Also "Half assed Matrix meets all the ideas from the original Tron". How unfair can you be? The original Tron being what it is is already dealing with the same ideas that the Matrix was dealing with. And Christy (sp?) and everybody why? Why oh fucking why is it that when we see a scifi flying vehicle battle is it automatically a ripoff of Star Wars? Does George Lucas have a monopoly on scifi battles now? Why? For all that you people hate George Lucas you sure do give him a lot of credit.
I really don't get the "Disney charm" thing. The reason the first movie got mixed reviews was BECAUSE it didn't have Disney charm. There was nothing Disney about it, and there's nothing Disney about this one. Like or hate it, I'm not even defending it, I'm just saying neither movie is typical Disney.
Okay..I don't get what is the point of you guys commenting about this movie. guess what? things change. It was one of the best movies I've seen in my life, like as if it was one of the things I wanted to do before I die. But no fun? Oh yeah thats right, you guys are old and conservative, you people don't adapt to the new things that we youths do.You fucking relating this movie to the matrix? ALOT of movies have some matrix look-alike scenes, but none of us are complaining, its cool that way.
Fuck that, Tron Legacy was awesome. Great music, slick look and decent plot. Jeff Bridges has so much charisma. The movie honours the fans of the original, calling back to all kinds of things from the original. But Legacy goes a little deeper, and a little more serious, the way Empire is more serious than A New Hope. And it felt like a full 3 act movie, leaving me satisfied. I give this movie 2 thumbs up!
Im with Ben on this one. I watched it with friends who liked it. Trying to convince them of reasons why it was so bad was impossible. I wish I had this come to mind when debating with them.
My complaint is that this movie was based on 80's computer graphics. They were cutting edge at the time of the original but why keep them in the new? This movie had to keep from updating its self. Why couldn't the world of Tron evolve? I think the answer is that the original story didn't have a foundation or a newer fan base to build an entire new movie around it, so they had keep the original effects to snag the old fans. Why didn't they just update the effects and re-release the original?
I thought the main film should have been cut. The acting was fine. Young Jeff Bridges made me mark out hard. I don't see these Matrix and Tron Legacy comparisons. I'm a fan of the original film. This was a good closing to the story. 7/10
@TekLok i saw the movie you cunt cock bastard dick face.. im just saying they dont know how to make a decent review .. go suck a bag of dicks carbet bagging homo pussy
I want to see this, but I want to see the original movie first too. also, @DannyEmbry Technically Christie said "having sex" not Ben...he started the joke, she finished it. And he was obviously being sarcastic.
I think these guys saw a different movie than I did. Over at AICN they have a really good breakdown of it. I wish these guys would read the AICN analysis and then re-visit it. For people who are supposedly deep thinkers, they seemed to have missed the entire point.
I loved Legacy. So I disagree with this review. But the only thing I agree with is that the movie brought up a lot of points that they didn't explain enough and make it part of the movie enough. The ISO plot had the potential to set this movie way apart from the Matrix. The whole ISO plot had potential to blatantly have commentary on creationism vs. evolution. And it feels like the movie started on it, and then said, no, the audience will get bored with that, let's keep it simple.
Wait, your favorite part of the movie was the nightclub scene with Michael Sheen? Are you fricking off your nut?! The was the lone cringeworthy part of the film.
