i've been abused by an ex in everyway possible, molested, been on and off drugs, im a girl who can truely say i've been through it all, gang violence included, raped as well, my parents my dad got sent to prison when i was 2 my mom abandoned me when i was two, thank god for my grams on adopting me.
As nice as it is to fantasize about the idea of licensing the ability to have a child, it's totally unenforceable in reality, sad to say. What we really need is to stop assuming that people just somehow automatically know how to be in a loving, equal relationship with another adult and how to raise any children that might come of said relationship. People need to -learn- these things. Which is precisely why so many of them SUCK at them.
no morons can not have children.. having kids take s a lot... they r special and so fragile i c people that have kids that should have never been able to have kids or just don't grasp the concept of having something to love and take care...they r heart and soul man u have to be in to it 100% a moron is the type of people that do this messed up crap to children that is what this song is about EFN MORON
i never claim to have been abused and i know people that went through more hell than what i went through as well as hate when people claim they are abused when they are not. only thing i could ever do for anyone that gets abused is teach them how to defend themselves not just suck it up but to fight back and for those that can't i try to be there for them but it pisses me off when someone takes somebody elses stories and twists them so people think they are abused and i can name names.
Fenix521, not many will know what your speeking of, however it is my favorite movie, so i will comment and say, absolutely amazing movie, and great song. Glad someone knows the classics.
in africa and many places child rape is normaL or as they say a religious sacrament. its scary to know it happens out there. that they say a virgin can cleanse you of sickness. but really they just pass sickness on . and spread it. :(
@andrielianeify It keeps the cycle alive is all it does. The "excuse" of it being a ritual just gives "The Clan" a reason to keep on doing it generation after generation... and F'ing up more and more people.
I love this song and its meaning. It happens all the time, children being abused. I was a victim. For us men, it's more difficult to openly talk about what happened to us. I write stories that help me through the dark days of my childhood.
I was on The People's Court recently over a manuscript that I had written. The video is posted here. Type in The People's Court. Telling Quite A Story. You'll see my case. The book, Silence Speaks will be released Summer 2012.
I like this song because it sounds good. I was beat as a kid, but it definitely did not effect me, I have never really fallen for that shit. Humans are strong, we adapt, we survive.
@joshrocks11 i agree, i had a crappy childhood but i nvr used it for an excuse i used as an example to myself as to what i dont want to be my parents.

@joshrocks11 There is a difference between "beat" and what some children go through. The children who are beaten for their parent's or parents' sexual pleasure, molested, neglected, etc. never really end up right.
@PolitcalIslam Yeah, sexual molestation is probably worse, I agree. I know people who have been molested though and live fairly normal lives. But I remember being beat when I was four, and I know people who have had that too who turned out much worse then the ones molested.
But generally speaking, molestation is clearly worse. Especially if it is the same age.
I love this song. I can see me in this song. I was sexually and mentally abused. I am 46 y/o and I steal have problems dealing with what happened to me, but with Gods grace and the people that love me I survive. The wounds are so deep, and I hope I and all the other children and adults that suffered abuse will find peace in our lives someday.
This song is very strong and powerful, and I thank Pat Benatar for the voice she gave to all of us wounded children.
@RavenS0ul13 Agreed...it makes me so mad to hear how some parents treat their own flesh and blood like trash when I know couples that are unable to have children and suffer as a result
Having a crappy childhood is NOT an excuse to abuse your kids! Taking your anger out on them doesn't punish your abuser. It isn't enough to be a better parent then your parents were aim higher then that! Most abused children do not become abusers I will NEVER treat my children the way I have been treated!

