I look at it like this, and I'm a trucker too. Fireman might get burnt, police might get shot, and a driver might crash! It comes with the job.. Love it or hate it.
Drivin truck is without a doubt the best damn job I've been truckin for 3 years and love it I have seen lots of crazy shit people do when they want around a semi I have also witnessed people not makin it very sad the trucks I drive have a gross weight of 129,000 pounds now that's doubles with 11 axels we won't swerve cause it won't do any good were goin though you or over you and I'm proud to say that I have never had to avoid a fellow trucker so thanx to those who drive safe everyday
An elite trucker use to be the guy who could make a run from New York to Califonia on three hours sleep and a day and a half before everyone else. Today an elite trucker is the guy who who puts safty first, keeps a level head and is ever vigalant. Why cant cars have the same standards?
i have the utmost respect for all truck drivers, my uncle drives a big rig. whenever i see a truck on the road, i try to gauge if its worth passing the truck with how far it is from my destination plus how much traffic is coming on the left lane. i NEVER drive on the right hand side of a truck, thats suicide! whenever i pass a truck, i ALWAYS pass where the truck can see me. its not that hard to give respect to truck drivers, those of you that blame everything on truckers :)

I found it sad. I was a otr driver for 5 years and I found other truckers to be the most courtiest drivers. In Ontario there is pressure on to put speed limiters on trucks when 95% of all accidents are with cars!! That commenter was right. If you have it in your house it came by a truck.
I am a wife to a truck driver he is gone alot of the time. For fourteen years he was accident free until the day a car pulled out in front of him. Please everyone on the road pay attention its partly up to you on whether or not my husband and my childs father comes home safe.

Nex time you get mad at a truck in your way just remember anything and everything you use in your day to day lives was shiped on a truck.we owe these truckers a huge dept of gratitude for the time spent away from family, and familys broken up as a result. Ive been a trucker now for quite a few years now, and ive seen some pretty horrific accidents since i been driving, but the worse drivers are people who have no respect for us truck drivers at all cutting in front of us and darting in an out really playing with our lives and there own to, most of the time they reckon ah bloody truck drivers its not our fault we are doing the right thing its them pea brains who are in the wrong, not us respect us and we will do the same. yupper...i take my sweet lovin time to get there. i don't care if it's JIT. better to be late than never. i always try to give myself more than enough time to get somewhere, and am not afraind to park it if the weather gets bad. i have no problem with safety at the expense of my ontime rating. i'll get there when i get there. i try to be an hour early, but sometimes circumstances don't permit it...oh well, at least i'll live to get another load, and my MIS (most important stop-home)

This could of been me at any time in the past 25 years ,here in the U.K. if the car test had input to how truckers have to operate maybe there would be less of this for example if we right hand hand lane with indicator on to turn left WE NEED THAT SPACE TO GET ROUND .44 ton does NOT mean it will hold road ,put brake on just tiny more than needed THE WHOLE LOT WILL GO OVER .Ignorance of these things is NOT bliss !!! @btoclub I am not going to be disrespectful or cut myself down to your level but I will tell you that most truckers carry their dogs or animal's cause out on the road when you get to Maybe come home once in a month if your lucky it gets lonely and makes you really miss your families. having your pet with you is a good companion and keeps you in good spirits to make the long drive everyday...You need to go back to school and grow up with your childish attitude.
I've been done with it for 4 years now, but the worst wreck i ever saw was on Rt 65 just north of Lincoln Ca. @ 2005. 2 rigs went head on, an empty flatbed & a loaded log truck. The logs broke loose & punched the driver through the cab into the other one where that driver burned to death.I started lookin for a way out after that. I am now a student at Columbia Univ. in NYC on the GI bill.
A while back, one trucker that I knew was in a fatal wreck. It wasn't him that was killed, it was the woman driving home early in the morning after a night spent partying and drove into his path. But, it was almost like 2 people died that day. He was devastated, had tried to keep her alive after the accident, even talked to her as she was dying trapped in her car. It's been a year, and he still can't get behind the wheel.

