During his ERA, the ideaologies of Republicans and Democrats switched. The South became Republicans. Therefore, the Republican TR held more similar beliefs as today's Democrats.
I have concerns with far left-wingers who laud Roosevelt as some liberal hero. Roosevelt was a liberal insofar as he was trying to clamp down on the totally uncontrolled laissez-faire economy of the Progressive Era. The giant monopolies and conglomerate trusts were allowed to do virtually anything they wanted in the name of profit (look at The Jungle) and were creating horrible gaps between the social classes. TR is not a Wilson or Obama style liberal that rewards fiscal irresponsibility.
@pjmgame Ah yes, destroying food hungry people needed, displacing jobs in the private sector, buying votes, and massive spending were so wonderful.......oh, and lets not forget court packing! FDR was the second closest thing the U.S. ever had to a dictator. The New Deal didn't do anything; it was the return to a free market just after WW2 that got this economy back on its feet. May I ask what research you've done? Just wondering.
@RoosterCogburn1008 Your nuts. FDR put food on the table. He created social programs that helped the middle class. sk your parents and see how they feel about SS and medicare. As for research I googled him. Only economists hate FDR. FDR is on the dime. HE IS FOREVER LOVED AND YOU CAN'T RUIN HIS LEGACY!!!!
@pjmgame FDR destroyed much needed food while people were starving. That's a fact, look it up. And are you talking about the corrupt programs that are currently bankrupting the country? Ya, thanks. Economists huh? Gee, if only they knew something about the economy....wait a minute! And legacy of what? Attempting to take full control of the government through court packing and multiple terms, not helping the Jews in the Holocaust, cutting the military during the 30s, and making the economy worse?
@RoosterCogburn1008 That's not a fact: FACT: FDR ENDED THE DEPRESSION!!! He did have flaws yes. Your right about his treatment to jews and lets not forget what he ded to japense americans. YES, THAT'S TRUE!! But I have read the history books, watched his bio and the fact is is that he ended the depression.
@pjmgame That's not a fact!!!!!! That's not even an opinion, its just a lie!!!!! And what I said is fact. During the depression, paid farmers to slaughter 6 million pigs and destroy 10 million acres of cotton to keep the prices high; they were just destroyed, and never taken to market or sold. All of this when so many Americans were starving and homeless!!!!
@RoosterCogburn1008 It expanded Americans' rights. The people can now form a union.....LEGALLY!!! The New Deal created social programs. Programs that benefit the American People. With government involvement FDR also created the Unemployment Wage.
@pjmgame First, they could already form legal unions. Second, unions are the ones helping to currently ruin the economy and support politicians who also hurt the economy. Big labor is just as bad as anything else. And you mean social programs that are currently bankrupting us and are doomed to failure unless completely reformed? Ya, thanks FDR. Oh yay, more welfare! FDR initiated the current nanny state in our society. A society that is now crumbling because of the building blocks he laid.
@RoosterCogburn1008 Wrong. Before FDR forming a union was illegal. Social programs also helped ended the depression. What I find funny out of all of this is that you love TR but dislike FDR. You obviously haven't watched the all the videos. TR wanted to pass the same programs that FDR did. TR and FDR are EXACTLY the same. However, FDR had flaws. EX: His treatment of Japaense Americans after WW2.
@pjmgame There were unions since the late 1800s; look it up. Social programs did nothing to end the recession. If he wanted to help people, he shouldn't have destroyed food when he knew people were starving. Yes TR was a huge liberal. Not nearly as huge as FDR but still liberal. I ignore all the things he did wrong because he was badass. Nothing more nothing less. Thats why I originally said he was the only good liberal President. Its only because he was badass not because his policies were good
@pjmgame Well like I said, FDR's policies were worse in that many were actually passed. You are totally ignoring the badass element of TR. And believe me, I know about Theodore Roosevelt and his political views.
@pjmgame TR grew more liberal in his later years, mostly after leaving the Presidency. Most of his ideas were never instituted. And I'm saying that I disregard TR's policies (honestly he had a pretty uneventful presidency compared to many) and I say he's the only good liberal President purely because he's badass. Liberals generally aren't good, and the only thing that makes TR the exception is that he was badass. How do you not get that?
@RoosterCogburn1008 "liberals generally aren't good" *cough* They ended slavery, gave equal rights to women and African Americans. The list goes on. Now back on TR, you only like him because he was a badass? Be more specifc please.