i lived a life of hell as a child took from my real mom placed in homes and it was always hell beat on slaved by the age 13 i had to much and hit the streets liveing on my own .now i look back at those days and wonder how im still alive
I could never understand why my mother was so abusive to me and hated me my whole life...I found out she was abused as a child and decided to take it out on me. I LOVE my kids unconditionally...
Hell is when you were malested for 4 years and have nightmares to this day about and was also abused in others way by your really father. Hell is when you had the worst child hood that anyone could imagine. Hell is watching your Step-mother try to sell you for dope. Thats Hell for me and always will be.
Hell is screaming in the middle of then night and your daddy tells you it was just a nightmare! hell is having your leg broke in three places and still having to walk on it so no one notices. Hell is when your boyfriend passes you around his friends. Hell is over! and I am stronger now!
I'm 17 years old, and I was sexually and mentally abused by my Stepdad when I was 13. I've recently come out about my situation to my boyfriend, I'm glad I'm seeing help at such a young age. I've never talked about it before, I never realized it was all so bad. I'm moving out, seeing a Councillor and getting my life back on track. It's all very difficult for me at the moment, but I have my boyfriend, my friends, and this song to help me get through it.
@TheEpicMusicChannel I know what it's like. My step-dad also abused me when I was younger, but I was like 9-10 at the time. I'm 20 years now and it took my current boyfriend to get me to really open up and get over it. I am glad you're getting help at such a young age! Good for you. I hope everything works out for you.
Also, keep in mind that you are a much better, stronger person than your stepdad could ever hope to be. That knowledge, although simple, really helped me a lot.
@TheEpicMusicChannel *hugs* Bless your heart young lady. My heart breaks for you and all the abused children out there...please know that you are wonderful, and there is love out there! Go find it, find those of us who will love you unconditionally, and never raise a hand to you. From a humble father that cherishes his wife and his son...God bless you all =)
@TheEpicMusicChannel i'm 18, i was sexually, mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually abused for a good portion of my life. after all of that i'm getting back on my track, but i still have some habits from before
@TheEpicMusicChannel YOU GO GIRL!!!! BEEN IN YOU'RE SITUATION AND YOU WILL SURVIVE, LET WHAT DOES NOT KILL YOU MAKE YOU STRONGER AND USE THAT STRENGTH TO MOVE ON !!! ALL THE BEST TO YOU AND A BIG HUG AS WELL!!!! YOU WILL BE JUST FINE!!!!
@TheEpicMusicChannel I hope your stepMONSTER is in jail never to see daylight again. HELL IS FOR HIM. I am so sorry that your innoncence, trust, and love was taken away at such a young age by a PREDATOR. I'm glad that you are seeking outside help. Never forget that what happened was in no way your fault. Good luck with all of your future adventures and journey's. God Bless You!!! Take care. :-)
I'm sorry 4 what happen 2 u at that age, Im 18 and i had suffer from emotionally and pyhically abuse, and i hope ur step-father rots in jail 4 what he did 2 u, no man should touch a child like that, be strong and happy. and be glad ur still alive some children dont make it through that abuse. i know ppl that killed them selevs 2 get rid of the pain
Emotionally abused children and those in hostile environments with "crazy" parents (for valid reasons) develop coping mechanisms and actually are very strong people.
I had a crayon ripped from my left hand and was made to write with the right ~ something that cruel ~ made life challenging enough ~ witnessing violence and inappropriate remarks spoken to me ~ were endured, too ~
I was never physically abused and there was music in the house.
Yep this hits home for me. I was abused physical, mental, emotional I still struggle. i still hold grudges and my abusers have been dead for over 14 yrs. I am still good for keeping secrets, and the phrase" take it to your grave." Now is that not messed up.
You all really need to get over yourselves. I'm sure no matter how you were raised...at this point you are able to make your own decisions, and have your own responsibilities. Get on with your lives.
@TheSickness6969 - That has to be about the stupidest thing I've ever heard. You have no idea the deep emotional damage caused by abuse from a parent. You sound like you're probably one of the abusers.
@TheSickness6969 Wow insensitive much? Lemme guess, you're one of those goody two shoes who had the perfect little life where nothing like this ever happened right? Well tough shit, its happening to this day and most likely will continue to happen if people don't speak up. So you are the one who needs to get the fuck over yourself and be a little more compassionate, well I don't know if that word is even in your damn vocabulary. I know about abuse so I can understand what they are feeling.