Professional Drivers, AKA The Trucker. I am an In City P&D driver. Login about 100mi a day. Ten years of rush hours and nary a nick. We are the ones that help get you home alive. If you're moving faster then 8mph, stop your complaining. Even an Olympiad can only do that for a hour or so, and I like air conditioners.
I have been driving big trucks for nearly 25 years. My advice to anyone behind the wheel, especially to the rookies (which can apply to all vehicles of all shapes and sizes) is not to be afraid of it however treat it with respect. For when the day comes when you feel you can make it do what ever you want it to is when it will be your demise because it will either kill you or kill someone else. I have seen it happen so many times.
one more thing to add what most ppl dont think about is weather or not that trucker has his family in the truck with them, me and my hubby driver together so plz. think about that other person in the trucks with them, i do have a family that i love to see when goin home, love both my kids
theres more four wheelers that crash dipshit and yes im aware that there are moe of them on the road but im sure even the average short haul driver will make more miles in a year than you will in a life time

i was just watching a thing about truck drivin on t.v and they said 90% of it is the cars fault the trucker would give his life to miiss the car that pulled out infront of him people in ther cars dont relise how hard it is to stop 80,000lbs+my uncle is a truck driver and i was with him,it was 4 in the morning and a car went to pass a semi on a two way road woods on bothsides we had to go off road for that car,we hit 4 tress tore his truck all up and the trailer and the car just kept going

As a former trucker, I couldn't deal with all you east coast 4 wheelers, I'll tell you, you little fucks, zipping around trucks, like we can accelerate, stop or corner like a car, open your fucking eyes. it takes less than the blink of the eye to find out your in trouble in a rig what matters most is your speed and your weight = braking distance there is also a thing called weight transfer you can transfer the weight in a straight line just by stering to the right b4 left curve it sets the suspention kineticly or evenly while entering the curve it also could prevent jk in short stopping distance learned it hostling for railroad and it saved my ass once hauling a load of steel coils
You know, my first time on the road I nearly shat my pants when a truck passed by me while driving... I spoke to some other people about it and most people just go on ranting that truckers are just big bullies on the road and I looked at them like wtf? I spoke to one of my uncles who delivers oil with his trucking company and I asked him does he consider himself a bully on the road trying to scare other people.. and he told me he's more scared himself forget the people..... now I respect them..

When I worked at R&L Carriers...we had a driver that had a heart attach while driving and flipped a truck on its side....they determined he was dead prior to crash as when they pulled his body from the wreckage, there was no blood. I spent about 8 hours rummaging through the remains of the freight in the trailer by hand since the trailer wasn't safe to drive forklifts into.
I saw an accident were an 18-wheeler was standing on it's tail in and the cab was in the air and another one was split completely in half. It was horrible!
man these things give me chills... reminds me of the phone call me and my dad got saying my mom rolled her semi... we were heading to Sheridan, WY and my mom was 2 hours behind us going the same way when her trailer brakes locked up sending her into a jack knife and when the trailer hit some train tracks it flipped the rig.. she survived the crash but still a call you don't want to get. Keep it safe truckers and R.I.P. to all those who never got to make it back to the yard.
I also agree that there are some bad drivers out there. They think because they are bigger that they own the road. My friend was pushed of the road. She was lucky. Her truck is finished.For those drivers I can only say" What if it was your family in the car in front of you?" Just slow down, sleep as best as you can and respect everyone. Don't forget that they work hard to bring YOU everyday that you need and the things that you need for fun like a sea-doo. They don't have time for fun because they are working none stop. My husband is gone a month at a time. He sees bad things out there and he had a close call last month. A car came out of a parking lot and cut in front of him. @truckermmjl thank you for supporting us ( though you kind of got to because your husband drives haha).. I had a car towing another car run a red light and pulled right out in front of me.. I was hauling liquids in a tank so stopping in time wasn't an option. luckily traffic wasn't real heavy that day. I laid on the horn hit the brakes and eased my truck to the other lane just about taking out the car she was towing.
They are under pressure from employers, buyers, and people on the roads. Why is it that they need an AZ license to drive but anyone in Canada can drive a huge camper with a car attached at the back and a boat attached behind the car? +1 Most accidents are caused by too much speed and not paying enough attention to traffic, and that includes tailgating. If you cant stop, pull back. and don't blame the bosses schedule, its your life and your licence not theirs.
As a 12 yr professional, I see some poor driving by todays truckers. Most of these could've probably been avoided by slowing down and not following so closely. And to you assholes practically pushing 4 wheelers down the road,well...maybe you'll make the 6 o clock news.

