@Illumirage wow calm down, the Colbert Report is easily the funniest show on TV right now. I'm a big LD fan, but Colbert is at the top of his game right now. Now if he had compared LD to Dane Cook or Carlos Mencia, then you'd have the right to be that angry.
I'm angry? I could see if I were typing in all caps responding that way but...
Nah, Colbert has a liberal agenda, acting all foolish/ignorant as a stupid Conservative joke of a person to marginalize the right. That right there makes me lose all respect for him, he's no better than Stewart. Yes, I know LD isn't much better but impressionable young people don't often look to him for all of their political views...
@Illumirage You use the phrase "fucking ant" but you weren't peeved off at him? lol k bro
If it's a political issue fine, but comedically I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who can come close to him; LD is one of the few who do.
His aggrandizement of the right wouldn't be so bad if the right had their own equivalent of him. But they don't. Something about the right and comedy just don't mix, it's probably related to conservative's soul-crushing personalities.
I may or may not have been drinking when I wrote, 'fucking ant'. I don't remember.
I'd like to think there are conservative comedians....Dennis Miller comes to mind, there are probably others, I could google it but.
Soul-crushing? I'd call it more like common sense, but.
And you're right, Colbert can be funny, it's just I get a little tired of the constant conservative bashing over there on Comedy Central. As if Liberals are so much better. The crowds at those shows? Come on...
@Illumirage Yeah, Dennis Miller is also the only other openly conservative comedian I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure there's a few in the god-awful Blue Collar Comedy bullshit thing, beyond that idk.
lol "common sense" is debatable, the only thing they can claim common sense on is their philosophy of careful spending, which even they don't have a good record on. Closer to hypocrisy than anything else.
It's not a liberal bias, it's just funny people tend to be liberal.
Debatable maybe, I'm pretty sure I could give you a run for your money on that one. Listen I live in a sea of Liberals, I live in Minnesota. I've heard it all.
Do you know how hard it is to debate when 3-4 liberals are running their mouth to you at once? I'd like to think I can handle myself when it comes to politics.
No, funny people aren't ONLY liberal, Hollywood is Liberal, and if you aren't, you don't get the job/role, it's as simple as that. These people protect their own.

Fuck Chicago, Chicago gave us Obama, I'm forever soured on that city.

There's Larry David, Jerry Seinfeld, David Schwimmer, and Steven Colbert all in the same room! If you love laughing, you wouldn't survive the combination of their presences.
@Werebull no dude, omg you fools are fucking retarded. 0 internet savvy. When people use emoticons, HAHA, lol, etc, its in place of body language. @Werebull sometimes people type 'haha' on their comments to signify sarcasm, as in 'don't take this comment seriously'. there isn't really a good way to show sarcasm through text
Friends started off funny, and light-hearted. Then it became a primetime soap opera, they changed Chandler from the pathetic, brunt of everyones jokes to an emotional love interest. It just became too heavy, strayed WAY TOO FAR from it's roots. To say Friends is 'the best fucking show ever' shows the terrible taste you have in...well just about everything....
@Illumirage I agree. Seinfeld and Curb TOWER above Friends. Friends was nothing more than six people setting each other up for one-liners. Over and over again. There were times watching it when I correctly predicted the punch line of some of the jokes before I heard them! Seinfeld was true, artistic, hilarious writing ... pure genius. Friends was written for a bonehead mass audience, with anything edgy taken out in favor of bland, safe, predictable rubbish.
Finally someone who knows what the 'eff they're talking about.
I'm still kind of taken aback by how many times I'll run into some sort of mundane situation in my daily life and how it will relate to Seinfeld (and now Curb kind of). I know it's happened to you. Seinfeld was mass appeal to but done so really tastefully. I still watch those DVDs all the time.
@Illumirage that's spot on ! I've seen so many people who just rave about how great friends is and they haven't even watched seinfeld or CYU and haven't even heard of larry david. .damn ignorants !
@Illumirage I have to slightly disagree with you on the Friends comment. It wasn't ever funny and light-hearted, but i will agree that it started off. I don't really think anyone can argue that. The fact that someone actually posted Friends is the best fucking show ever, is just ridiculous. I actually moved to a state in the US where you can legally be put to death for saying that in public. God bless America!! I know that you know that Friends was moronic so I'm not busting your chops on that.
@coconut611 I don't need to disagree with you to get fucked, thanks very much. I still disagree with you though. Friends = bland, safe, predictable, watered-dwon 'humor', written with nothing both a bonehead mass audience and advertising potential in mind. Seinfeld and Curb were written for the sheer joy of writing by artistic geniuses. Maybe when you grow up, you'll appreciate real comedy.
@leizuoer wow really? Seinfeld&friends where run along the same story lines so saying that its better than friends or that its been "written for the sheer joy of writing by artistic geniuses" is a bit of an exaggeration, they where both really amazing shows whereas Curb is based on pure stupidity as your basically watching a show about him starting an argument with anything&everything that annoys him maybe when you shut the fuck up and watch you'll understand what pretty much everyone else does
@coconut611 It takes more writing skill for Larry David to set-up the scenes in Curb than to write an episode of Seinfeld. He has to write an outline so perfect that the ad-libbed dialogue, whatever it turns out to be, will fit the direction of the story. It's pure artistry at its best. Friends was the most predictable drivel I've ever seen. Friends acquired a preteen and young teen audience because of its lack of sophisticated writing.
You know if there is one person that laughs at their own jokes more than anyone you mentioned its Larry David. All of his stand up and he admits to making takes for his show progress way to long for he can't stop laughing at his own jokes.
@Werebull so you only laugh as a gesture? you never actually laugh for real, and you are a fucking psychopath? good to know. admittedly, laughing too much at your own jokes makes you look like a douche, but never laughing at your own jokes has to mean you're either dead inside or just following a script.
@Werebull ... yeah, but that's the mentally sound answer. Don't cha wanna tag along to the further reaches of pretentiousness? All I want to know is why we (admirers of SC or LD) find it so deeply appealing to see him/them break character. Their 'pretend self's' are so different in that way than Buster or Mr. Bean - like if those 2 broke character --wouldn't that be weird and unfunny, but we like it when meta-actors crack realm ? >urp<