Midle guy I hate you (I know hates a strong word) but I hate you hate hate hate I saw the first one I know I wasnt born when the first on came out but I still saw it in theaters (one of those through back features) and I loved it I even bought it and it I wached it like every week for a year but the new movie it was just so much cooler and if you wanted the smart aleck Jeff bridges that you love what would you do if you had like 20 years to just think would you not have made progress?
ITA with WTF. The writers missed an opportunity to give TRON:L the philosophical resonance of a film like The Matrix.
I enjoyed it, but I think it would have improved the film if some of the ideas raised by the story had been explored further (e.g. cognitive emergence, predestination vs. free will, the nature of the human condition, passive resistance vs. fascism.)
The narrative possibilities within The Grid are virtually (!) endless, so I'm optimistic about sequels. Music was awesome, BTW.
Really? I thought it did way more than the Matrix with way less. The notion the writers attempted to explore was that of the rise of emergent processes within a closed system. Something people hope to accomplish with a large enough cellular automata system that is left to run for long enough one day.
I think WTF got way sidetracked and didn't really "get" the movie, but that's the beauty of it. They are a different generation than we are, reviewing this kind of stuff.
@unabomberman Yes, the emergent process manifested in the ISOs. But, consider the downtown/club scenes. We can assume Programs are given tasks that are akin to jobs (eg accounting in the original), but were they ever designed to have time off in a nightclub, or get drunk on a sidewalk, or mourn their derezzed brethren? The club scene gave us a glimpse of relationships that I wanted to know more about. Delving into the social dynamics shown in that scene would've formed the basis of a great film.
Yeah, a bunch of things could've been done in the film...BUT, one thing it didn't have was a "RAVE SCENE." Remember that?
What we can tell is that in the Grid, some weird stuff has been going on for a while. Hopefully we'll get to see more in the next film, now that Legacy has recouped its original budget. Hopefully that'll be the case.
@unabomberman I liked the film, I just wanted info about the differences in behavior & capabilities of Programs vs. ISOs. The ability to digitize matter/consciousness would have the power to change the world in & of itself e.g. healing disease by rewriting code, immortality via hard drive backup. How would ISOs change in the world in a way that was more profound than the concept of "entering the grid?" For me, the concepts on the periphery of the story were more interesting than the main plot.
Yeah, but they didn't. Seems to me they were more interesting in launching the franchise forward in the first installment. Hopefully we get some reverse-matrix shenanigans where the philosophy gets thicker and smarter the farther we go along, instead of just, well, 'thicker' for the sake of it.
All in all, I found the movie to be fairly honest: "Here Be Shiny Stuff Plus Good Background Story."
@unabomberman You make a good point about the Matrix sequels. In those films the writers' reach exceeded their grasp. I found the resolution of the story to be anticlimactic & emotionally unsatisfying. Great films should include allegory, symbolism, metaphor, emotional resonance & exploration of philosophical ideas, but not at the expense of the story or characters. I really enjoyed TRON:L, largely for the music & production design. And, like you, I think that the sequels have great potential.
this guy thinks their shouldnt have been the light bike or the disc throwing in the movie, becouse it was done allready in the 1981 movie ?? wtf ????? yea lets make starwars episode 3 and not put the light sabor sword in it, becouse light sabors were allready done in ep 2, this foo is dumb,, to not put the light bike in this movie or the disc, would have been a very bad move, this is fuckin TRON !!

