  • i like the old folks getting into it....

  • Best I've ever heard! and I've heard alot of solo players.

  • lovely playing man how can 4 people give this the thumbs down i surely cant.great playing.

  • Matt, I love the way you play this! I have a recording of Pete Johnson playing this, and on this vinyl LP it's title is "Climbin and Screamin". To my ear he is using a different LH pattern than the one you are using in this video (I don't hear him playing any Eflats at all in the C position. Are you conciously using a different pattern or do you hear it the way you play it? In either case, yours sounds great and I wouldn't change a thing!

  • Wow.... don't even know where to start. I love Turner and Johnson, love the piece, and... you bring it greatness. No joke, man.

  • Old farts!!! It's so sad how these old dudes can't even bop they headz to such an amazzing piano playa from they era... Kinda sux... I know if I was there i'd be respecting this piano playa like MAD ;)

  • look at the kids at 3:10 lmfao

  • Matt, don´t you think BW is far more blues sub genre than a jazz sub-genre?

  • Outstanding playing. Your audience may not have been able to jump and move with the music, but I think they know an excellent performance when they see one. Thanks for sharing.

P.S. I do hope to be old one day; It's better than the alternative.

  • The piano's not quite as excellent as your playing!

  • skillz

  • Great playing man !

Shame the high notes are well flat - but I still get the idea !

    Funky piano !!

  • honey, you so beautiful but you got to die someday

honey, you so beautiful you got to die someday

honey, give me little lovin' just before you pass away.......... greetings from Poland

  • Good lord you can play! I guess you really are the boogiewoogie kid. wrong crowd though brah... lol You might look out of place but if you came to my rec center and played like that there wouldn't be anyone sitting down :)

  • I noticed at about 2:05 your left hand completely took over as you played chords with your right hand. Then you came back in with that contrapuntal swing employing both hands. Rockin'

  • all that and nobody even moves... its not Live here and im having trouble sitting still at that :p anyway, is there any way to get notes for boogie kind of music? i tried searching everywhere here in holland but it seems you have to simply "know" this music rather then have a way to start learning it... care to help me out?

  • Thank you Silver and thanks for watching!

  • WONDERFUL!!!

could you tell me where can i find the partition of this song? thks

  • Thank you - I learned it by ear though - Matt

  • When I get sick & tired of playing guitar and guitar players in general, the first thing I do is relax with some good boogie piano......fabulous playing.....

  • I play 12 string guitar - but this is one of my favourite YouTube clips!

    Fantastic playing ******

  • Thank You!

  • IMO boogie is the zenith of the many forms of jazz.

    thanx for keeping it alive!

  • Aye, and he's playing it just right. Just the right pace (speed). Fucking fantastic. And that says alot of his ability as well. This young man is truly FUCKING brilliant. Sorry for my swearing, it's just the Norwegian way. GO SON!

  • Really great performance. Congrats!!!!!!

Lotta silly ppl just sitting and looking outta their heads :(...

  • I'm 16 and my name's Pete Johnson, although i am in no way related to the great man, I do like to play the boogie and fully appreciate this form of music.

Keep them keys rolling, your doing a great job!

  • Good lad, thumbs up

  • One of the best songs ever written, you do it justice son. Fucking hell, great stuff. Keep rockin'

  • Thanks for this!

  • I'm 19 years old, and I appreciate the good music, like this! Amazing!

  • Thank you!

  • I think old(er) people have greater appreciation for GOOD music. Try listening to what younger people listen to. Oldsters may not move around as much (anymore), but they know good stuff when they hear it.

    / get off my lawn!

  • Sorry i missed this gig, but probably

would have been denied entry for being underage.

Would love to have been the camerman hiding in the shrubbery...

    Great clip, awsome BoogieWoogie!!!

  • Thank you!

  • This is as good as it gets. Love the relentless left hand.... complimented beautifully with cheeky melodic riffs from the right. A real Boogie Woogie Bonanza !

  • Thank you! - Matt

  • Staggering. A brilliant note perfect rendition of the original. You should be playing in Carnegie Hall !

  • Just brilliant,beyond words!!!

  • dead right!! what a gift

  • thank you for this - all the best - Matt Ball

  • Boogie woogie is the basis of everything!! It was rock n' roll 30years before the name was termed.

A a superb performance here!! and I most like that it has all the no nonsense pounding rhythm of the original without the smarmy flourishes that tend to creep in to the music today..

    GREAT STUFF!! Good Luck!!!

  • So nice to hear/see someone who loves what they're playing play it so well. This is inspirational and, of course, you're very gifted.

  • Matthew, I'm a pianist and need to ask you a question. How can I contact you? I tried leaving a question on your Pinetop's Boogie posting but I was told that the message was "pending approval", so I don't know if you got it. Thanks. I digging the ---- out of your playing!

  • You are awesome. I've spent a lifetime trying to figure out what Pete Johnson does and the nearest I get is this take (search Youtube for roll 'em pete). Still for a self-learner I'm happy. Colm

  • That was FUN! - you really got them movin'!