@pjmgame First, I'm assuming you're talking about the U.S. specifically, so that's what I'll focus on. Liberals ended slavery? The 13th Amendment was passed under Johnson, who I wouldn't exactly call liberal. Although liberals did result in the civil war killing hundreds of thousands of people. Blacks getting the right to vote was done by Republicans, already clearly in the conservative position by the 1960s. As for women, the key word I used, which you even quote, "generally aren't good." Not
@RoosterCogburn1008 Radical Republicans. This was a liberal group who used the overide rule of congress to pass laws with Johnson's veto. Also the civil war was started due to the issue of slavery. The spark that lit the flame was the fort sumpter attack in 1861. Please, learn your history.
@pjmgame 100%, just a vast and extreme majority. And the fact that you're asking for specifics on why TR was badass, shows that you don't know enough about him. I could go on for a long time explaining why he was badass and the many badass things he did in his life. To name a few: cowboy years, San Juan Hill, assassination attempt, Africa safari, amazon river trip, etc.
@pjmgame You do have to draw a distinction though between TR and the interpretation of a modern liberal such as Woodrow Wilson and Barack Obama. To say Teddy was a left-winger is incorrect.
@tachikoma747 First off, Obama is a moderate. The man is backed by the banks. TR wanted to pass the same policies like FDR did. Minium wage, social security, etc. TR was a progressive who got government involved in a lot of things.
@pjmgame President Obama is most definitely not a moderate. What about his presidency, educational background or pre-Senate years makes him a moderate? Does he do a good job convincing the public that he IS a moderate? sure
@tachikoma747 Obama is a moderate. During his Presidental Campaign in 2008 he was backed by the banks. The man is another puppet. He also passed NDAA. That whole Obamacare thing. You know who are the REAL winners. The health insurance companies. Obama also extended the PATRIOT ACT. This year I'm voting for Ron Paul.
@pjmgame that's the genius of Obama: moderate in appearance, radical in content, although I agree on the big banks supporting him. more and more we are becoming a state capitalist nation.
@tachikoma747 LMFAO!!!!!! Radical? Are you fucking kidding me. The man is another wall street puppet. NDAA. He passed it. This man is another GWB. I proudly support Ron Paul.
@pjmgame No I'm not kidding. He may be "another GWB" but ideologically he is not. He's more of a puppet of ACORN and STORM than the Wall Street banks. Study his educational background.
@tachikoma747 He's a harvard and columbia grad. When he ran for president where did he get his money from? The corporations. The money supply says it all.
@vinnie1369 Obama was schooled based on the Alinsky model, which was incorporated into the community organizational activities of groups like acorn and storm. Puppet was probably the wrong word. Disciple or adherent is more appropriate. Obama did a good portion of his community work in the 80s and 90s.
@tachikoma747 I think the point of my comment is that you only used a pronoun and didn't specify who HE was.....I was trying to make the point...albeit in a round about way....that HE could refer to Mr. Roosevelt WHOM THESE COMMENTS SHOULD BE ABOUT and not the current HNIC.
@pjmgame In regards to Teddy's big government actions against the monopolies, remember that during the Progressive Era, the massive industrial trusts were trend-setters. The U.S. had never encountered such massive corporate conglomerates before in its history. They were allowed to get so big, corrupt and out of control simply because the government had no damage control measures in effect to limit their power because we had never encountered anything like this before.

@nitewolf89 Typical Conservative bashing Clinton. Clinton was a great President who left office WITH A SURPLUS!!!! If your here to bash liberals then you've came to the wrong place.
@pjmgame lol y cuz liberals are sooooooooooooo smart yea your sooooooo smart your stupid [now watch 'em make fun of me because i used text to write in stead of full sentences, get a life]
@pjmgame your right T.R. was a liberal a true liberal one of independent thought not far left extremism. today The old lion would be An Independent nor democrat, progressive or republican.
@nitewolf89 There is no left-wing extremism. We have a right-wing media. The rich OWNS everything. As a matter of fact Obama is a moderate and compared to TR , TR is more liberal. Roosevelt increased the size of government. You should research him.
@pjmgame i have homie i have he started unemployment and minimum wage all the good things y i love the man and the media is favoring the left-wing and there is left wing extremism it's just considered expressing ones opinion but when a conservative does it it's rightwing extremism the only right wing media i know of is Fox the rest is left wing. the government needs to be a good size not big like it is now but not to small were it will be fragile [problem with the articles of confederation]
@nitewolf89 Theodore Roosevelt was left-wing. And again there is no "left wing media". Fox, CNN, CSPAN, ABC, etc. Its all owned by the corporations.WAKE-UP!!!!
