i already have these olympus 590uz.. it has very nice functions additional features... but the one big problem of this stuff is that it uses 4 AA bateries.... it consume lots of power.... if it only use battery pack... theres nothing worry about....... So if you dont want to use a old style AA battery... DONT BUY THIS STUFF...

In auto mode on tele, (quick shots), sucks !

Olympus and Fuji still use the XD format which is no better or worse than any other. Just that alot of computers dont have XD slots. Sony sticks with its memory stik duo and stuff. Each manufacturer has their own little trick to get a little more money out of ya.

Just got one of these today,, it is AWESOME. The super macro zoom is amazing. It can focus on things that are as close as 1/2 centimeter. Its great. The regular zoom is awesome... you can really get close even if you arent. the max pic resolution is awesome. I really really suggest it.  Keep in mind tho.. it uses the XD memory card instead of the SD, so now I have to run out and buy an XD card. I suggest Ni-Mi rechargeable batteries to save ya money. Great camera.

Yes. It does video very well. Does it in HD, 1080i. Its an amazing camera. The macro zoom and panorama settings are awesome and things like multiple fireworks and multiple pics on one frame are just way cool.

SP-590UZ only does VGA video = 640x480 not 1080i = 1920x1080

You are correct, partly. It only records in 640x480, however it can be hooked to an hd tv with a hdmi cord and playback in 1080i mode.

It does have sound but only if you lock the zoom, which is a bit of the bummer. I'm buying this camera in a couple days and as I understand, I think the zoom may actually work, but will not refocus.

26x zoom with dual image stabilization and an optical viewfinder. What is wrong with that? Ever try to take a picture at 26x with a camera without stabilization? You have to set the shutter speed so high you can only do it on very sunny days at a low f number that does not allow you to control depth of field.
