  • y was he sold to atletico?????

  • @dipo90 you absolute douchebag LOL! not only did the prem get formed in 1992.. structured league football wasnt founded untill 1888. what im trying to say is you know rock-all about footy obviously so stick to watching fellow douchebags fall of skateboards.

  • @Muurey91 Congratulations you can use google, his point about english players being overpriced is still true.

  • Vidic is a great defender , very strong , good with the head. Well vermaelen is or will be better then vidic in one or 2 years

  • this guy is so overated -..-

  • i dont think he is capable of a fabregas performance ever. he just isnt good enough for arsenal i think. good player none the less

  • honestly, im not being cocky, but when i play futsal, i do that all the time with less space. honestly i know im not the most skillful i cant do all those quick step overs n all, i just use turns n sidesteps to dribble. im sure merida's capable of something more special?

  • VERMAELEN! VERMAELEN! VERMAELEN!

  • Comment removed

  • @EC5TASY hell yeah! vERMAELEN FOR THE WIN!

  • best defender right now is VERMAELEN!

  • He's got potential, but how long can we hold on to him without him starting matches?

  • BLABLABLABALA terry, ferdinand the best defenders? are u sick?the spanish defenders has got 1 thing that others defenders dont have, they know, pass the ball and run with the ball without loss the ball, and yeah puyol is small and bad, but in the final cl 2009, cr dont do anything with puyol pressing him, dont fuck puyol has more titles than any defenders than u say, and i forgot say that i think the best defender in the world right now is GERARD PIQUE.

  • Pique is definitely a great defender, better than Rio (he's past his prime) and Vidic. Pique and Vermaelen are my choice for 2 best Central Backs. Not only can they defend, but they can score as well.

And BTW to anyone thats wondering, Fran Merida and Cesc are pals; they grew up together in the Barca Academy and both moved to Arsenal thanks to the brillant Arsene Wenger. Only a matter of time, before Fabregas leaves, and Merida is able to shine

  • @backoswacko10 you're right about the defenders but Merida will shine at Atletico hehe

  • @backoswacko10 Pique better than rio and vidic? Please, Rio lost his golden years about a year ago. during 2005-2009 rio was playing at a very high level. And vidic single handedly saved united several times during the 08 season. 17 clean sheets in a row and vidic played every one of those games.

Vermaelan had a great start, but soon he couldnt handle the premiere league pace, he still is a good defender. To be honest pique is a good defender. but not as good as vidic, no way.

  • Owned!

  • iniesta is the best ..los jugadores españoles son los mas tecnicos dando pases y en vision de juego desde siempre, juegan mas bonito, ese es el estilo y futbol del futuro..

  • omg

why isnt wenger playing him if he can do this

well wenger knows better then us all : )

  • @mrquaresma when the time is right i guess. we will be the untouchable again. no club ever done that

  • the new fabregas

  • españa!!! es la mejor

  • my point of view:

premier league is a very good legue, but because of the foreign players...english players nowadays are not the top you can think that gerrard, rooney, carrick are the best...but you can´´t compare that players, for example with the euro winners like iniesta, xavi, torres, casillas, villa...

and th new generations are coming like bojan, cesc.

so the thing is that is you have to made good team.and see if the generation from england are prepare for the football topclass

  • yh but youve got ppl like wilshire comin through jonny evans a class defender capable of first team football already for united and jay emanuel thomas u18 captain of arsenal

  • Evans is from Northern Ireland. Emmanuel-Thomas won't be as good as players like Cesc and Bojan. I agree with oasis141414 mostly but he forgot players like Lampard, Terry and Ferdinand (who are better than any defender Spain have to offer). The English League is full of foreign players because in order to be the best league in the world, you need the best talent from all over the world. England can benefit from this. More money is floating around the country because of demand for English footbal

  • terry yes but ferdinand is shit puyol is way better than him so is raul albiol

  • No way man i totally disagree. Fair play to Puyol in the champions league final but other then that he's proven he isn't have the player people say he is.. I can't really comment on Raul Albiol i don't see him play much

  • I'm a La Liga fan. Ferdinand > Spanish defenders. Puyol is better than Terry and so is Albiol on his day. I actually hate United, but i can admit that Ferdinand and Cheillini are the best in the world. Spanish National team is better than Englands too...and Italy's. For not >:)

  • Well, Terry is England captain ahead of Ferdinand for a reason. Trust me i hate United and Chelsea! Spanish national team is the best in the world, better than Brazil's, don't be fooled by the confederations cup! By the way, Gattuso is a legend!

