That large dark brush must be Winsor & Newton series 7 #10? you inspired many people like my self. My first painting with wc was ok there I decided to go for it but after seeing your work made me stay and practice hard. You are Master my friend in real meaning! Enjoy your gift not everyone receives such gift in life :) Your website is down?
if you could spare a little of your time, could you tell us if pans are for working in the field and tubes for the studio... or it is just a little harder to work with pans?. also wich brushes are a good choice?.
thank you for your time and keep posting videos!!! they are amazing.
I use only tubes now. Pans are sometimes too much trouble -- too small, more expensive though very high quality. But you can't pick up a lot paint each time. More for patient slow painters outdoor. They are more suitable for smaller paintings.
I have Rembrandt pans. They are very good but I hardly use them. I use only when I am lazy to bring too many things when I travel.
from time to time you could also load a video of the sketches (guide and soul of watercolor.. i think), they are very very good, quite a syhntesis!!! and i guess you do them in no time!!!
There is no secret. When I was 13 years old, my calligraphy teacher asked every student to hang our writing hand in the air and write. I was a LAZY. I only practise 1 year and ran away from that class.
15 years later, all of sudden I understood what he was trying to tell us.
If you practise Chinese Calligraphy for years, you'll know there is no secret. Just do it everyday. Nothing CONCEPTUAL!!!
Okay thanks for the tip. Just want to know as well, just how much water must I need on my brush for watercolour painting? To me, it seems that I put too much sometimes.
If you want to get dark color, use more pigment and less watercolor. Can add more pure pigment into the wet area to get more saturated. That you can adjust the tonal setting. Sometimes, pure pigment in the brush can work with wet area very well.
Hi, Normally watercolor lightens 20 to 30% after dark colors dry. I use more pigment for darker colors. That gives more tonal range. However, tonal structure is fundamental. There is no secret. Just have to practise.
See Adolf Menzel's oil paintings may give you some tips. He designed the 9 scales tonal structures.
Will try to post more when I have time. It takes time to transfer and convert video from dv to mpg. You can google my name Ng Woon Lam for more intructions I post on my website. Best regards, Woon Lam

I was wondering if you could tell me some tips on watercolour painting. I can't seem to get in the tone of the painting, and the blend of it.