i just lost my husband this way- he was a truck driver and someone cut him off in Oakland the car pulled in front of him and then hit their brakes- he only had time to swerve and then hit several eucaluptus trees before jackknifing at the last one- he was carrying a full load of scrap metal. He was killed instantly. The car never even slowed down... have a nice day driver 3-18-11....
@1wrytr I'm glad ohio and some states have smartened up and made it illegal for cutting off 18 wheelers and I hope all states in this country will have that law someday. And hopefully they advertise commercials about those laws. I think all truckers out there should sit down with the city halls and government buildings and discuss about those dumbass drivers who are responsible for causing these deaths of truckers. I'm very sorry for your loss.

People just need to learn to respect truck drivers My father was a truck driver for over 18 yrs my cousin is a truck driver. Before my Dad Drove truck he was a tow truck driver and the craziest Tow he ever had was a car that slammed 120 miles an hour into the back of a moving truck on purpose. He spent all night talking the semi Driver reasurring him that if it wasnt his truck it would have been someone else's.
My dad drove trucks big Riggs he hates being cut off never crashed but says it can happen so keep you eye on the road it might just save you life if you get tied stop he seen people die out there because the rolled it now I am going in to trucking no chases don't care about the load not wroth my life
my dad has driven an 18 wheeler for about 15 years and i know a lot of kids at my school who recently got their licenses who don't know anything about driving with big trucks around and its risky to be a truckdriver
I love big riggers, its all about distribution. Whatever it us that you need or so desire, I guarantee it was delivered by a big rigger. Just be safe whether you're in a 4 Wheeler or 18... blessings to everyone on the road. :-)
so many of these fatal crashes are caused by 4 wheelers cutting off the big rigs. if the american public would realize a big rig can't "stomp on the brakes" like a car. Cut off a truck? That's almost 80K that's not going to be able to stop and WILL roll right over you. Yeh, there ARE bad truckers out there, but MOST are decent. @samantha34ize Who told you the lie that trucks aren't allowed to have unions? I'm pretty sure the drivers at YRC (Yellow and Roadway) would like to have a word with you about their Teamster cards. UPS drivers would probably have a thing or two to say as well.

As truker my self people dont even know how dangerous this job is we are responsible for freight ,more than 200,000 on equipment plus all the lives that sorround us everyday on the road believe it or not we make more decision than any other job about 10000,wich each need to be accurate or will cost some live including ours.

i have the utmost respect for all truck drivers, my uncle drives a big rig. whenever i see a truck on the road, i try to gauge if its worth passing the truck with how far it is from my destination plus how much traffic is coming on the left lane. i NEVER drive on the right hand side of a truck, thats suicide! whenever i pass a truck, i ALWAYS pass where the truck can see me. its not that hard to give respect to truck drivers, those of you that blame everything on truckers :)

I found it sad. I was a otr driver for 5 years and I found other truckers to be the most courtiest drivers. In Ontario there is pressure on to put speed limiters on trucks when 95% of all accidents are with cars!! That commenter was right. If you have it in your house it came by a truck.

I've been done with it for 4 years now, but the worst wreck i ever saw was on Rt 65 just north of Lincoln Ca. @ 2005. 2 rigs went head on, an empty flatbed & a loaded log truck. The logs broke loose & punched the driver through the cab into the other one where that driver burned to death.I started lookin for a way out after that. I am now a student at Columbia Univ. in NYC on the GI bill.

A while back, one trucker that I knew was in a fatal wreck. It wasn't him that was killed, it was the woman driving home early in the morning after a night spent partying and drove into his path. But, it was almost like 2 people died that day. He was devastated, had tried to keep her alive after the accident, even talked to her as she was dying trapped in her car. It's been a year, and he still can't get behind the wheel.

My advice to anyone behind the wheel, especially to the rookies (which can apply to all vehicles of all shapes and sizes) is not to be afraid of it however treat it with respect. It's not an easy job, but I drive Highway 70 between St. Louis and Kansas City frequently... a percentage of truckers act like morons in that stretch for some reason... I guess because it's a straight line, more or less. I dunno. Not all, some are quite well behaved... but the ones that act like morons stick in your memory... When I worked at R&L Carriers...we had a driver that had a heart attach while driving and flipped a truck on its side....they determined he was dead prior to crash as when they pulled his body from the wreckage, there was no blood. I spent about 8 hours rummaging through the remains of the freight in the trailer by hand since the trailer wasn't safe to drive forklifts into.

