the crazy lights trying to be perfect. I bet you can't sing as good as him! If you see the show live, you'll feel bad that you wrote those awful comments about him.
was this really needed? like i really like the album but did we need to see a broadway music of American Idiot? jeez where is king diamond and his broadway musicals?
@shebnemxx you don't even know what your talking about!!!! John Gallagher is amazing, you obviously wouldn't know a good singer if they were belting in your ear. this recording doesn't do justice to his amazing voice. stop hating true talent!
o my god i absolutely love john jr. he is the coolest broadway star there is! I want to be exactly like him! He's the best guy who can be able to add the rock in any musical he is casted into! If u dnt believe me watch Spring Awakening!
For all hating on John Gallagher Jr., not only is he not supposed to sound like Green Day but this also does not do justice to his voice. While this is a pretty high quality recording I'm sure anyone who saw it on stage you can say it doesn't do justice to his voice
Meaby i'm kinda wierd or stupit or something but... WHY IS JIMMY NOT JESUS OF SUBURBIA?! D: BUHUUUHUHU!!!! XD.. I hope the movie (is it comes xD) is exatctly like the cd, with Jimmy/st.Jimmy/jesus of suburbia (xD) and whatsername! xD.. Not any.. Johnny!.. Stupit Johnny! XD.. Omg sorry.. ._. I am not so... normal?.. Oo.. Yeah.. Sorry.. again! xD.. And.. Sorry if you can't read this.. I'm danish.. xD
"Johnny" aka jesus of suburbia is supposed to be a foil to St. Jimmy. Making him a separate character just makes his split personalities a little more prominent and makes you think about it more. it's supposed to be symbolic.
it bugs me when people say that this guy doesn't sound rock enough.. or like billie joe enough... i just want to say that hes not supposed to sound like billie joe... the guy that sings most of these songs is a character... the character is johnny or jesus of suburbia... he is not supposed to be portraying billie-joe. the character has his own voice and his own feelings when these songs are performed.
@GlorifyGod14 Your Right it isnt meant to sound lke billie joe but the guy should at least be able to sing and this guy cant, its all through his nose and ts horrible to listen to, i have seen bad vocal covers on youtube better than this guy and hes had to audition haha very dissapointed with the vocals
@AdamBSA it's correct theatre style singing. The reason why he sings through his nose and produces a nasally tone is because it takes pressure off of his vocal chords. If he were singing full voiced the entire performance every night, he would strain his voice and definitely do damage to his vocal chords. John Gallagher Jr. won a Tony award for his performance as Moritz Stiefel in Spring Awakening.. I'm pretty sure he knows what he's doing when it comes to singing.
@GlorifyGod14 I know! the rock people just watch our stuff and complain about how gay and non-rock it is. well fuck them, cause it just means more opportunities for us to see it
this was pretty good. but still... I don't know I feel like something is missing. The girl who sang at the end of the song was about to make me cry but she just didn't... hmm I really doubt if I should see this show
the musical sounded amazing... but this guys voice, it just wasnt angry enough... to me it just screams "look at me i've been groomed to perform in musicals since before i could talk" IT NEEDS ANGER!!
@DanBarnes91 John Gallagher Jr. played Moritz in Spring Awakening, which is a far from "look at me i've been groomed to perform in musicals since before i could talk." just fyi.
yeah in fact he says in interviews that he had absolutely no vocal training before taking on the role of Moritz.. his voice is one of the few that actually isn't super "broadway-sounding". which is why it is perfect for the role of johnny.
i really really miss billie joe's voice..but i only stand this cuz it was the dream of my love billie joe..and i know that its a totally hit..maybe it sounds weird as that but its obvious that its completly different in live and i wish i could see that amazing musical from that great album but im from mexico T.T but i still have the hope that they will be a really biiiiig hit and they will have a tour and will come here :D HAVE HOPE!!!!!
I saw the show at Berkeley Rep and I must say, thought the show was great, I'm not a fan of John Gallagher Jr. He overacted and it became almost unwatchable at times. However, Rebecca Naomi Jones as Whatsername stole the show.
this is a hard song, try to sing it if you don't believe it, still don't know how much sense a comparison with queen songs would make since they are 2 completely different voice types
Anyway... Billie Joe have a really poor vocal range, is a matter of fact. But, I have to agree with you... The singer is so bad that is making me cry, sings without feeling and out of tune. I cant believe that a play like this come to Broadway. I liked Green Day, but... I cant understand this.
very poor vocal range? you gotta be kidding, he has at least 2 octaves and a half in chest voice, and some of his songs are freaking hard, billie has very thick middle bass notes and can reach a high B4 screaming, judging by facts his range is G2-B4 and maybe can go even higher
Mercury had 3 octaves not 8, no human being has ever had 8 octaves, you sound pretty confused about voices and vocal ranges, again how can you compared billie with plant and the others you mentioned? and what suggests you that they sang harder songs? only because they were higher? so according to your logic baritones are crappy singers cause they sing low and don't pull off high hard rock soprano notes
Is a way to say dude, he had almost 4 octaves not 3, including falsete. He was, in the classic music classification, a light tenor or liric some says a baritono. 3 full octaves and a Mayor sixth.
And I not saying that a great singer is the one wich the longest vocal range, I just saying that 'Jesus Of Suburbia' is not hard to sing.
he had 3 octaves chest voice, and some more with falsetto so yes, he was a light tenor, his low notes didn't have so much of a body, he definitely sounded better in his upper register so he was not a baritone at all, he covered the light tenor and countertenor registers, if you don't find jesus of suburbia hard maybe you're a tenor, I'm a baritone and it's hard for me and feels highish to keep it for 10 minutes, I'd classify billie a baritenor or a lowish tenor, so he's indeed a long range
I sing in a green day tribute band, and play the guitar in a led zeppelin tribute band and I can assure you that robert plant is one of the most overrated singers of all time, he always sang his songs in a different way live and never pulled off the high notes you hear in the studio versions, and was always covered with zillions of effects, unlike him billie joe just uses basic effects with a mild setting, presley was a different voice of a different time singing a different genre
it's not a matter of liking green day or not, billie joe vocally improved a bunch during the american idiot era and he's now become a great professional singer very very hard to cover, he's impeccable, and really milks his 2 octaves and a half range, besides he also learned the screaming voice that he uses with the audience and in some of his songs as well, a voice which is not easy at all to do without damaging your cords, plant, mercury are not better singers, they sang in different registers
yeah this is a more accurate statement and I totally agree with you, but technically speaking billie is not inferior to plant nor mercury, believe me, I sing green day songs and yet I have trouble to cover all their songs cause I only have 2 octaves of vocal range, billie has more and the 21st century breakdown tour would be very heavy for a singer who lacks of technique, I saw the live and they are all fine professionals, so the final result is a matter of taste
@roflicopturz go to the musical i no its expensive i went there a week ago but its sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good i loved it its worth it...