@TheSickness6969 Then you obviously arent in touch with all your emotions. :) How unhealthy... But honestly, your probably some twelve year old who has great parents and doesn't have a care in the world, and nothing better to do than to go around picking fights on youtube. Nobody thinks you're witty or clever. Just shove off, there is people who are scarred forever, don't come along and pretend to be all strong when that shit probably never even happened to you.
What? I have over 40 years of hangnails I have had to deal with! Not to mention the fact that every morning I have to wipe my butthole after taking a crap. Do you know how difficult that is to deal with? And then I have to get a bunch of slack from you people too? omfg....the horror......
hey i got 20 yrs of sexaully abuse and verbal im 33 yeah i know the words to this song mean i lived them look up S>I>A>yes it is a self help group. were not damage goods we know what kinda people to stay the hell away from its in your blood,to know those looks that anger and pain we know whats out there i also was in LD classes in school but i went and im a clinical medical asst. and if anyone in my hurts i look rite at them who me the lier you want help from i dont think so....../..
The beating are bad but I learned to disappear, the verbal abuse & living everyday in fear was the worst. The day they found out I had a learning disorder change, I became nothing to them. i went to college & got a degree, but to them I will always be damaged good
INSTEAD OF HATING ON PARENTS HATE THE ONE WHO MADE THEM THAT WAY. SOCIETY! IT HAS ALSO DID ALL IT COULD TO FUCK UP YOUR LIFE. SHOW SOCIETY HOW IT FEELS. GIVE EM HELL BACK.
@hudsondrummer NOPE. HATE THE MAN FOR EVERYTHING. THATS WHO DRIVES THE WORLD TO ALL MANNER OF SOCIAL PERVISION. THEY DO WHAT THEY PLEASE/TO HELL WITH CONSEQUENCES. THE ONES RIDING THE CORPORATE COAT-TAIL.
Love the song. Thanks for posting. Many of us identify with it. Some worst than others. With all the instant recording and picture taking devices out there today in the home, I wonder if child abuse will be lessened much. Sad it happens. We all have our own personal child living in hell upbringing. Again, great song. Thanks.
My child just came back from a weekend with dad with bruises . .and it made me sick to see that . And yes I turned him in also got a VPO for my child ..
honestly physical abuse is no where as bad as mental abuse that will fuck you up for life you cant just surgery or a cast or painkillers to make it go away either way alot of kids end up getting abused one way or another and its a sad thing because their innocence and purity is stripped from them and there left to face the world as it is at such a young age
I'm sorry for all that have been abused, trust me when i say your are not alone, although it may feel like it. what I did was pick a genuinly kind person that I've never talked to in school and pored my heart out to them. I ended up marrying him two years ago.
My molester has had a couple of strokes, is crippled in a wheelchair, etc... he says he remembers nothing from that time. And me shooting him the foot was an accident... Listen, I talked to him and I made him feel good about himself... It empowered me and made me feel christ-like, even as I am a Satanist.
However, his weekend, drunken calls are a bit much, and strain my xitian charity, as I have none. He found me on the internet, FUCK! I hate this surveilience state we live in...
@AspergirlSithstress Not intentionally, but that's how I always saw it, My friend has a Son named OZZY who is actually HELL SPAWN, you'd see if you knew and met him
I was sexually abused when I was 5 by my step grandfather, and it continued for 7 years. I'd be minding my own business, and he would try to do disgusting things to me. I finally took a stand and told everyone, and they started an investigation on him. No one did anything, and he sits in his chair to this very day, living a normal life. What's really sick is that he blamed it all on me. He told everyone "She asked for it." No child should have to go through this. I am 16 today, btw.
@jewel11 no child asks for this or deserves this, If the people around you won't help . Find people that will help you heal and care about you the way you should be.
@OmegaDemon343 Hey man it's the pain we endure that shape us into strong individuals in the long run, those who seem to have it easy really don't, because you have the "pampered" ones and then you have those who struggle through the abuse thrown at them on a daily basis, if it came down to survival of the strongest, those who've suffered would make it out alive, because the "pampered" ones had everything handed to them never having to earn it, unlike the ones who have it rough, ironic fate it is
@OmegaDemon343 Yep! I agree! It was the same for me. I got it the worst from the kids at school, but at the time it seemed like Mom gave it to me nearly as bad as they did!
