Battle of the Bulge movie IIRC - pretty pathetic from a historic point of view - crappy equipment and so on. But this scene the Peiper character does catch the essence of the SS warrior cult.
Sadly, by this point in the war, the real Peiper remained an aggressive warrior but I think he may have been near hysteria as many of them were - knowing that it was over.

Battle of the Bulge movie IIRC - pretty pathetic from a historic point of view - crappy equipment and so on. But this scene the Peiper character does catch the essence of the SS warrior cult.
Sadly, by this point in the war, the real Peiper remained an aggressive warrior but I think he may have been near hysteria as many of them were - knowing that it was over.

Only young soldiers showing Espirit d'Corps! Any commander, as myself, would be proud of them. A magnificient display of elan. I ain't a Nazi - over. But any military man would appreciate the spirit of this moment. The Panzer Corps was formidable, and such dedication is admirable. Ask anyone, Russian, British, or American - a tough bunch to come up against. No wonder Patton wanted to use the 1st Panzer Corps as a spearhead against the Soviets!

Perhaps I am mistaken about the exact unit designation, but Patton did indeed consider using German units to attack the Soviets, which he was so right in thinking. They were as beat as the Germans - we could've rolled them back to the Urals, at least. But we had no guts for it after the hard fight with the Germans.