@pjmgame their left wing he was center-left guy everything is owned my corporations it's how jobs are made in lost. we need to outlaw corporations or businesses from leaving meaning those American businesses that leave to some third world nation for cheaper workers. outlaw it ban it instead of banning our firearms a limiting our first amendment rights we should do this.
@nitewolf89 But your people will call it socialism. Don't you see? With the Tea Party there is no hope in America. To them any amount of regulation is socialism. So, how can we get anything done?
@pjmgame why my people i'm an independent I think for myself I believe in the constitution. I believe instead of making more airports make more farmland to grow more agriculture like cotton, wheat, corn, [if they legalize it] Cannabis. outlaw gun control meaning gun bans and regulation meaning foid cards or any type of permits we never needed it during this nations birth so why now?
@nitewolf89 That's very good. Your one of the few smart conservatives out there. Like Ron Paul for example. Even though I'm a liberal, I'm a huge fan of his.
@nitewolf89 Theodore Roosevelt. An idol of mine. As you can see he did a lot of great things for this nation. FDR, MLK, Abraham Lincoln are also my idols. They were all liberals who made America a better place.
@pjmgame I'm an independant although i do have more conservative views on the subjects such as gun control ( we should only have one law the second amendment) abortion ( only in the case of death, rape, or incest should it be allowed) no morgages or taxes on our property we own it it's ours no I.R.S. no income tax leave it to the parents to raise the kids not uncle sam. no taxing the rich for being successful but keep a check on the corparations not to leave our shores.
@nitewolf89 I oppose gun control. If your a conservative why do you oppose abortion? Conservatives DON'T want government involved with people's lives. And why do you oppose taxing the rich? Do you think its fair that the middle class should pay all the taxes? Obama extended the Bush tax cuts. That's why there's this Occupy Wall Street Movement. To end corporatism.
@pjmgame beacause abortion is murder when a 16 year old couple get one just because they don't wanna take care of it that's wrong why is it wrong to execute a murderer but it's ok to kill a baby still in the womb? and i am the middle class i have high hopes for myself and when i make it i don't wanna be punished for being successful granted the rich should pay more than they do but punishing successful people is communism. we should go by what some one makes in how we tax them....
@nitewolf89 T.R. DID NOT SAY THAT!! Its not punishment. Its the right way. Also the middle class pays the most taxes because Obama extended the Bush tax cuts. You think the middle class should pay the most taxes? The difference between the rich and poor is that the poor work because they need money for familes. There are OLD PEOPLE working because they need more money. The rich don't. They have more than enough money for their familes. The Rich are nothing but greedy bastards.
"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." that's why when you file for unemployment and food stamps or sum type of assistance it's from your state not the government. these thing ["State assistance"] are only temporary any how real true blue Americans go for hard work Capitalism.
@pjmgame ... and we should pay stay at home moms/dads for their labor somehow like a public aid of some sort the stay at home wives/ husbands (very rare for the husband) don't get their just dues never have. and we need a official language English. and if states wanna establish their own secondary language then ok or if people wanna speak other languages because of their cultual backgrounds go ahead but know english first and if immigrants ree to learnenglish boot em out . T.R. said the same

@LordSnake42 watch the hypperbole. He sold out at times, too. And his foreign policy would be a bit dangerous today...assuming he didn't adjust with the times. Nevertheless, I would still take him over anyone on the political scene, but I thin a lot of folks would be surprised by some of the policies he favored. I mean, this was no states rights guy. The tea baggers would slay him.
@lipitzm Teddy Roosevelt would barf at how the rich has bought out American politics. The common people can organize, contribute, and put a third-party person into the White House, but it has to be a job done SUPREME, void of continual corrupting influences, answerable to no-one, a one-shot deal to chastise the Democrats and Republicans, a switch firmly held to tan asses, to ennoble the workers, free from their demon "representatives."
IF there were just 100,000 people just like you, with the will and resolve to take the country back to the people by electing the worthy, it could be done. But unfortunately, we are divided, scared, and more of each other than the govt; and filled w/so many shortcomings; to do such a noble thing. Americans only care about their immediate personal wants&needs. They've been demoralized&broken by the media. You gotta be Alec baldwin to be heard. Maybe Julia Roberts, if not? shut up.

