  • Love this song!

  • what was the opening after the Champagne One

was it the Blue and White ones (where they showed the chracter names)

  • @carloscutie78 Yes, that is referred to as Tour of Llanview 2 opening because it showed pictures of the town along with the cast. That theme music has remained until the end, although it was modified in 2004

  • What ever happened to Yasmine Bleeth?

  • The very first time i ever sold my soul to the devil I gave up celestial heaven in order to get my face where Cordero's was and be on OLTL as an adult trapped in a 2nd grader's body, cause I was only 8 or 9 at the time, but I knew how to deliver the lines OLTL writers were looking for. My storyline ended w/ me and Max Holden moving to Buenos Aires to live in the castle that Gabrielle Medina had left to him before she died only to be resurrected w/ a new haircut.

  • It kinda makes me angry they got rid of this one. Because, the next opening was horrid. Just plain horrid. Looked like a porn flick. They should have just kept this until 1995 when they updated to the Tour Of Llanview II version.

  • NO THIS ENDED 1991

  • @SuperRene002 Does this look like a commercial for OLTL from a station other than ABC?

  • does anyone know the name of the actor who played Herb

he looks so familiar (like I have seen him somewhere else)

  • @CarlosSuperCutie Anthony Call

  • Thanks :)

  • I love OLTL

    but I agree

I so didnt like the champagne bottle

    yuck!

  • I was 20 numbers off the question I asked I'm sorry.

  • What television staton had the number 27 at the end I don't believe that it is an abc station playing this opening it looks like whoever had access to oltl got this opening to play during the commercials until the show actually came on and it looks as if the station was playing reruns of this soap.

  • lmao at dorians hair :P

  • I never knew Jason Webb was in these credits.

  • I never knew there was a Jason Webb!

  • He was a great character. He was mainly involved with Dorian, Marty, and LeAnn.

  • @CarlD2 I've yet to find a scene with him!

  • There are a number of them under VickRobCal

  • I realized soon after 1999 that all the shows had passed through their glory years. It's just so sad to me. Even the ones I didn't watch -- you can tell by the these and other clips - it's just not coming back.

  • EP Jill Farren Phelps messed up OLTL. But in 1999 many soaps became boring except for Y&R

  • You can tell by the end of 1991, it was a much smaller cast. Not as many people appeared in this opening as previous openings.

  • i hated HATED karen witter as tina

  • I LOVED Karen Witter as Tina. Too bad she was not still on OLTL. She was better than no Tina.

Karen was also great in the March 1982 playboy magazine. You can find the pictures online.

  • I put this on another vid but cant find it now lol so my question is the guy at 14 secs is that Kevin he is Cute

  • Yes it's Kevin

  • that was joey thrower--he was a terrible actor ut that's not why they fired him--as soap opera diagest put it "He got too big for his britches"

  • This is still my favorite OLTL opening. Many thanks for posting it. :)

  • I hope they bring Dorian's oldest daughter Cassie back to lanview. I often wondered if part of the reason she left was because she needed space from Dorian.

  • i hope they bring back ava haddad

  • Any child of Dorian's needs space from her, lol. Anyway, Cassie, along with Kelly and Adrinna will be returning sometime in the early part of this year.

  • Wow, I started watching OLTL in 2004, and my thought is WHO ARE ALL THOSE PEOPLE?!?!?! I think I recognized two of them. LOL

  • If I am correct, not all the contract players were even in this opening because I think ABC knew they were going to be changing the opening credits very soon.

As far as I know it's:

Asa, Viki #3, Clint, Bo, Cord, Tina #5, Max, Megan, Cassie #3, Kevin #5, LeeAnn, Jason, Wanda, Larry, Dorian #5, ?, ?, ?, ?, Renee.

Cord is Asa's illegitamate son, Tina was his on and off wife, Cassie is Dorian's daughter, LeeAnn is Kevin's first wife and had a son, Duke together.

  • One of the last male characters in this opening (before Renee) was Rafe. I thought he and Delila had married and left town by then?

  • I should also mention that the guy who appears two people before Renee is Herb Callison, and that the black woman near the end is probably Sheila Price.

  • Oh yeah! I know the name Sheila Price, but I don't think she was too prominent in 1995 or 1996. However, I didn't really start watching it until 1997 and I was 12 then.

  • No.....Cord is Clint's son with Maria Roberts. If you saw the "flashback episodes from this summer, Maria was a maid at the Buchannon Ranch in TX and she & Clint had an affair.

