I am a mega Graham Nash fan and a big Radiohead fan. This song bored me when it came out, because it was too MOR. Bland. The only thing that ever saved it was when Nash and Clarke sang it during the reunion.
@NewHopeNashFan It obviously doesn't bore you too much bec you deliberately went to this video! All you do is go to post-Nash Hollies videos to trash them. How pathetic! Luckily this song didn't bore many others as I'm sure you know, it was a world-wide hit. The reunion tour with Nash wasn't though, was it?
@heymaryann1 1980's music was then in vogue. People only came to the Hollies concerts if they wanted to see the Nash reunion, since the Hollies might as well have fallen off the face of the earth once they stopped charting.
@whokeithmoon I love Radiohead and Graham Nash because of their level of intelligence. Think of me what you will, it doesn't change my assessment that Radiohead is brilliant and this song puts me to sleep as much as it did when it first came out.
You really need to look at the accuracy of those lyrics. It's "peace came upon me and it leaves me weak" and "has left me peaceful, warm and tired," which, of course, rhymes with "nothing left to be desired."
And it's "So sleep, silent angel. Go to sleep."
And, god, I don't even want to get into that swamp of a first chorus you've got there. Where'd you get these?
heymaryanne, was relating Nash with the Hollies rather than the song but thanks for the trivia.tho indirectly he did have something to do with the hit, in as much of the influence he had on the way the band had that unique sound
@keefyd5 It's because of the middle of the road approach to music the Hollies took beginning with the Dylan album that the great Graham Nash threw up his hands and left, taking the real Hollies sound with him and grafting it to the legendary CSN.
@NewHopeNashFan Previously you claimed Nash left bec he wrote all the Hollies hits yet Clarke & Hicks stole the credit for them. You're obviously not a Hollies fan if you can make that kind of accusation! I think Clarke/Hicks would also be interested to hear that Nash took the Hollies sound with him! Clarke's voice & the Hollies harmonies are the sound of the Hollies & it carried on after Nash quite successfully! NO ONE would confuse CSN with the far superior Hollies!!
@heymaryann1 Graham DID take the Hollies sound with him. His energy level and timbre cannot be mistaken for anything else. I don't confuse even the Nash era Hollies with the brilliant CSN - which I actually prefer because Graham was actually allowed more musical freedom there. Again - this is a matter of OPINION. You can have Sylvester. He put me to sleep in the 1970's.