9:41-9:43. THAT is how i wish the Audio was for the WHOLE video. sometimes the audio on these are just ridiculous. like The toy story 3 review has terrible audio.
Wow, what a totally asanine and inane review. You guys didn't really get the film at all, there is fun in the movie, a story line that is more than the sum of it's parts. It's not that convoluted at all. The film blends mythic elements with
techno-mystical aspects very well. This has a great human, father-son story with heart, and a great depiction of how human, emotional connectionm, and new life being born is more important that technological perfection.
No fun? Wow, I'm glad that I'm not you. Legacy was crazy-fun! I can't wait until the third film. I'm glad that their giving us the animated series to tide us over.
@TheSolitaryPoet crazy fun? hahahahaha one of dumbest movies ever. i want my two hours back...no plot at all, again one more conquer all the world shit, no characters, no story, dialogue is fucked up, every dangerous scene have fucking "smart sentence" in the middle of it....stupid hollywoodism...stop making retarded movies for 1 month or so....
Tron: Legacy, with its rubber ducky wardrobe. and black and white striped sets and vehicles was far easier to make than Avatar. Both suffered from use of the unecessary 3D, as do we always the extra 5 bucks. I myself made a set of worlds and characters that almost look like the Tron Legacy movie and game in just a few weeks. It was easy! So, I put it online to visit and chat with friends. I am so lost in it, my name is changing to Kelvin McFlinlay!
We're so sick of these 3D movies getting attention just because they're made in 3D. People want to see a real story line when they go to watch movies not a 3D extravaganza. Tron sucks.
The first "Tron" was a boring, convoluted mess. Anyone who was expecting the sequel to be anything but an equal flop obviously hasn't seen "The Matrix", "Reboot" or any of the dozens of other movies/TV shows that have done everything "Tron" did, but better. The sequel has come 20 years too late.
@92Disturbed I don't dislike Ben as some personality. He says some fucked up shit sometimes and some really stupid shit sometimes.. It's just how it is..
@92Disturbed i'm no expert but i think it's cuz of his douchey passive agressive humor that u allude to...Ben jokes no one saw the original tron cuz they were gettin laid? could u dig any deeper in the barrel of lame jokes?
It took exactly 1 min in to actually start the review, I dont care about how liberating it is to curse, your turning 40 crisis, or your skin, give us the damn review....unprofessional....
@Mazsimiliian I agree, she looked extremely beautiful in the movie. Have you ever seen her (Beau Garrett) in any other films/TV? She's a beautiful woman, but is..um..kinda "bland" under normal lighting & with more naturalistic makeup. I was taken aback by just how well the TRON look suited her - esp. her eyes & bone structure. (Worth a search for before & after pics.) Given the potential for such dramatic improvement, I suspect the "TRON look" will be popular amongst teens next Halloween, LOL.
I feel the movie is to si-fi what indiana jones is to action movies....I loved it ,even if it had every cliche in the book , it was just plain fun. Daft punk+Skin tight leather suited chicks+every cliche of sifi = AMAZING!
I feel the movie is to si-fi what indiana jones is to action movies....loved it even it had every cliche in the book , it was just plain fun. Daft punk+Skin tight leather suits for chicks+every cliche of sifi = AMAZING!
The ending was bullshit tho, It makes the whole point of the movie moot. and bullshit that the orignal Jeff Bridges character was trpped for that long, then pull that bullshit.
Clu is the best part of the movie, HE is the only one with true character, a conflict within himself and his programmer. CLU IS THE BEST PART OF THIS MOVIE for me. He is a strong villian, and I hope he is in the sequel. Also this movie is kind of half-assed.
Most of the time these people annoy me yet I keep watching these stinking reviews. I loved it. I'm a fan of the original. And that's all that matters to me. >.>
I paid 9 bucks to see it in 3D and I seriously want my money back. Except for Michael Sheen and Daft Punk it was a total waste of time and money. They could have at least cast a leading guy who can carry an action-y/sci-fi movie, like Sam Worthington did in Avatar. This guy really dragged! And speaking of lame 80s and early 90s slang, Jeff Bridges' "Dude"s and "Man"s made me want to totally pull my hair out, even if it did make sense w/in the context of the film.
They repeated a lot of stuff from the original because a lot of younger people haven't seen the original and it's hard to find. It's not even available on netflix.
I still say these films are made to show only white males are worthy of power. Its mixed with philosophical, path of the hero, pseudo sophisticated language but you never see non-white Americans cast in big-budget sci fi.
The Matrix and Avatar already did it to perfection.
@131gB Well if you cast a Will Smith,Don Cheadle,Derek Luke,Terry Crews,Russel Wong and Sanaa Lathan in a film together in a big budget film that would be refreshing.
So I saw the film and I have to say that it was pretty mediocre at best, with an uninteresting story. Granted, it's going to make for one hell of a blueray "show off" disc but nothing else. If people are going into this expecting to be blown away as they were in say Avatar then they're going to be extremely disappointed! All in all this was just okay and nothing much to right home about. It's a shame because this could have been an instant classic, such as the Matrix, Avatar, or Dark Knight.
What a lost opportunity. We need to bring back the arts. It seems everything has gone so slick and superficial that we don't know how to do substance anymore. It's like the soul has been sucked out of almost everything and everyone.
@TheGiantRobot "It seems everything has gone so slick and superficial that we don't know how to do substance anymore. It's like the soul has been sucked out of almost everything and everyone."
I loved this movie, it looked amazing, and i think the music made it but i knew it was goin to get low scores, as i watched it i thought this isn't going to do good with the critics even though i was really into it, its worth seeing in my opinion but you wont kill yourself if you miss it
We can actually lip-sync digital images near flawlessly already, as seen in the upcoming game LA Noir, the reason Tron failed in this aspect is cos they were using dot-based motion capture, as opposed to horizontal lines stretching across the face. The lines capture lip formations almost perfectly, and I hope no idea why Tron didn't do this.
It is a long Daft Punk music video like Discovery

