@robertquentincobb Mr. Spooner and a few of the secretaries are still living. Mr. Lucas passed a few months ago. Capt. Peacock & Mr. Rumbold are still breathing.
@yaywhewclips242 A stringvestite is an old term for a badly dressed crossdresser/tranvestite. Imagine a guy in dress with a full beard. He's not even trying to pass for true fem...that's a stringvestite.
@LeeBryan76UK definitely get it. i snagged the DVD boxset for a christmas present for my dad two christmases ago...i believe i got it off amazon, and it was really cheap [less than $40...but i think it's gone up a tad...but still better than the $100 some sell it for]
I don't understand why this show is rated as only the 20th comedy favorite of UK people. I have watched about ten other comedies, and AYBS is by FAR the best.
@orlandobabe Hey! I didnt know you watched this!!! Of course I remember it the first time around on tv(getting old!). Me and my mum before the ep came on used to guess what colour hair Mrs Slocombe would have, as it changed colour in every ep. Do you have a favourite character?
@orlandobabe Great! There is also ''Are You Being Served - The Movie ''- if you havent seen it. Its on utube. They use a lot of the old jokes though from the series, but its still good to watch.
My mum used to work in shop similiar to this in the 60's&70's,with all the drawers and display cases, etc. Like Mrs S she worked on the ladies dept, and she also had to fit ladies for corsets, even in those days!! :)
@orlandobabe Oh yes, Mr Lucas's expressions are always funny. I like it when he tells his ''tall stories'' about when hes late at work sometimes, and his look of amazement when anyone believes him! I also like it when he teases Mrs Slocombe. I think he's everyone's favourite character.
While I have been enjoying these episodes, I cannot help having the feeling that they have been slightly edited. For example, when the lady who wants to buy a hat enters, she has a brief Q & A with Capt. Peacock as to where to go to buy a hat. In this edition, all you see is the very end of the exchange when Peacock points. Was this done to keep the episode under 30 minutes so the entire show could be uploaded?
@gmahler50 i have made no changes whatsoever to the program and am uploading the original dvd version. there is no problem with upload length, especially considering i have the full 90 minute movie in one piece.
@mtwini09 I believe gmahler50 is correct. In the version that was originally aired, the woman looking for a hat first comes up to Captain Peacock and says "Hats! Ladies!". Captain Peacock asks which does she wants first, the "Ladies" or Hats. She then clarifies, "Ladies Hats!!". Captain Peacock then says "Counter! There!" and points to the Ladies Counter. It's unfortunate there appears to be some small edits in the DVD versions, but I have been really enjoying them all the same
@gmahler50 BBC made all the episodes at 28mins, many a time you would only see the end of the exchange, its straight into brown and slocomb talking or gents side, its just how its was recorded.
@gmahler50 its just how its was recorded. there is NOT CUTS! it was to show the woman has NO time, and you see woman running off just as quick as she come in! ( just like the two men)
@gmahler50 Good catch! I noticed that too. That is how it is on the original tv show, the exchange with the lady and the hats IS longer, but on the DVD copy the exchange with the lady and the hat IS reduced.
@gmahler50 I think there is some editing. I watch them in the U.S. on PBS and I believe the lady comes in and says something like "need hat, hurry, wedding" and Captain Peacock says something like "ladies There" and points.
@gmahler50 As much as I adore this show -- there are quite a few examples throughout its run of sloppy editing. Occasionally you will see actors waiting for their cue, obvious cuts, flubbed lines and a number of things you are not supposed to see. These errors are all from the original presentation. It is, in a way, another charming element of this show when watching in 2011, where sloppy editing is now rare. BTW, if I am reading your user name correctly, you have very good taste in music. :)
That's great. I love V o' D. I vaguely remember To The Manor Born, my mom used to watch that and I can sort of remember it. We get Fawlty Towers here but I've never seen Open All Hours. I remember On The Busses, but that's old old old, I just remember my mom watching that show. Thanks for uploading this, seriously, you have brought joy to a person who is going through a hell of a time. It means more than I think you can know. It helped me laugh in a very tough time. Thank you VERY MUCH!
That would be awesome because in Canada we get it on PBS and they only seem to show the first two seasons of every British show and it's like every 8 weeks it's a rerun, even though the show actually ran for over ten years in England. The last episode I know about Vicar of Dibley is when she had sex with that guy and jumped in the puddle, but the show ran for like 12 years or something. We get 10 episodes over here. NO FAIR! :(
Same with AYBS. There are eps I never saw I'm sure. SUCKS!
@likethepear well there are about 20 vicar of dibley episodes, and 69 aybs, so you would have missed a bit. Sometime I will have them all up here. Other shows Im considering are To the Manor Born, Open All Hours, and Fawlty Towers.