  • ferdinand is only good with vidic tbh

not saying vidic is better than ferdinand im saying ferdinand becomes good when vidic is on the pitch

  • dude im an arsenal fan an even i can admit ferdinand is one of the best defenders around. Puyol isn't even in the top 30 defenders he's small, slow n not all that intelligent he was even gettin dropped by barca at times at the end of last season..

  • not even in the top 30? okay make a list of 30 defenders who are better than puyol NO YOU CANT

  • Terry

    Rio

    Vidic

Every other defender at CL level

  • What a load of shit

  • fuck you

  • I think the only english player to get in the spain team would be gerrard or maybe terry and ferdinand

  • carrick maybe? Then it could be Whoever they want on the left. Carrick holding Xavi in middle and iniesta on the right?

  • jajaja

    england dont play eurocopa

    do you remember ?¿

    iniesta is th best

  • It can most certainly be argued with. Gerrard is good but he only has the odd real brilliant game where he drives the team on. Other games he can just give in a decent performance with not a lot to talk about. Iniesta or Xavi are consistent and may not score as much as Gerrard but they do the midfielder's job of passing about, creating space and making opportunities for the striker.

  • he is from barcelona, i think he will return...

  • I don't think so.

  • ih yeh well id have fabregas arshavin walcot (maybe rosicy)gerrard

  • umm walcott hattrick against croatia anyone?

  • He is gonna be 1 of thebest midfieders in the WORLD

  • um no u forgot viera arshavin and idk i dont feel like thinking

  • anyone can do that but not everyone can do that right

  • where does he play now ?

  • Arsenal reserve

  • Thanx "rouze85"

  • this is enough footage to see that this guy is class. I've seen him play in the reserves and he looks great. Hopefully he can get in the side to play in the Carling cup game. Next year he could be brilliant next to Fabregas. Oh and Wenger... Bring in Stephen Appiah, he would be a wonderful free signing.

  • well i say Ole, fran merida just done them up like idiots.

  • where is he now?

  • Because there was so many foreigners in the premiership between 1667 and about 1994..

English players are over-hyped, over priced and technically inferior to the young foreign talent.

  • That is sought of true

  • lol good point ... it was all english to about 1994 like you said and england still were shocking lol

  • Spot on mate, it's the players at the likes of Arsenal who show English football how desperately far behind it is with the rest of the world.

  • How the bollocks does that work? Aren't Arsenal an English football club?

  • "technically inferior to the young foreign talent."

For now anyway, the technique of young english players is improving a lot.

  • @diop90

    The Premiership began in 1992?

  • @diop90 agreed, who would believe that Henderon is worth twice as much as Vermaelen. The market is a complete joke at the moment, i honestly cant wait until financial fairplay begins so that it controls the spending.

  • You idiot... allow me to brake down why English players given a great chance.

Gerrard, one of the best players in the world, plays for Liverpool. Rooney the same. Lampard the same. Carrick the same Ferdinand the same. Terry the same... the list goes on our national side have probably the best individual players in the world. These palyers play for the best teams in the world. Whats your point?

  • true about a lot of that, except carrick... i wouldnt dare put him in that list of best individual players.. he really isnt much mate

  • Had to join in the debate there. I would seriously disagree with your view on Carrick. He's england's best passer of the ball, and sat just behind the strikers, he can have a similar effect to Paul Scholes. He's probably England's most underrated player.

  • you reckon? i dont rate him at all, i wouldnt put him in the starting 11 for sure... i wouldnt bench him either, with barry, wright-phillips, hargreaves, jenas and parker all capable of playing in that position as well. i'd say their most underrated player would be agbonlahor or theo walcott... the pace on those two just creates moments of panic in a split second when a defence loses organisation, i'd like to see agbonlahor earn more caps and walcott to earn a starting spot eventually

  • I can't argue with that. Theo's last few performances for England - especially when he's able to drift more into his prefered central role - have shown that he's got what it takes at that level. As for Agbonglahor, for me he's definitely Rooney's long term partner, his runs work perfectly in stretching the defence, ready for a deeper lying striker such as Rooney to take advantage of the space.

