It IS illegal to OC in KC,KS. I"ve been arrested for it. The senate bill allows for any municipality to restrict open carry. So wherever it's NOT specifically restricted, it's allowed. It's your responsibility to know the law for where you are specifically.
Well done, I believe if you treat the officers with respect and answer just a few questions they may have an introduce your self they would be better at ease and not to mention a bonding relationship you could start out with an officer. I'm 21 and have my Carry conceal I however am nervous as well carrying open because I can't find all the necessary information to where i can and cannot carry, I wouldn't mind joining you for a walk 1 day and maybe we can get a group together. i left a comment but a think it got deleted some how. just lettering you know i saw this issue in the topeka paper and did some research about. keep waving the path for something we shouldn't have to fight for.
Thanks for the vid from Topeka. I'm curious about a few things. I understand you are trying to protect yourself from ignorance so do you think your packet is necessary to do a similar action in the State of Kansas? I would rather not have my ID available for the officers if I am not committing any crime.
This is awesome! What do you think would have happened if you didn't know one of those cops? Wish you could have filmed that part ... I do video production and would be interested in following you on your next 'adventure'. I will be sure to have the camera running.
hey!! you are full of knowledge, thanks for the open carry video, i recently purchased me a .40 cal smith and wesson sigma. I live in Kansas City, Kansas (Wyandotte County) do you know if im able to openly carry my fire-arm?
Good job! This will be great news for the guys back at the OpenCarry forums. I'm looking to begin open carrying in Lawrence, which hasn't had the open carry confusion that Topeka has. I'm sure I'll be a few local officers too.
Thank you for your service to this country and your exercise of our constitutional freedoms. A right unexercised is a right lost. Were you forced to show ID? Even though Kansas has a stop and identify statute, you were not breaking any laws so if this was not a "Terry stop", you may not have had to provide ID. Always ask "Am I being detained?" and keep a spare voice recorder running. Keep up the good work!

I was this nervous when I first started carrying :)
Now I carry everyday in California.
Get the new iPod Nano, it can record video for hours, so just set it and let it run. Edit the long video down when you get home.
Keep it up!

Very nicely done. My first time "open carrying" was leaving your office. I think for now I will stick to concealed. Semper Fi.

Dont want to issue law abiding citizens a CCW? Then the open carry movement will grow.
