Mark and his father Ray had a great combat routine with a spit and the 109 here at Wanaka New Zealand...very sad to know that they have both moved on...thanks for the memories.
In Sabadell (Barcelona, Spain), the reenactment pilot Mark Hanna died in accident while flying a Buchon, the spanish version of a german Messerschmitt Me-109. Aparently, the motor failed, and he tried to land, but crashed just before the runway. I was there and I saw as he fell on the foot of the track of the airport of sabadell :(
The BF-109 was a great fighter 1940-41. The P-51 with the Merlin, timely performance upgrades, Americas industrial might and extremely aggressive pilots was end for the Luftwaffe. Oh to have been a fighter pilot in those times....
Germany lost its airpower in the eastern front, which was pretty much larger scale warfare than in the west, in normandy 1944 the Germans pretty much had no airforce anymore.
Yeah stalkervision posted this a week ago, the dead give away is the exhaust stubs at the top of the cowling than at the bottom of the inverted daimler benz on a German engined 109, original 109's dont have a four blade prop either
Thanks for that fellas,I think I remember these versions now in the B of B film along with the Henkle 111s. It would be great to see a true 109 over here at Elvington,Yorkshire,uk.
The whistling sound on the 109 is the air being sucked into the supercharger at high velocity, the Spitfire also emmits this sound depending on speed, the higher the speed the noiser the sound, search YouTube for "jerry billing doing low passes in Spitfire mk923 " and you'll here the supercharger much better
You can hear that very distinct sound of the 109, that high pitched moan. On another note, the Panzers had a similar distinct sound, a hum of some kind that I heard used to scare the hell out of people because everyone knew what that sound was.

The Spitfire pilot is probably Rolf Meum from Lillestrøm Norway.
CroaqSS 1 year ago
@CroaqSS No, its not Meum. It was an English man. You can se him on the wing of the Messerschmitt, by the cocpit, behind Mark Hanna.
Kjellern150 1 year ago
@Kjellern150 Steven Grey, perhaps? He flew with Mark Hanna to Ambri (Switzerland) in September 1998

@aaKonda Thats just not true. The biggest air battles of the war took place on the Western Front through 1943-44.
The air war on the Eastern front was more at low level and in support of the ground forces.
In the West large forces of US and RAF planes fought with the German Luftwaffe, night and day and it was wiped out of its best personel in mid 1944.

Why do I love the sound of a Merlin V-12 so much? I don't know, but I must get a regular fix!

Beautiful engine and flying.

Oh, and to add to the fun "bouchon" means cork
or plug in french.

I would say that "dead givaway" is the air scoop under the nose of the spanish built bf109!Wich the real one does not have.

That 109 sounds like a Spit/Mustang what type of engine dose it have?
zucoy21z89 4 years ago
zucoy21z89
The 109 is a Spanish License built version called a "buchon" or pouter pigeon, it uses a Rolls Royce Merlin.
panzermacher 4 years ago 2
Daimler-Benz with Bosche fuel injectors, very technologically advanced for the time.
spritz0 4 years ago
This aircraft is a post-war Buchon built in Spain and it is powered by a RR Merlin.

Ok....but there is a different sound from this plane. Maybe propel sound? Not that sound from the Spitfire.

Ok, take a look at the clip of P51D Mustang Big Beautiful Doll at Rygge air show 2007. A wery special and cool sound on that plane.