  • Well they had two versions of the opening that showed different characters. I think Viki was the only one who appeared in both versions of the opening

  • Here is a complete list of the characters in this opening sequence:

Asa Buchanan, Viki Buchanan, Clint Buchanan, Bo Buchanan, Cord Roberts, Tina Roberts, Max Holden, Megan Harrison, Cassie Callison, Kevin Buchanan, LeeAnn Buchanan, Jason Webb, Wanda Wolek, Larry Wolek, Dorian Lord, Herb Callison, Shelia Price, Troy Nichols, Rafe Garretson, and Renee Buchanan

  • It is very refreshing to see Andrea Evans back as Tina. It has been a long time since we've heard the country Mendora mentioned. All I can say is that history is rich!!! I like the history more than some of the shallow stories of today. It is also great to see the original Marty back. Let's keep it this way for a while!

  • Jessica Tuck will always be one of my favorites!

  • I agree. The episode where she died is quite possibly my favorite OLTL episode ever! She had a way about her that was indescribable. And I loved her smile and her sass. She worked so well off Joe Lando. They were the perfect couple.

  • Yes, her smile. That is it! She had such a presence about her. A lot of characters don't have that today.

  • this is OLTL started going down

  • correction this is when OLTL started going down

  • 21 seconds in.. is that Dorian?

  • Yes - Elaine Princi

  • while not robin strrasser, she was a great replacement

  • @whitbyterry

WHO THE HELL IS THE LADY AT 0:18, I ALWAYS SEE HER IN THE OPENINGS. IS SHE STILL ON THE SHOW?

  • @devmonbar That was Wanda Wolek. She ran a restaurant for many years but was just sort of there, most of the time. She left in the early 90s I think.

  • @whitbyterry Yes, Terry. She left in the early 90's. According to the story, she left Llanview for Seattle, where she got married and opened a bookstore. Jason and LeAnne had left before that.

  • @whitbyterry That's correct, Wanda left in 94. She had been there since the 70's, one of the longer running people. She used to be married to Larry's brother Vinnie who died.

  • Okay i keep hearing about, and my mother just confirmed it, this Asian Blair. That is totally weird. I wasnt watching OLTL until the late 90's so i just always thought Kassie was the original Blair. But now i gotta see this Asian Blair. Is there any post on here of the original???

  • I don't know about her being Asian, but she definitely was not the blond-haired/blue eyed Blair you see on OLTL now. She was definitely dark haired woman with brown eyes. IMO, she was way more attractive.

  • ive seen her, she was asian, but i disagree Kassie is alot more attractive.

  • Ah, yes...Mia Korf. Nothing against Kassie Depaiva, but I miss her.

  • I loved Laura Bonarrigo and Karen Witter when they were on the show. See the future cokehead Yasmine Bleeth in the credits

  • Laura and Karen were terrible replacements for cassie and tina. their diction and mispronunciation of words and poor acting just shot the characters to hell. i would have rahter they didnt recast

  • Don't forget Erika Slezak is the third Viki too.

  • yes i know--gillian spencer and joanne dorian were the first two. technically elaine princi is the 4th dorain--dixie carter played the part briefly--filling in for nancy pinerton

  • Laura was phenomenal as an adult Cassie, that she can break down in a scene to cry and she was a great actress. Karen made Tina BOLDER! Holly Gagnier performance was aloof as Cassie and she was a waste of talent!

  • All the shots were taken in Harrisburg, PA. No idea who's dog it is!

I think OLTL was the first show to have opening titles with the cast, after Y&R. That led to Another World going with that format soon after and then, when the 90s hit, most of the shows went that route.

  • Actually...Ryan's Hope did it before OLTL, and maybe even Y&R.

  • Right - I guess it was Y&R first and then Ryan's Hope and then OLTL.

  • Actually many other soaps had characters in the openings before OLTL. Y&R started the trend in 1973, followed by Ryan's Hope in 1975, The Doctors around 1977, The Edge of Night in 1980, Guiding Light around 1982, and then finally One Life To Live in 1984.

  • Remember All my children didnt have one until 1990-1991ish like so One Life to Live was not last and this the greatest part is like Dorian and Viki are the same as then as they are now

  • JJoey, you might be surprised to know that it is not the same Dorian featured in this opening. It is Elaine Princi, who played Dorian from 1989 to 1993. She replaced Robin Strasser, the previous and current Dorian. And no one will fault you for the error, because the two actresses resembled one another quite a bit.

  • WOW thanks whenen I didn't see that.