@pjmgame i have homie i have he started unemployment and minimum wage all the good things y i love the man and the media is favoring the left-wing and there is left wing extremism it's just considered expressing ones opinion but when a conservative does it it's rightwing extremism the only right wing media i know of is Fox the rest is left wing. the government needs to be a good size not big like it is now but not to small were it will be fragile [problem with the articles of confederation]
nitewolf89 4 months ago
@nitewolf89 Theodore Roosevelt was left-wing. And again there is no "left wing media". Fox, CNN, CSPAN, ABC, etc. Its all owned by the corporations.WAKE-UP!!!!
pjmgame 4 months ago
@pjmgame their left wing he was center-left guy everything is owned my corporations it's how jobs are made in lost. we need to outlaw corporations or businesses from leaving meaning those American businesses that leave to some third world nation for cheaper workers. outlaw it ban it instead of banning our firearms a limiting our first amendment rights we should do this.
nitewolf89 4 months ago
@nitewolf89 I agree we need to keep corporations here in America. But if we make a law your people will call it "socialism".
pjmgame 4 months ago
@pjmgame and if not pass a law to ban it fine them a well amount were it will bankrupt them if they leave.
nitewolf89 4 months ago
@nitewolf89 But your people will call it socialism. Don't you see? With the Tea Party there is no hope in America. To them any amount of regulation is socialism. So, how can we get anything done?
pjmgame 4 months ago
@pjmgame why my people i'm an independent I think for myself I believe in the constitution. I believe instead of making more airports make more farmland to grow more agriculture like cotton, wheat, corn, [if they legalize it] Cannabis. outlaw gun control meaning gun bans and regulation meaning foid cards or any type of permits we never needed it during this nations birth so why now?
nitewolf89 4 months ago
@nitewolf89 So, your not a Tea Partier?
pjmgame 4 months ago
@pjmgame no i mean i agree with small government but no i'm not a tea partier. why do you ask?
nitewolf89 4 months ago
@nitewolf89 That's very good. Your one of the few smart conservatives out there. Like Ron Paul for example. Even though I'm a liberal, I'm a huge fan of his.
pjmgame 4 months ago
@pjmgame May I ask with no disrespect why are you a liberal
nitewolf89 4 months ago
@nitewolf89 Theodore Roosevelt. An idol of mine. As you can see he did a lot of great things for this nation. FDR, MLK, Abraham Lincoln are also my idols. They were all liberals who made America a better place.
pjmgame 4 months ago
@pjmgame I'm an independant although i do have more conservative views on the subjects such as gun control ( we should only have one law the second amendment) abortion ( only in the case of death, rape, or incest should it be allowed) no morgages or taxes on our property we own it it's ours no I.R.S. no income tax leave it to the parents to raise the kids not uncle sam. no taxing the rich for being successful but keep a check on the corparations not to leave our shores.
nitewolf89 4 months ago
@nitewolf89 I oppose gun control. If your a conservative why do you oppose abortion? Conservatives DON'T want government involved with people's lives. And why do you oppose taxing the rich? Do you think its fair that the middle class should pay all the taxes? Obama extended the Bush tax cuts. That's why there's this Occupy Wall Street Movement. To end corporatism.
pjmgame 3 months ago
@pjmgame beacause abortion is murder when a 16 year old couple get one just because they don't wanna take care of it that's wrong why is it wrong to execute a murderer but it's ok to kill a baby still in the womb? and i am the middle class i have high hopes for myself and when i make it i don't wanna be punished for being successful granted the rich should pay more than they do but punishing successful people is communism. we should go by what some one makes in how we tax them....
nitewolf89 3 months ago
@nitewolf89 T.R. DID NOT SAY THAT!! Its not punishment. Its the right way. Also the middle class pays the most taxes because Obama extended the Bush tax cuts. You think the middle class should pay the most taxes? The difference between the rich and poor is that the poor work because they need money for familes. There are OLD PEOPLE working because they need more money. The rich don't. They have more than enough money for their familes. The Rich are nothing but greedy bastards.
pjmgame 3 months ago
@pjmgame he did to "Every immigrant who comes here should be required within five years to learn English or leave the country."
Theodore Roosevelt
soo if yur rich your greedy but teddy was rich so was he greedy?
nitewolf89 3 months ago
@nitewolf89 Your right about the English part but everything else is false. Roosevelt like his father was a philanthrpst. Excuse my spelling
pjmgame 3 months ago
@pjmgame don't worry about it
nitewolf89 3 months ago
that's why we have our 10th Amendment
"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." that's why when you file for unemployment and food stamps or sum type of assistance it's from your state not the government. these thing ["State assistance"] are only temporary any how real true blue Americans go for hard work Capitalism.
nitewolf89 4 months ago

Nah...throw in Teddy Roosevelt. Of course both would have been Democrats today.

@lipitzm yeah thats true
HardikG121 1 year ago

Maybe Julia Roberts, if not? shut up.
peace.
