@proslade Actually I have. I'm a HUGE Slade fan, but I think they have different feels to them. Slade's version is more modern with its guitar, and more masculine, while Janis Joplin's original is more relaxed and more feminine. I don't think either is better than the other.
@Epic0Studios O.K. FAIR enough and yeah it s a matter of taste!!! Of course this is the original, but that Slade, WHAT a live band they were, simply the best.
@Epic0Studios I am jealous that you have seen them live..........cheers. I just the sound of their version of this song is better, less flaws. Bloody brilliant, one in a generation (or lifetime) band. I like their 'softer' stuff too. These guys could do anything, any syle.
Winehouse didn't have the fukin talent janice had in one hand that doesn't mean she deserved to die, plus the fact back in those days it wasn't a accepted thing being a druggy i know i was one today just check into rehab if ya got money yur set.
@rbkpetroleo Definitely similar, both Janis and Amy, in their troubled lives. And listening again to Amy, I can see how Janis must have inspired her. I think Amy was a gifted and unique artist, but she was luckier to have lived in a time where strong and ballsy female vocalists were accepted. Janis had to fight every inch of the way.
@rokedetbamidbar What hard times those were! However, fortunately for me, the Woodstock Festival was a great window to meet her, listen to her and stay in our hearts forever.
@ana04041990 For all the tales of her being a drugged out junkie, she seems to be pretty darn in control of her performance. Sort of like when the Canadian snowboarder won gold at the Olympics years ago, then had his medal taken away b/c he tested positive for weed... my thought is if he can command that performance, and be stoned, he should get two medals. Likewise I'm even more in awe of her if she was completely blotto. So yes, I'm curious but no - ultimately - it doesn't matter.
She was THE ONE, when I was young. She and Jimi Hendrix and Santana and Bob Dylan. Long years ago. Today, our childs and grandchilds like another kind of music. That's ok, because each generation has to find it's own style. For me: Janis IS THE MUSIC. Hopefulliy my children and grandchilds will find their way to GOOD music
My first album at 6 YO was Janis Joplin Pearl.......Pretty much influenced all other choices in music...... Not much compares for Soul or passion......
My first album at 6 YO was Janis Joplin Pearl.......Pretty much influenced all other choices in music...... Not much compares for Soul or passion......
Outward beauty is skin deep and means nothing. True sexiness comes from inside, from the soul, and that Janis has in spades. Her voice, the way she moves, the passion she puts into her singing is incredible. I would so just want to look at her for hours. She is absolutely fascinating. Here's to hanging with you in the after life, sexy mama.
If I'm not mistaken this was a performance on the Dick Cavett Show. Dick Cavett had a crush on Janis, which I think is funny. Anyway in the interview segment she was really funny. Like a comedian. You have to check but they might have the interview portion on here somewhere.
All I know is that I LOVE Janis and anybody that doesn't is probably too young to know what it meant to be a singer/front-person before technology could make ANYBODY sound good.
@ SmokinMo I agree. She gets called homely a lot, but if you actually look at her face she had beautiful eyes and was most definitely cute as could be.
@kellybstar Everything about her just over-whelms me.I saw pics of her all dolled up & she was beautiful. She never thought she was pretty, but she was..& very sexy.My fav pic of her is the nude pic.Her body was in perfect shape, but her beauty shown the brightest when she was on-stage makeing us happy. She was a beautiful & careing soul- yet so sad.Janis was sensitive. All it took was 1 ugly comment from a jerk & it cut her soul like a knife. The older we get,The more we love- desire & cry for her.
ok im 17 and i liver her music and jimi the animals iron butterflys and anyonne who played at woodstock sometimes i think i was born in the wrong period of time
I think she as beautiful as a woman can be...beauty is far more than what we see with our eyes, she embraces all that she is and that is true beauty...
Yes, she was pretty by her own way. And she was musical genius. She is that green light what recedes before us. Som we must beat on, boats agains the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past...
I guess it's quite stupid to wish death to alive people, even if some of them are talentless... but anyway, can someone tell when she made this performance? Please!