  • Yep. I even felt that Elaine did a wonderful job of filling her shoes. She captured every essence of the character flawlessly. As with Karen Witter coming in to play Tina. I didn't feel that way with Max and Sara's replacements. Though Nicolas was a good actor, I didn't feel he captured the essence of Max Holden.

  • even in mannerisms

  • AMC started featuring characters in their opening in January of 1990, the same year of their 20th Anniversary.

General Hospital wouldn't use characters in their opening until April of 1993.

Days of Our Lives probably has to be the only remaining soap to not feature characters in their opening credits.

  • that is so untrue amc has been featuring their characters in the credits for a long time way before 1990 i remember the credits from the 70's and it showed the characters

  • You must be thinking of the wrong show. AMC's opening, before 1990, was simply a photo album on a desk that opened to say "All My Children". There were no cast pictures until January 1990.

  • oh yea i remember now the only person it would show was the guest star

  • Perhaps you're thinking of AMC's first six months in 1970, when Rosemary Prinz was shown in the photo album with the "Special Guest Star" title. After the opening was re-shot without her, no other cast photos were shown in the opening credits until the first CGI sequence was introduced in January 1990.

  • It may not have been the first to feature the cast in the opening, but OLTL was indeed the first daytime soap to have VOCALS in its opening theme. :-)

  • I'm from Harrisburg....I'm going to have to watch it in slow motion....I know a majority of the landmarks and buildings shown, but not all of them. I think the dog may have just been the owner's dog of whatever house they were at. There are a lot of historical residential homes along the Susquehanna River.

  • @whitbyterry Not exactly -- LOVE OF LIFE created a new magnificent opening in 1977 that ran to the end of the show's run in 1980 that featured cast pictures. Have to give credit where credit is due. GUIDING LIGHT starting using this type of opening in 1981. I believe EDGE OF NIGHT started in the early 80's as well with cast pictures. There's probably even more that I'm not aware of.

  • @TimsDale4ever I swore that Y&R and The Doctors started the trend of actors in openings? Correct me if I am wrong.

  • @docgirl2009 They could have been the first to use cast pictures -- I wouldn't know for sure. I just know OLTL definitely was NOT the first show to do this.

  • What are the background shot of and Who's black dog is that... OLTL, looks like besides Y&R, openings had shots of the characters before lot's of the rest.

  • This is cool, I love the song... Channel 47, almost had me confused, I live in the Central Valley of California/Fresno Area are Channel 47 is CBS...

  • Channel 47 is a Toronto, Canada station. :)

  • Correcting myself: this edit wasn't entirely a deletion of characters. Mark Brettschneider's Jason Webb was new (blonde haired guy with the pony tail; Wanda Wolek's nephew - was initially paired with Dorian in a May-December romance) - and James DePaiva had resumed the role of Max Holden from his replacement, Nicholas Walker. So there were two new photos.

  • This is during the time then-executive producer Linda Gottlieb had just taken over the show. There was a huge turnover of characters, and an intent to completely change the opening. So really, they'd just deleted several for this update. As for Tonja Walker's Alex Olanov, she was let go from the show. But Alex was later brought back as part of the Sarah Buchanan recast/back-from-the-dead story. This is where her association with Carlo Hesser began.

  • The first Blair (Mia Korf) did not come into the picture until the Champagne opening. I think she started around 1992.

  • Nope, Korf did start in '91. That was weird though, because Blair went from being Asian to Southern almost overnight.

  • Where's Blair? Is she in any of the openings, besides 1995?

  • Yeah, I notice that also. I guess around this time the cast was cut smaller, a lot of characters where not on the show during this time, but would eventually return such as Dorian, Alex, etc.

  • Dorian was there on this opening. Elaine Princi had been playing her for about two years at this point. About a year and a half later, Robin Strasser resumed the role. Princi's Dorian is featured the last of the third set of charachters, following Dr. Larry Wolek. Her resemblance to Strasser during this time was somewhat remarkable; her portrayal of Dorian was pretty damn good, too - many argued even better than Strasser's.

  • Any Elaine Princi as Dorian clips?

  • She's not there for the last one. I don't recall if she had left the show around this time or not. But I do remember that the last opening was very small - there were only 5 faces in each section, where there had been 7 or 8 in the last two sections in the past. She is in the opening before this one.

  • Oh ok. I guess she left sometime before December 1991. I looks like ABC knew when they made this update, they were replacing it with a new opening.

  • It's very slow.

  • It only looks slow because there were less characters featured in it, so they no loger matched up to the faster bass beats in the later part of the theme.

  • Where's Alex Olanov?

  • She'll be returning for the death of Asa this week.