As for the midfield though. my starting 4 would be a diamond...

  • _ _ _(DM)Hargreaves_ _ _

    (LCM)Carrick _ _ _ (RCM)Barry

    _ _ _ _(ATM)Cole_ _ _ _ _

I know it looks crazy, especially with Gerrard probably being the best box-to-box midfielder in the world but firstly, apart from not being able to play together, Gerrard and Lampard NEVER show club form when playing for their country. *Hargreaves is our best in that position. *Cole's natural position is behind the strikers.

*Barry and Carrick can ball-win and pass well, and never dissapear for their country.

  • barry is in top form and has been for seasons.. it's just unfortunate that reputation often wins out... lampard and gerrard together are terrible and yeh, they both fail to pull the same form for country as they do for club but i couldn't drop them both. maybe for a friendly, but in a competitive match i don't think you would want to drop gerrard, just his presence lifts a team. lampard not so much, they both are goal scoring midfielders, and you need that potential to pull out somethign special

  • hargreaves owns the defensive midfield position for sure, great player and very consistent. but if you placed cole as a centre attacking midfield, would you have any wingers? because neither carrick or barry boast huge amounts of pace to drop in crosses from the byline

it would be brilliant to see lennon perform as well, to have him and walcott on opposing wings, the sheer pace and creativity on the wing would give so many options for passing from the centre and more chances at goal from crosses

  • The width would come from the full backs. With an out-and-out holding midfielder in Hargreaves and two players infront with great defensive elements in their game (in particular Carrick, who for some reason is often considered a defensive midfielder), you could afford to give the full backs a more advanced role. In A.Cole we have one of the best attacking full backs in the world. Carrick, Cole and Rooney are the only England players that show any real technical creativity with the ball.

  • england fail to have any succesful right wing backs that match ashley cole. carragher can play right, but i wouldnt say he carries it quickly up the pitch, and yeh agreed that england do lack a bit of flamboyancy and creativity that south american nations all have. it doesnt really suit the english style of football, but it is a nice weapon to have if you are anywhere that requires some sort of playmaking. england will continue to hope that gerrard comes good for the nation, dw he will one day..

  • Richards and Johnson are the only 2 that come to mind. Very athletic, powerful and quick, and Johnson has got a great cross on him, he's probably been Portsmouth's best player this season.

With Rooney, Cole and Carrick, magic will happen. They are players that create time and space when they're on the ball. They're no Fabregas, Iniesta or Riquelmi, more Modric and Deco (recent times).

It's never gonna happen, but I'm lovin' that Capello prefers Berry over Lampard... the man's got balls!

  • damn straight

  • The next Cesc Fabregas. Even though Cesc is only 21!

  • yeah cesc is pretty young himself

  • he will much better this season koz he is on loan in a premier division spanish club

  • WoW... Fucking Future! Can't wait to see him grow up under Wenger...

  • yeh i know looks like a sick player, ive just signed him on soccermanager, YEEEESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!

  • Hahahhahaha... I hope u're good at that manager game and on Arsenal jersey! =P

  • He's on SoccerManager? Cool!

  • jeeeez jeeeez

  • englanish players aint just init for the money!! its just it takes a bigger deal for an english club to let their youngst'a go!! not like abroad were u can go and scout one offer him a house and car in england (and there all yours) just look at flamini (no loyalty just motivated by money, diarra the same all want more money when in truth 40-50 grand is enuff

  • ashley cole?

  • that 9 second video just sumed up the diffrence between class(internationl) and some one who has no class and has a poor attitiude & movitiaion (english player)

  • exactly u got it spot on. dis is y england isnt ever gonna win da world cup. dey havnt got players dis age wid a football brain and PASSION english just care about da money dey aint got passion. no one cant blame wenger 4 not signin as much english players. cos dere aint no gud youngsters apart 4rm WALCOTT and it even took wallcott time 2 settle in.

  • I'd bet on England winning "da world cup" before you learn how to spell. The odds on both are pretty long.