I liked the 1st movie better but here's a few points
Q._Another light Cycle chase. A._H*ll yes, I've waited 28yrs for a better version. You mind as well compare it 8mm BnW film to 70mm color Panavsion.
Q._Whats with all the neon. A._They were emulating the 1st movie which had the charictors made of light.
Q._Too many frisbe disks. A._Each [Program] has to have an identity disk.
Q._The FX are almost believable. A._Kidding? they're in a computer, CLU looked good enough for a young Jeff Bridges.

9.3 amazing movie. Not a Legend however there was so much mysticism and no mistakes you cant leave this movie disappointed.

@TheSolitaryPoet crazy fun? hahahahaha one of dumbest movies ever. i want my two hours back...no plot at all, again one more conquer all the world shit, no characters, no story, dialogue is fucked up, every dangerous scene have fucking "smart sentence" in the middle of it....stupid hollywoodism...stop making retarded movies for 1 month or so....
choodomoodo 11 months ago
Tron: Legacy, with its rubber ducky wardrobe. and black and white striped sets and vehicles was far easier to make than Avatar. Both suffered from use of the unecessary 3D, as do we always the extra 5 bucks. I myself made a set of worlds and characters that almost look like the Tron Legacy movie and game in just a few weeks. It was easy! So, I put it online to visit and chat with friends. I am so lost in it, my name is changing to Kelvin McFlinlay!
CJMcKinlay 1 year ago
We're so sick of these 3D movies getting attention just because they're made in 3D. People want to see a real story line when they go to watch movies not a 3D extravaganza. Tron sucks.

huh typical critics trying to be interesting -_-
the movie was good .....but it was the 3D that was carrying this film. The characters where dry.

I'm sorry, but Wilde just didn't do it. The girl playing Gem on the other hand could have carried the entire movie by herself.
Mazsimiliian 1 year ago
@Mazsimiliian I agree, she looked extremely beautiful in the movie. Have you ever seen her (Beau Garrett) in any other films/TV? She's a beautiful woman, but is..um..kinda "bland" under normal lighting & with more naturalistic makeup. I was taken aback by just how well the TRON look suited her - esp. her eyes & bone structure. (Worth a search for before & after pics.) Given the potential for such dramatic improvement, I suspect the "TRON look" will be popular amongst teens next Halloween, LOL.

CLU FTW
TheCoolComplexity 1 year ago
Clu is the best part of the movie, HE is the only one with true character, a conflict within himself and his programmer. CLU IS THE BEST PART OF THIS MOVIE for me. He is a strong villian, and I hope he is in the sequel. Also this movie is kind of half-assed.

ArtemisMS 1 year ago
They repeated a lot of stuff from the original because a lot of younger people haven't seen the original and it's hard to find. It's not even available on netflix.

I still say these films are made to show only white males are worthy of power. Its mixed with philosophical, path of the hero, pseudo sophisticated language but you never see non-white Americans cast in big-budget sci fi.
The Matrix and Avatar already did it to perfection.

enkeksinickia 1 year ago
So I saw the film and I have to say that it was pretty mediocre at best, with an uninteresting story. Granted, it's going to make for one hell of a blueray "show off" disc but nothing else. If people are going into this expecting to be blown away as they were in say Avatar then they're going to be extremely disappointed! All in all this was just okay and nothing much to right home about. It's a shame because this could have been an instant classic, such as the Matrix, Avatar, or Dark Knight.

Jwig1988 1 year ago
We can actually lip-sync digital images near flawlessly already, as seen in the upcoming game LA Noir, the reason Tron failed in this aspect is cos they were using dot-based motion capture, as opposed to horizontal lines stretching across the face. The lines capture lip formations almost perfectly, and I hope no idea why Tron didn't do this.
