I just bought one 3 weeks ago. Fantastic ride and ZILLIONs of options. I had an option to buy the suv or 7 series, too many people own those cars. Tremendous power and comfort with a great ride. All wheel drive is a great bonus. Premium music system was my priority, stunning sound and easy to use MMI, still learning how to use the systems. Multiple cameras, I was able to park the car precisely in a very narrow spot just looking at the screen.
It runs beautifully as well. A slight hum of power can be heard and felt by the driver [with a trained ear. the ordinary wont notice it] it just feels like a great vehicle.
Honestly, I would really like to see this specific model hit Dakar or some sort of rally motor sport.
In video and pictures, people go "wtf?" to it, but in person it is actually very attractive in many ways. I had the chance to drive one at my valet job and it's damn gorgeous, really. It was only slightly taller than the 7, not as long as the Xs, comfortable driving position for with accessories view , this owner had it in black with black leather interior.
...actually, all the full size luxury sedans don't have good resale value. It has always been this way. Why? Because the people that typically can afford these cars don't buy them used anyway - they buy them new. The mid sized and compact sized are the segments that hold their value the most.
I ssen one 2day on the Grand Central Parkway and literally fell in love, this car looks so much better in person than it does in print,I think this will be my next vehicle purchase...
This blows away all other 5 series that BMW have come out with. The other 5 series look to round and the lights look goofy but this is in line with the 7 series style of noticeable straight edges exacggerated jumbo size grill and the big width and depth of the body. I thought it was 7 series when i saw it on the street and then was surprised to find thats its a 5 series
whats the point of this vehicle. Like they got lucky that the x6, well in my opinion its nice. But what the hell is this thing, they are getting out of control with their styling. The shudve just made the 550i with a 4.4 twin turbo, it would be a shit ton better than this
i saw this for my first time today, and I was startled. First of all, because I didn't know it had went to production yet (it was a concept car for like 2 months ago), and second, because I live in a random little town in Norway, where everyone drives old Toyotas. Never the less, there is actually a Porsche Carrera GT here! :P
Classic style? This is as far away from classically styled BMWs as you can get aside from the new 7. Thought I would love the power comfort and ride of that car I will take the styling of my e38 740iL any day.
I think that car would be truly awesome if the back end did not look so awful. The rest of the car looks quite good.
Couldn't agree more. In my opinion e38 it's the most styled bmw ever made. Can you tell me the consumption of your 740 pls? but in liters/100 km pls..i'm Romanian.
The 740 il was a design disaster that BMW made which is the reason the value of those cars doesnt hold up anymore. A 5 series of the same year is worth more since it has more of rounded contemporary style where as the 740il looks like an elongated soap box with that long trunk. The 745i and the 750i on the other hand look awazing with the shorter trunk and the rounded edges, the bigger grill, and the sleekly designed lights which is the reason theyre still selling for 18-28K used.
I guess this car is a case of function over form. It doesnt look amazing but seems to do its job really well. Seemed like quite a bit of road noise on the highway though. Were the windows open or something?
nice rear shot there ;) LOL 3:18

I saw the car on the Garden State Hwy before the official launch. This is a great piece of machine and art. It is well sculpted. BMW did a great job.

I get 13 l 100km city = 18 mpg
8.5 l 100km highway = 28mpg
These numbers are represent conservative driving. My average is about 11-12 l 100km.
