Wip3out is better than 2097. Too many black and white checkers in 2097. Wip3out was just the evolution of the original style and, I believe, the pinnacle.

I'm a fan of the original wipeout and XL (2097).. I recently got the new Hd/fury for ps3 and it's a great game with super crisp graphics, but it just looks too bright and cheerful to me.. I miss the dark blade runner ish' look of the originals

Hey man great job on this video, you've edited it really well. I think they're both great games, but personally I prefer the look of Wipeout 2097, even though it's the older of the two. I just think the tracks in it looked more colourful and vibrant and the lighting effects when you went through Tunnels etc looked better.

@thermoptic, I am sorry, but I have to disagree with you on thinking Fusion and Pure don't fit into the series. Yes, they made some changes, such as "absorbing" your weapons for shield strength, but they still both fit in very well, I think. They are some of the best in the series. wEo 2097 was my favorite, but I also wish it had analog control. It would be sick to see a remake!

yeah this is the music from the first wipeout game called Messij - COLD STORAGE the first was real fun to play plus 2097 upgrades the visual effects from the first one i allso liked wipe3out mainly because it was the first wipeout i played plus the music was great so i would say i like 2097 and 3 because of the old times i had.

2097 was the best most realistic wipeout ever, 3 was good better graphics but not quite as good, 2097's levels were awesome. wipeout 64 was cool cause it used the same ships and weapons as 2097 with a couple extras in there

nah wipeout 64 didn't have the same tracks, it had the same crafts and weapons with a few extras. Slightly better graphics, and the n64 control pad was surprisingly good with the game

@2333321983: All but the last one in 64 are slightly modified versions of original/2097 tracks in mirror image trust me. The first one is the first one from 2097 for example and the second is the first from the original. The only new track is the last one.

wipEout 2097 was the best of the bunch of wipEout games... the physics was right, the wall scraping was excellent, the balance of weapons perfect, and all in the day of digital controls as well - no smooth movements like you have nowadays LOL.

@monkeypoo1993 I COMPLETELY AGREE!!! I've been saying this for years!!! Why did studio liverpool screw it up SO BAD! I doubt anyone who works for LiverPool ever played XL for more than a few minutes. Really, there's not a single sci fi racing game out there that compares to the sic physics, tight control, and futuristic aura that Wipeout XL (2097) had. Someone should email Studio Liverpool or start a petition.

Wipeout 2097 had a style that was bright, loud, and aggressive, with an acid/techno/DnB soundtrack to match.

Wip3out was more cool, minimal, and clean, which made sense with all the progressive trance music that was in the game.

In the end Wip3out and XL/2097 are still my top favorites of the series.

one big memory was doing all nighter on christmas or nye or some family dinner and we kept getting faster and faster and faster till we hit some insane unbeatable track record, which stood its ground only to be smashed an hour later by 4 whole seconds.

2097/XL is by far the best. Look how they just sucked the colour out of wip3out and made it look drab and unexciting. Wipeout HD doesn't match the awesome physics of 2097 but is still a great game in its own right. Bring back wall scraping!

wipeout3 had waaaay better graphics dude. they spent a LONG time on that engine, and even went back to further improve it in special edition.

however i do prefer 2097; like you say wipeout was too easy to play, you could crash your way through the races and still come in 1st, while in 2097 you really had to master the tracks to progress.

Super smooth mix and editing work! Wipeout XL/2097 is the younger, louder and cockier brother to Wip3out.

I do like Wip3out's high-res, 60fps and awesome tracks. Too bad the Special Edition was never released outside EU.

Deezo187, I agree with you. Wip3out was a great follower to XL/2097 but after that i haven't played a good Wipeout game. I like the design of the PSP Wipeout games but pysics is not right! I hope that Wipeout HD for the ps3 will be good and that they fix the feeling and pyshics of the game!

Yes, you are right, back then the ships seemed they were really flying low, and you had to control pitch very often, otherwise the front of the ship would hit the floor and slow you down. Going round corners also felt different, especially in 1st person view :)

Nowadays the ships seem to be "bolted" to the floor, no feeling of flying at all, you just have to use left or right to steer the ships, and sliding using air-brakes also felt cooler then!! :(

Nice. I'm a big fan of the Wipeout series, but 2097 to this day remains one of my favourite games ever. Pure is close behind, but 3 never really got me. Less said about Fusion the better...
