ive just started tai chi chuan, it is very interesting and i am interested to see how it will benefit my tae kwon do. some day ill have to find out how to learn this sword style
@KrazyFuckinCrackers1 if I am correct, this form of sword technique is practiced slowly so that you can master each and every movement of the body gracefully and correctly until the movements are second nature. Once you are a master or you are in an actual duel, then of course the technique is sped up and the slow movements you see here become swift strikes. Ive seen a guy do this live in a demonstration. He started slow then sped up into fast movements.
The jian in the hands of a skilled wielder is a force to be reckoned with. I've always been impressed with the balance and fluidity of the movements. It seems like a combatant armed with the jian would be able to dance circles around you and run you through before you could even realize what's happening.
At first I wanted to start doing martial arts, but I learned there's a chinese lady in my area teaching tai chi with and without sword, so after watching this, I think I'll start with attending that :D i guess it'd be good to start doing martial arts when I have more control of my mind and body :D
I have never received any martial art training but I still find a weird kind of peace and balance in just letting everything go and surrender my body to my mind... ill often play some asian music in the background when doing this... Weirdly the moves I do often come out like forms of Tai Chi... I have also found myself able to parry moves done by my cousin (who have trained martial arts for many years)... its a bit weird to be honest
go chop that duck.... but seriously more videos, im american and it hard to find this stuff in USA. Very good video, thanks for lables and names. Traditional music is nice too
yeah a steel sword is good for forms practise, i used it kuz for me its like lifting weights, good for my muscles. I preferr the heavier steel swords. btw its taolu if your speeching about chinese forms not kata, chinese and japanese people get offended when you confuse there cultures.
I tried a time whit inproved moves, whit and wood sword in the left hand, pulling my energy in my hand, then in a second when i felt like a wave of energy there,i just striked another sword in a combat, and i broke it in alot of pieces.
i've been teaching myself from tai chi sword from a book i found and its such a beautiful martial art, i feel so relaxed and i can really feel my energy flowing in ways i didn't know it could.
hmmm thats the greatness of tai chi i have very little expeirience myself with it but many other martial arts and i found when in need of some peace and a good nights sleep later in the day tai chi makes me so peaceful when im finished i fell asleep lol anyway great vid too
Awsome, then you are feelng Chi. The excellence of this is also that you are teaching your body muscle memory for real combat situations, so in affect you are helping your body on so many levels. Personally I feel so focused after practising Tai Chi. If your interested in the Martial side of Tai Chi ceck out Chen style, awsome stuff. Jesse Tsao is also one on the finest Martial Artists available to us in the west :)
If you practice Traditional Yang Family style there is plenty of Martial Application as well as Chen style. Just wanted to make a plug for Yang family :)
so, I was trying to help my friend who lives in a different state w/ what I know of swordsmanship(which is very limited to begin with), and then later found out that he has a jian while everything I learned was w/ an iaito(japanese swordsmaship). So, obviously, that's a problem. Does anyone know of a good site to help starters w/ jian? Any similarities between this and an iaito(if any). Sorry, I know this is very vague, just trying to help a friend.
well, i have about 0 actual sword use experiance, but since your friend is using a jian( ba gua sword, tai chi, etc area of martial arts), and you have experiance using an iaito ( i assume that you learned iaido/mogito). They come from different martial schools, but with using a sword, i suppose that you could give basic sword advice. However the basic ideas in using the sword probably vary. i would suggest your friend find a school of tai chi. Only for the fact that it would be best anyway.
Agree, it helps a lot. And not only that but it helps reduces levels of anxiety, stress, and pain. It benefits patients with that suffer from heart failure, high blood pressure, heart attacks, arthritis, muitiple sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease, and Alzheimer's Disease. Tai Chi, along with Yoga, has reduced levels of LDLs 20-26 milligrams when practiced for 12-14 weeks. In fact, Tai Chi burns more calories than surfing and nearly as many as downhill skiing!
youd be surprised waht you can learn from a video if you have the virtue of true patience and ability to have the self criticism to judge yourself fairly. There is a man in Nova Scotia who won a few competition internationally he learned everything from studying taoism and tai chi and then tai chi videos from dr Paul Lam. Whil learning from a master is always more proficcient many people dont live in a place they can take advantage of this masters wonderfull tutalage.
i do wing chun kung fu and at my kwoon there is allso tai chi classes every saturday, iv been meaning to go but i keep forgetting, and sifu sao would you recomend cross training my kung fu with tai chi, cause iv been doing these chi gong meditations from this guy off youtube and there ammazing but i would love to lern them in better detail, so would you recomend this?
Yes! Tai chi provides the balance of energy flow, the calm, intention, concentration, control, coordination, inner power. It is a good cross training for other martial arts!
I love all aspects of Tai Chi. I have been doing the Yang Style 24 short form and fell inlove with it. I would like to find a master to help me reach my goal of teaching TaiChi and eventually learning the sword terchnique.
it's amazing how many different ways i see the same 32 movements done by different practioners. guess the one who's right is the one who can justify why the movement is done a certain way.

master, can u explain what is the benefit of practicing tai chi? i am a taekwondo practitioner but am interested in understanding other styles too. thank you for your help in advance.
I don't want to be a nay-sayer, but you cannot truly begin to learn tai chi forms from videos alone. At best, they are good references. A real instructor is your best bet if you really want to learn anything.
You are absolutley right Scott200, you cannot learn from video alone. I did not mention that I practice Yang Tai Chi hand form for almost 6 years and had some classes in Jian but stopped practicing it. I always thought there is no point in learning the sword until I felt my hand form is ready for it. So the video from Master Tsao just triggered my desire to learn the sword form now. I believe if you have a foundation in knowledge, videos can be of great additional help in your learning progress.
Very good and I can learn a lot from your teaching. Thank you! I would like to share with you two principals of taiji, which I belive you may want to improve on: No. 9 continuous movements without interruption; No. 10 Look for the gracefulness within the movements. Regards.
Yes the Han race along with the contributions of ethnic minorities have produced this civilization, on the environmental level (beautiful scenic park), on the exercise and self-improvement level, and most importantly the (inner) moral level. Even if you have a refined sword in a delicate environment, does not necessarily mean one possesses moral development; character comes through right conduct and long training.

Thanks for sharing with us. I learned this form years ago but had forgotten some of it.
It is slightly different but basically the same.

In most schools the colour is not important, but in most cases it's black or white or a combination of black and white.