no hell is when u r sexualy abused and when u r an adult it ruins your whole sex life and then it puts a strain on ur marriage because u really dont want anything to do with your hubby. ( no I wasnt abused by neither of my parents) but I was always scared to tell them for some stupid reason and to this day I do not know why i was afraid to say something.... mayb i said or did sumtin tat caused it but anyway tat what hell is and I cant wait til I die so i can 4 get about it cuz it always there :(
@corrina1 I'm a 61 year old man who was sexually abused by 3 neighborhood bullies at age 11 and drugged and raped at age 18. I understand what it does to you. PTSD is a terrible malady and I was only able to open up about it this last year after 40+ years of struggling with it. Neither of us wanted it, caused it or enjoyed it. I am now pursuing a degree in Criminal Law- get on a mission and give a voice to those who cannot speak.
This song was out well before child abuse was discussed. I've always loved how she sings it - with such meaning. Such a horrible subject - this song makes you think. Don't you hate to realize that it's true alot of the time.
This was one of the songs Tipper Gor and Al Gor rejected as "demonic" during the PMRC hearings during the 1980's. FUCK THEM! They may have had wonderful childhods but I sure didn't. Most of you didn't. It is nobodie's fault, it is something that happens... but FUCK THEM! They don't get it... you and I do... they can suck upon me. I liked Clinton but I always hated Gor, because of the PMRC hearings, initiated by his stooooopid wife, Tipper... Jus' sayin'
I too was abused as a child and this hits home but I too will not let it ruin my life but we must not hide it either. I refuse to be like my father and keep myself in check to make sure the abuse stopped with him.
@ThClFirestar Kudos to you..."stop the cycle" - yes it's said alot but it's true. Be proud of yourself for being so self-aware. Most of all remember - YOU did nothing wrong. I was there too and have made sure it stopped with me.
This is a great tune and very powerful one indeed. I just seen Pat Benatar at the B.B. Kings Place in New York. Her show was outstanding And she also played with a full band. The one song that really took me was that she dedicated this song to Kaylee Anthony this was abused and killed, my knees buckled.Who ever killed that inocent little girl will get whats comming to them. This isn't over by a long shot.
Hitting replay on this song! I LOVE PAT BENETAR! DAMN she can sing her booty off! Her strength, beauty, and kick ass attitude has been such a huge inspiration to me being a female singer! She has paved the way for female rock singer! I am in a pop/punk band called HEY YOU. If any of you PB fans would like to give it a try, we just put up a new video, and would love it if you would let us know what you think.... = )
This is but one of many reasons why all respect should be earned, no exceptions. Respect equals out to power and some people should not have even the power that comes from respect.
@mc5philly my mother dedicated this song to me and sang it everyday to me. she never let me forget that she hated me, she too beat me and also doesn't remember a thing- i know how you feel.
@mc5philly it happened to me too, and the courts refused to label it child abuse because they didnt have enough proof and i have to see him and stay at his house. It gave me ptsd and i have relapsed because he said he never aimed a loaded gun at me. Im so sorry you had to go through that
Pat wrote this song because she was abused herself..and btw, abused children DO NOT have to grow up to abuse their children...the secret is when you raise your hand to hit your kid, it is a conscience act, therefore, you know what you are doing, you have intent and you CAN stop it...so STOP!!! Walk away, count to 10, 20 or 50, then deal with the problem..but don't take it out on your kid...they are innocent; don't deflect your anger onto them and let's all stop the cycle of abuse..we are grown
@wtfomgrofllol319 beating kids is one thing. discipline is another. people have gotten soft and have created a generation of kids with oh so precious egos
@raiderrocker18 I have to totally agree, i'm 100% against beating kids, but it's a fact that people got too soft, and that's not good either, as we create a bunch of 'i cant be touched' kids with that. Sometimes there is too much discipline, other times too few. Can't we just do the middle between those two?
@wtfomgrofllol319 Pat did NOT write this because SHE was abused. She wrote this after reading an article about child abuse in America. She even talks about this in her book Between a Heart and a Rock Place.
i've been abused by an ex in everyway possible, molested, been on and off drugs, im a girl who can truely say i've been through it all, gang violence included, raped as well, my parents my dad got sent to prison when i was 2 my mom abandoned me when i was two, thank god for my grams on adopting me.