Merida is quality. Nasri isn't close to this kid.

  • 'da world cup' who really gives a shit if 'da' aint spelt 'the' shit 4 brains. get a life n stop reply'n talkin bullshit joeRyanFUCKIN33

  • his so the fucking FUTURE!!

  • he`s like a young fabregas with dribbling...

  • he's like a young van persie

  • diarra left you dweebs

  • "Yes we have extended his contract,"

"The reports I have from [his loan spell in] Spain are that he does well everytime he plays. Fran is very technical. He still needs to grow physically but football-wise there is no problem. He is an absolutely amazing player."

    - Arsene Wenger [Thursday, April 03, 2008]

  • i like merida but i wish Wenger could of got Gerardo bruna he is amazing and will be the new messi in a few years, we were too late liverpool have stole him now from real madrid.

  • but then merida is good too look at his skills and arsenal uses a lot of passing.........

  • merida is good i agree but bruna is similar to messi with blistering pace and dribbling skills, he would be much better suited to england than merida.

  • hey guys arsene wenger knows exactly what he is doing.he's waiting for the time to use fran, remember the case of flamini?and now,he is one of the most important players in arsenal, just like fabregas, walcolt, fran will have to patient bkoz wenger knows what is best for the team!don't be angry!lol!

  • Your not bein very realistic mate. first of all diarra's gone to portsmouth. fran is an attacking midfielder aswell, he doesnt come under the same category as those players. and he's only 17. who knows what he'll be like in a few years

  • Well i for myself think hes got the potencial to be a star player just like in Football manager 2007:$.I played it,he,Vela,Walcot and Denilson they becomed all star player's.I killed everyone with them lol after 2year's time

  • I don't think you can compare real football with Football Manager.

  • diarra might leave in january and gilberto will not saty for another 3 years he might leave to juventus which will leave denilson diaby and fran might get a starting role in the carling cup if diarra leaves

  • i don't think diarra will leave after that amazing performance with Blackburn in Carling...

  • haha

  • merida is only seventeen...by the time he reaches c.ronaldo`s age he will at least be of his value...i bet you everything...i`m his biggest fan :x soon boys will name their yahoo messenger id with his name...i already did that...

  • he got into the squad tonight and came on, granted as a late sub but he was there like he was earlier on in the year! so he both got into the squad and came on seemingly defeating your pointless shit arguement. thank you and goodnight! come on the young guns!!!!!1

  • Sorry, last night supports my point. He played 1 min against Newcastle and 3 mins against shefield united (the 3rd sub in a blowout cup game! - really shows his worth). Meanwhile, how many mins did the real bench midfield players play like diarra, diaby and denilson? 90mins apeice. Again how old is denilson? 19. Diaby is 20. Diarra is 22. Sorry, you have no point.

  • you really love him don't you?

  • thats bullshit the kid is only 17 and he's just signed a five year contract. give him some time you muppet

  • Even a muppet can see that with arsenal's cup overflowing at midfield with YOUNG midfielders, fran will be hard pressed to pick up regular playing time... unless he's willing to ride the bench for like 5 to 6 years.

  • 5-6 years! we have three players that all play in the same position and role. Fabregas, Denislon and Fran merida. Rosicky, Helb, Walcot, and eboue all play on the wings. Gilberto Flamini, diarra, and possibly all play defensive roles with Diaby playing both. You need a good depth in a squad to win cups and he's showed this intention by signing a new deal.

  • Diarra who just came from chelsea is a YOUNG (22yrs)french international, yet he's DEEP in the bench. Fabregas is only 20. Diaby is only 20. Denilson is only 20. Fran is BEHIND diarra, diaby & denilson - who are still on the bench!. Pray, when will Fran get his chance? 5 to 6 yrs is a conservative estimate!!! He likely will be loaned and then sold. He can't even make the squad for the carling cup games. Unless some of those kids are sold, Fran realistically has not future at arsenal.

  • bullshit.djourou wasnt sold .hes coming bak in january.Wenger wanted him him to get expirience cos hes goonna be playing regular centre bak wen toure goes to africun cup

  • great skill

  • yeh . .. reserves

  • FRAN-tastic!

  • super fran