Watched this for the 4th time now. Off-topic: Does anyone on TV laugh at their jokes more than Coal Burt? Save for Bob Saget. And is it coincidence that they look so alike on TV? But why is it funny and charming when Colbert does it? Is the cracking in the meta facade the key. Something to do with schadenfreude or what? Or what?
@FungusMossGnosis Also, they're both Tauruses... No, seriously now, Colbert laughs at his own jokes only as a result of breaking character - and that's what's funny I guess.
@FungusMossGnosis Well, it's funny for the breaking character thing. But I find it funny because (if doesn't over do it to make the audience laugh) it makes me feel like the joke was so funny that he couldn't hold character and the fact that he thinks it's that funny makes me laugh, too. Also, when you start watching a certain comedian for a while you get very familiar with with that it sometimes feels like you're with a friend and things like that ae more funny with friend.
Schwimmer should've saved him, by just moving onto the next line since it was similar and it involved the premise of a movie making more money being a flop than a success.
Curb is amazing. I'm from England and although Curb is huge in America - in England it is rigidly stuck in 'Cult' status; only people who are really into comedy or Seinfeld fans watch it in England. I am an avid watcher and have been since 2004. I hate it when English people slag off American comedy making out that British comedy is far better and more intellectual - American comedy is brilliant, same as English comedy. But Curb has got to be my favourite comedy ever (Except maybe the UK Office)
The Character limit prevented me to elaborate lol but yeah, big time. I really wish Alan Partridge kicks off in America. 'I'm Alan Partridge' and 'The Office' UK have so many laughs crammed inside each episode it is insane. I urge any Americans or anyone who hasn't seen or heard of it to watch it. He also recently did a Webisode series on Youtube about him presenting a radio station called 'Alan Partridge Mid Morning Matters'. Have a see-look at that too. 'Peep Show' is another....
Gervais is great, but I think Larry is brilliant. You can relate to everything he does, and he thinks of the dumbest things, but you're always on his side!
@danutcase66 Me and my friends are students from Birmingham and we adore this show. It's a shame it's not as popular as the rubbish shown on television, but it is nice to be able to talk and laugh about it knowing not all that many people around us will know what we're on about.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Whats with these idiots on the internet typing "haha" for every shitty comment of theirs? Its like the fake audience laughter tape. It not FUNNY if you type HAHA at your lines nor does it make you happy in life.
@karthikbing Yes that is one of the big problems in our society, right up there with the soaring crime rate and economic despair. Unfortunately the majority of Youtube users are never going to be conscious enough to think about how insignificant their commentary actually is. It's more comforting to jot down a frothy half-assed comment and laugh at it as you hope others would. AND THEN YOU GO WATCH SOME TV AND BECOME FURTHER BRAINWASHED TO CONSUME AND FORGET ABOUT THE PURSUIT OF KNOWLEDGE RAWR
Is "Haha" really worse than "Lol" or "Rofl" or whatever other tired, bullshit acronym?! I hate all of them, and wouldn't use them now if I wasn't at the end of my rope with this "Youtube community". And what gives with all this "Fail" nonsense? It's like everybody wants to talk like a goddamn robot now...'error!error!system fail!'. All you Robby Robot motherfuckers can roll over on the floor hahahaha as you're failing at comedy *and* communication.
Do you think I should lighten up and accept these memes and buzzwords as part of the 'music of conversation'? Because to me it sounds like recurring phrases in recent Michael Nyman, Glass or Adams. And to me, that ain't a good thing!
I like this clip, it's a shame more folks don't write something helpful, rather than this spurious repetition of quasi-expressions.
Damn bro, is it really that serious? The internet must be serious business. /sarcasm.
The internet itself is a community. with its own saying, lingos, and such. You don't like it, just skip it and move on. You're making yourself sound like a bitter man who hates technology and memes.
That sounds like a request for more - okay: in your fav movies list, you list the Coen's as "Coen Brothers" - why the capitol b, bro? That's not like their business name, is it (?), and they aren't the only brothers Coen, eh? Forget it.
You know, you weren't the first one to call out my cracked musings as Pretentious (I was, look a few posts down). We really should have a beer and watch some hoops together, and trade turns playing 'Shut It' at each other (The Damned style). Keen.
You looked pretty far back into the comments to find that to quibble with. Sure you aren't projecting just an eentsey weentsey bit talking about "getting a life"?
You went that far back, yet didn't bother to read what I wrote in sequence. If you had, it could have been obvious to you I was not being seriously "pretentious".
This isn't a reading contest, but I can't help noticing how useless your comment is, seeing as how you didn't bother reading what I wrote in context.
@FungusMossGnosis It's quite hard to follow these arguments properly, because they're not always nested. I suppose you can probably fix it so that they are, but I've never really figured that out. Anyway, if you weren't being serious, I apologise and intend to commit ritual suicide as soon as I've had lunch :)
This is me being serious now: I was likely too densely verbose to be clearly understood, except by the most dedicated no-life reader. My deliberately fatuous responses were intended to amuse. Mission Aborted. I will now walk off the plank and let the sharks devour me.
Colbert's acting is great. Check out his body language when David is suggesting the camera angle, plus his delivery of "YOU WILL FAIL" is hilarious. 2 Comedy titans.
Watch Colbert's wife each time he's "hexing" Larry. You can tell he's done it many times before by her expressions. She's like "Oh no, here we go again!"
I mentioned him because it's a weird mix. "Seinfeld" and "Friends" were the main competitors in the 90s and the two most successful sitcoms ever. So here, it's like they're colliding.
jerrys supposed to be his best friend..and for moral support you should stay there..but hes the first one that got up

