Yes, nowadays, the show seems very cheesy. But in 1968, when this show came out, it was a great series, and allowed many comedy pilots to be shown to see if they could grow into their own series. You must remember, this show gave birth to the legendary "Happy Days" sitcom.
Big names here - LAS apparently had higher profile actors during the first couple of years. I wonder if this episode was aired during sweeps if they even had that during those days (when ABC was a distant third I believe). In the intro did the actors always appear in alphabetical order?
Does anyone have access to the original Seasons 2-4 theme song (NOT the Cowsills version), with the single screaming firework exploding (visually only) after "Looove, love" and then the short skit, followed by the main theme, which, after the "LAS" logo, was followed by "Tonight Starring"? ("Starring" was shoved in there for the daytime reruns.) Would really love to see this restored version.
posting this as 'Season 1 Episode 19 DVD Intro' you ought to make it clear that this was camcordered off a tv screen! Otherwise some might think this is the (bad) quality that these episodes actually exist.
@JWLJN That crossed my mind before I posted... Basically you're right. But there are such folks out there that aren't as hip and literate on this modern day flying machine as you and I ...and some might not be paying much attention.
@ekocentric I'm glad you like the Cowsills...I do too. This video version is pretty poor for audio. The collecter's CD version are so much better. The Cowsills are still performing but still smaller as a group due to time with deaths. I'll be seeing them next week (July 19) in NYC at B.B.Kings.......and they always include 'Love American Style'. The're so talented and very good live.
@ziggycat999 Please don't tell me that you are going to the BBKings in Studio City? I used to live right around the corner from Barham and Cahuenga...if that's where you are going.
P.S. Please let me know how it turned out. I was lucky enough to have seen the Beatles at the Hollywood bowl in '64, the Beach boys and the Maharishi in the late '60's because my uncle couldn't get any of the with him
@dimpledick3inch bob Denver reportedly engaged in anal sex with Robert Reed and told him his secret fantasy would be to have all male Brady Bunch orgy.
i for one, even though it may be a negative thought, will NOT support companies that break seasons into "Volumes" just so they can make money off of the baby boomers. 25.99 is too much for twelve episodes. And in their defense, they have to make money to justify future releases, but the reason they don't get the correct response is because we think they're trying to cheat us so we don't buy. ridiculous cycle but they could stop it by eliminating the Volume concept
I bet the episode with Paul Lynde has to be the funniest ever. He was so talented and gifted and am so sad he is gone. I would like to get this on DVD. Thanks for the wonderful post and memories.
@frankd1965 You have got to be kidding? I'm glad that actors are not neccessarily the same people that they appear to be, because if they were these three would have been under lock and key in some mental assylum..God the '60's was great!! Lol
@ekocentric Come on??? I see people like Gilligan, Goober and Batman everyday. In fact one of my neighbors was just doing his 'Cary Grant imitation' just last week. Now I must rush off to the batpoles and get ready to battle that arch fiend, the Riddler.
@ekocentric Ha ha....Actually, George Lindsey is my girlfriend's ex-husband's cousin or some kind of relation like that. I asked her if doing Cary Grant imitations was a family tradition with them. Also, I guess I should have told her she should change her name from Rachel to Judy. It's more conducive to Cary Grant imitations.........LOL : )
@ridgerunner721601 I had forgotten all about ol' George. I remember his terrible "Judy, Judy, Judy" imitation on the Andy Griffith show....I don't know whose character was the stupidest..George Lindsay (as Goober) or Jim Nabors (Gomer).
They were even on the dull normal level. Love..that's okay I liked them anyway. Maybe it was because I had not reached the "double digits."
@ekocentric Ha ha....I'll tell you one thing though. They put these so called comics nowadays to shame. They don't even have good sitcoms anymore. What passes for sitcoms now are just few one liners usually with no plot or point to the story. And as much nasty language as they can get away with on the censors. I don't know if the writers in Hollywood have gotten lazy or just aren't interested or what, but since the early 90's things have really gone down on TV.
@StaunchComic LOL...That's true. I forgot about Uncle Arthur. I'd like to see that episode. Oh, by the way I always wondered which side of Samantha's family Uncle Arthur was on. Was he Endora's brother? Or was he her father's brother? I remember Arthur and Endora hated each other though....ha ha. But even Darren kind of liked Uncle Arthur, although he'd never admit he cared about any witch or warlock other than Samantha.
Sept 14th is Joey's Birthday. Happy Birthday Joey from Paul. Sorry I don't have a new video to give you on your birthday.

Unfortunately, only Season 1 has been released on DVD so far.
If you want to see more, please enter "Love American Style Petition" into google so you can visit the petition site & add your name!
Let CBS/Paramount know you want to see the rest of the series released on DVD (uncut & with all original music) and maybe it will happen. ;-)

Paul Lynde was great, and he appeared on LAS twice that I know of (perhaps more, not sure).
There's a really good video clip of Paul Lynde being interviewed by Johnny Carson. You might want to check that out.

It's good to see former University of North Alabama football player, George Lindsey as a young man.

I prefer the music to the later episodes, this one is not quite as bouncy!

This is also the episode in which Paul Lynde plays an executive who can't focus at work because he's distracted by Carol Wayne and her beauty. Funny.