Her truck is finished.For those drivers I can only say" What if it was your family in the car in front of you?" Just slow down, sleep as best as you can and respect everyone. Don't forget that they work hard to bring YOU everyday that you need and the things that you need for fun like a sea-doo. They don't have time for fun because they are working none stop. My husband is gone a month at a time. He sees bad things out there and he had a close call last month. A car came out of a parking lot and cut in front of him. He a a slip second to choose to crush the car are kill himself by taking the ditch. He was able to safe the people in the car and himself. Part 3

@truckermmjl thank you for supporting us ( though you kind of got to because your husband drives haha).. I had a car towing another car run a red light and pulled right out in front of me.. I was hauling liquids in a tank so stopping in time wasn't an option. luckily traffic wasn't real heavy that day. I laid on the horn hit the brakes and eased my truck to the other lane just about taking out the car she was towing.

They are under pressure from employers, buyers, and people on the roads. Why is it that they need an AZ license to drive but anyone in Canada can drive a huge camper with a car attached at the back and a boat attached behind the car? People are too quick to blame them and don't look at the big picture. Give them space and let them WORK. They are not on a joy ride. Part 2

+1 Most accidents are caused by too much speed and not paying enough attention to traffic, and that includes tailgating. If you cant stop, pull back. and don't blame the bosses schedule, its your life and your licence not theirs.

As a 12 yr professional, I see some poor driving by todays truckers. Most of these could've probably been avoided by slowing down and not following so closely. And to you assholes practically pushing 4 wheelers down the road,well...maybe you'll make the 6 o clock news.

i just lost my husband this way- he was a truck driver and someone cut him off in Oakland the car pulled in front of him and then hit their brakes- he only had time to swerve and then hit several eucaluptus trees before jackknifing at the last one- he was carrying a full load of scrap metal. He was killed instantly. The car never even slowed down... have a nice day driver 3-18-11....

@1wrytr I'm glad ohio and some states have smartened up and made it illegal for cutting off 18 wheelers and I hope all states in this country will have that law someday. And hopefully they advertise commercials about those laws. I think all truckers out there should sit down with the city halls and government buildings and discuss about those dumbass drivers who are responsible for causing these deaths of truckers. I'm very sorry for your loss.

People just need to learn to respect truck drivers My father was a truck driver for over 18 yrs my cousin is a truck driver. Before my Dad Drove truck he was a tow truck driver and the craziest Tow he ever had was a car that slammed 120 miles an hour into the back of a moving truck on purpose. He spent all night talking the semi Driver reasurring him that if it wasnt his truck it would have been someone else's.

My dad drove trucks big Riggs he hates being cut off never crashed but says it can happen so keep you eye on the road it might just save you life if you get tied stop he seen people die out there because the rolled it now I am going in to trucking no chases don't care about the load not wroth my life

my dad has driven an 18 wheeler for about 15 years and i know a lot of kids at my school who recently got their licenses who don't know anything about driving with big trucks around and its risky to be a truckdriver

I love big riggers, its all about distribution. Whatever it us that you need or so desire, I guarantee it was delivered by a big rigger. Just be safe whether you're in a 4 Wheeler or 18... blessings to everyone on the road. :-)

so many of these fatal crashes are caused by 4 wheelers cutting off the big rigs. if the american public would realize a big rig can't "stomp on the brakes" like a car. Cut off a truck? That's almost 80K that's not going to be able to stop and WILL roll right over you. Yeh, there ARE bad truckers out there, but MOST are decent. Please show the big rig drivers some courtesy and give us some room! Thanks.

@samantha34ize Who told you the lie that trucks aren't allowed to have unions? I'm pretty sure the drivers at YRC (Yellow and Roadway) would like to have a word with you about their Teamster cards. UPS drivers would probably have a thing or two to say as well.
Past that, you weren't making 200 a month. If you were, it was because of you. I make 3800+ gross every month and I'm home every night. Not sure what you're bitching about.

currently in high school but as soon as im out im hitting the roads. my dad was a trucker all my life, so im alwas around trucks, going on trips with him every time i can. Everyone tells me i should do other things in life. i know theres risks and dangers but, its just in my blood...