Or what?
FungusMossGnosis 1 year ago
@FungusMossGnosis Also, they're both Tauruses... No, seriously now, Colbert laughs at his own jokes only as a result of breaking character - and that's what's funny I guess.

@FungusMossGnosis my hand smells like A1 steak sauce.

Jimmy Falon? Probably. I'd say he's an example of why it's bad to laugh at your own jokes. I have no hard and fast rule about it.

Two great comedians at the top of their game. Well, perhaps not Larry David, who was at the top with Seinfeld.

@danutcase66 totally agree - but don't forget alan partridge
knaan163 10 months ago
@knaan163

And what gives with all this "Fail" nonsense? It's like everybody wants to talk like a goddamn robot now...'error!error!system fail!'. All you Robby Robot motherfuckers can roll over on the floor hahahaha as you're failing at comedy *and* communication.

Autist? - Could be. What's it to ya?
Do you think I should lighten up and accept these memes and buzzwords as part of the 'music of conversation'? Because to me it sounds like recurring phrases in recent Michael Nyman, Glass or Adams. And to me, that ain't a good thing!
I like this clip, it's a shame more folks don't write something helpful, rather than this spurious repetition of quasi-expressions.

Damn bro, is it really that serious? The internet must be serious business. /sarcasm.
The internet itself is a community. with its own saying, lingos, and such. You don't like it, just skip it and move on. You're making yourself sound like a bitter man who hates technology and memes.
floeticdeath 1 year ago

That sounds like a request for more - okay: in your fav movies list, you list the Coen's as "Coen Brothers" - why the capitol b, bro? That's not like their business name, is it (?), and they aren't the only brothers Coen, eh? Forget it.
You know, you weren't the first one to call out my cracked musings as Pretentious (I was, look a few posts down). We really should have a beer and watch some hoops together, and trade turns playing 'Shut It' at each other (The Damned style). Keen.
FungusMossGnosis 1 year ago
@FungusMossGnosis you're arguing about whether 'brothers' should have a capital letter? ever felt like getting a life?
firestartertwistedfi 1 year ago
@firestartertwistedfi
FungusMossGnosis 1 year ago
@FungusMossGnosis It's quite hard to follow these arguments properly, because they're not always nested. I suppose you can probably fix it so that they are, but I've never really figured that out. Anyway, if you weren't being serious, I apologise and intend to commit ritual suicide as soon as I've had lunch :)

No harm done.
This is me being serious now: I was likely too densely verbose to be clearly understood, except by the most dedicated no-life reader. My deliberately fatuous responses were intended to amuse. Mission Aborted. I will now walk off the plank and let the sharks devour me.

Fuck David Schwimmer, I dunno why you mentioned him.

I mentioned him because it's a weird mix. "Seinfeld" and "Friends" were the main competitors in the 90s and the two most successful sitcoms ever. So here, it's like they're colliding.