XohXmonXdieuX 4 months ago
Also, keep in mind that you are a much better, stronger person than your stepdad could ever hope to be. That knowledge, although simple, really helped me a lot.

Divorce can be a good thing.
Peace,
V

@TheSickness6969 Wow insensitive much? Lemme guess, you're one of those goody two shoes who had the perfect little life where nothing like this ever happened right? Well tough shit, its happening to this day and most likely will continue to happen if people don't speak up. So you are the one who needs to get the fuck over yourself and be a little more compassionate, well I don't know if that word is even in your damn vocabulary. I know about abuse so I can understand what they are feeling.

With all the instant recording and picture taking devices out there today in the home, I wonder if child abuse will be lessened much. Sad it happens. We all have our own personal child living in hell upbringing. Again, great song. Thanks.

However, his weekend, drunken calls are a bit much, and strain my xitian charity, as I have none. He found me on the internet, FUCK! I hate this surveilience state we live in...

OmegaDemon343 6 months ago 4
@OmegaDemon343 Hey man it's the pain we endure that shape us into strong individuals in the long run, those who seem to have it easy really don't, because you have the "pampered" ones and then you have those who struggle through the abuse thrown at them on a daily basis, if it came down to survival of the strongest, those who've suffered would make it out alive, because the "pampered" ones had everything handed to them never having to earn it, unlike the ones who have it rough, ironic fate it is

GiveMeMusic7477 6 months ago
@corrina1 I'm a 61 year old man who was sexually abused by 3 neighborhood bullies at age 11 and drugged and raped at age 18. I understand what it does to you. PTSD is a terrible malady and I was only able to open up about it this last year after 40+ years of struggling with it. Neither of us wanted it, caused it or enjoyed it. I am now pursuing a degree in Criminal Law- get on a mission and give a voice to those who cannot speak.

Jus' sayin'

squigglez567 7 months ago
Pat wrote this song because she was abused herself..and btw, abused children DO NOT have to grow up to abuse their children...the secret is when you raise your hand to hit your kid, it is a conscience act, therefore, you know what you are doing, you have intent and you CAN stop it...so STOP!!! Walk away, count to 10, 20 or 50, then deal with the problem..but don't take it out on your kid...they are innocent; don't deflect your anger onto them and let's all stop the cycle of abuse..we are grown
wtfomgrofllol319 7 months ago
@wtfomgrofllol319 beating kids is one thing. discipline is another. people have gotten soft and have created a generation of kids with oh so precious egos
raiderrocker18 7 months ago 3
@raiderrocker18 I have to totally agree, i'm 100% against beating kids, but it's a fact that people got too soft, and that's not good either, as we create a bunch of 'i cant be touched' kids with that. Sometimes there is too much discipline, other times too few. Can't we just do the middle between those two?
FallenSpiritFLU 7 months ago 3
@wtfomgrofllol319 Pat did NOT write this because SHE was abused. She wrote this after reading an article about child abuse in America. She even talks about this in her book Between a Heart and a Rock Place.