@SmokinMo11 I think people thought that way about her back then because she was so raw and aggressive and unapologetic for her behavior. And it being the 60's and the times that were changing people had apparantly never seen a woman really behave the way Janis did onstage, at least that's what everyone I know who was around back then tells me. Janis was a beautiful soul and I always thought she was a beautiful person both inside and out too..
@SmokinMo11 i agree, i think lady gaga is a right munter, joplin was raw and attractive without having to get her arse legs and tits out just to distract you from her use of antares software.
look at Beth hart, sexiest woman alive in music because she is a natural performer and doesnt need to get her twat photoed and published in tabloid newspapers.
@SmokinMo11 I completely agree!!! Why do we so often base our opinion of what beauty is on a couple of people!!! Anymore they are surgically altered beauties!!!! And if Janis is PLAIN I wanna know what you're using so I can leave it alone!!! LOL She was sweating her ass off to please our greedy asses! I bet my bottom $ Janis looks lovely in her wings while she sings with the ANGELS!! ROCK ON FOXY MAMA!!!
@SmokinMo11 I Don't know if she was ugly or beautiful, but I remember being terribly in love with her, kissing her photo (the one from Anthology) over my bed everyday when I woke up (I think this was happenning for about a year around my sixteen's)
Best natural talent (never had one voice lesson in her life) of all time, or certainly one of the tops. She is incredible. Zero makeup zero stupid outrageous costumes zero stupid things to get noticed in tabloids like scandals and magazines she was so REAL so genuine so her own self and man she knew REAL MUSIC, her music reflected how real she was wow what a soul and this was back in the day before there was nice recording/music industry technology so you know its raw talent its/shes THAT good
Over there we did listen to her, and Hendrix and Morrison. She was beautiful. She will always be beautiful. Today, those like Lady Gaga and that nuisance, Madonna, have to show their tits and asses to be noticed, or wear outrageous costumes. That's what branding and turning people into commodities have done to you. All Janis had to do was sing.
A singer...a guitarist...a drummer...a bass player etc...ultimately a band and even more to the point...and most forgotten bottom line...the song...this is art...i repeat...musicians create ART...there is no such thing as THE best or the worst. An artist paints with what they have and then so what they create appeals to the person that can relate and appreciate it for what it is. An average 5 year old listens to what an adult would consider crap and silly but it means the world to that child.
@odstassault But there are things that are crap by any decent standard. Consider the upcoming Iron Maiden album for instance. Sometimes the artists themselves are totally uninspired and are not putting anything into their creation themselves.
If people actually listen to lyrics like "...get it while you can...", she's talking about LOVE, NOT drugs.
A doctor that administered to her in San Fran as she was too high or having a bad trip, was asked by Tom Brokaw in a documentary revisiting that city and that time, if drugs were so essential to that "scene". He scowled and said no, she and so many others suffered and ultimately died.
lady gaga es mierda comparado a esto !!!!!!! lady gaga is shit compares at this !!!!!!!! janis la mejor de todas.... janis rules...the best forever and ever

@SmokinMo11 I Don't know if she was ugly or beautiful, but I remember being terribly in love with her, kissing her photo (the one from Anthology) over my bed everyday when I woke up (I think this was happenning for about a year around my sixteen's)

@SmokinMo11 I know, right? I think Janis is one of the most beautiful women ever. Plus her music is great and she's so upbeat and fun.

JANIS JANIS JANIS TE AMOO!!! ESPERO ENCONTRARME CONTIGO.. ALGÚN DÍA!
phoebehalliwell8989 1 year ago
Over there we did listen to her, and Hendrix and Morrison. She was beautiful. She will always be beautiful. Today, those like Lady Gaga and that nuisance, Madonna, have to show their tits and asses to be noticed, or wear outrageous costumes. That's what branding and turning people into commodities have done to you. All Janis had to do was sing.

SHE IS UNIQUE!!!! SHE DO IS AN ARTIST!!!!
palmeralatina 1 year ago
A singer...a guitarist...a drummer...a bass player etc...ultimately a band and even more to the point...and most forgotten bottom line...the song...this is art...i repeat...musicians create ART...there is no such thing as THE best or the worst. An artist paints with what they have and then so what they create appeals to the person that can relate and appreciate it for what it is. An average 5 year old listens to what an adult would consider crap and silly but it means the world to that child.
odstassault 1 year ago

So much for romanticizing the past......
tizianoscott 1 year ago
Wow!!!!
I think this is a true live performance...doesn't appear lip-synced.
Love the Late Great Janis.
She passed away when I was 13, and couldn't quite understand why my 15 yr old brother liked someone with such such a "scratchy" voice.
That viewpoint didn't last very long!
