  • This is what I want to do when I grow up!

  • Hmm, when he talks about flight plans, he doesn't include fuel endurance and POB (persons on board), is that just how it's done in the us? Here in the uk, I believe that information is part of the flight plan

  • @bigbadbenable

That's probably because its not relevant to ATC. All of that stuff is on file somewhere, including color of the aircraft, pilot's name, etc. From an ATC perspective, all we really need to know is: call sign, type of plane/equipment, airspeed, route, and altitude.

  • I'm diggin the Bayer in the back during the data brief! lol

  • I like the cute narrator girl

  • I was looking into this career until I found out it was dominated by labor unions.

  • I am a retired Air Traffic Controller who had a flight plan on American 11 on 911 and who controlled that flight hundreds of times before 911. I was one of the first controllers to hear it ran into WTC. UAL93's ATC is a friend of mine. .Read my story and the ATC Strike of 1981 below.

While on You Tube search for AyXjdxtZPS0 It is about 911 and ATC. Very Informative..

Or go to air-traffic-controller and then type dot (.) org

  • @1981strike damn, i could only imagine...TRACON im assuming?

  • 15shelby A school I will never go to. And a Shelby shit never paid for it. As I sit I'm a trucker becuase my dad was a air traffic controler. Fuck you Shelby.

  • @15shelby Thanks for the info. When I worked with much "pride and joy" as a bagagehandler for K.L.M. Ground Services at Schiphol Airport almost three years ago, I never stopped wondering how working in "The Tower" would be like.

Although driving the illustrious "RampSnake" along the Bravo, Charlie, Delta and

Echo platforms was in a way quite exhilirating as well, the goings on in Air Traffic

Control kept fascinating me even more. But alas, I've got my age against me.

    "Copy that "Roger!"

  • Just make sure they don't fall asleep in the tower

  • @Aviator14 Well you might want to assist for shift change to make sure. Be my gueste: 6A.M. to 2:P.M., 8A.M. to 4P.M., 2P.M. to 6P.M., 4P.M to 12A.M, 12:00A.M. to 8:00A.M. They are fully staffed and effeciently accomedated for your big mouth. I will be waiting for your ignorent response. Pilolt.

  • Can a 32 year old join the Air National Guard and learn ATC and then qualify to do ATC for DoD and FAA? I read somewhere about a veterans waiver but would that count going in after the 31 age cutoff?

  • @uneqstylez

Nope. To work ATC for the FAA you must begin processing (security & medical clearance) prior to your 31st birthday. About 10 years ago the FAA had some programs for retired military controllers, PATCO rehires, and those affected by the OPM hiring freeze in '91 which allowed some people to get hired after the age of 31. I don't foresee the agency doing this again any time soon. Other than that, the FAA does not allow for age waivers.

  • Is this anything like "Pushing Tin"? (that rather enjoyable movie with John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton). Or was that just a hyper version of the real deal? Because after watching only a few minutes of Cusack's kinda maverick way of handling those planes, I was exhausted! As if he was playing some sort of

computergame. But to have that kind of tremendous responsibility, where every dot on the screen resembles an actual aircraft (and not a tennisball!), you literally

    must have some NERVE!

  • @OEKIE77 Pushing Tin captured the working environment and the interpersonal relationship tension that exists, but as a technical representation it struck out.

  • I heard you cant be a civilian air traffic controller if your older then 31. Is this true? So if you did time in the military as an ATC and your a couple years over 31 you cant come out of the military and become an ATC? or how does that work? I have been in the military for 8 years and im an ATC. and my contract is up in a few years and i will be over 31 but I wanted to be a civilian ATC. can I still apply as a civilian ATC?

  • @DannyBoy52785

you have to be certified below 31

so if your military your good

you can also get age waivers

  • @fawas92

This is not true to work ATC for the DOD FAA.

  • I don't seem to have any interest in this job. Not to mention it don't pay enough. Oh I have all the clad training but there never was any motivation for that type of job. Not inviting enough. There is much friction I would rather take my money else where.

Spain is a patent and Russia is authority.

  • @CraigsRLimon In canada they pay $110,000 a year apparently, ofcourse you wouldn't start at that though, probably start around $70-80 thousand a year.

  • @CraigsRLimon In canada they pay $110,000 a year apparently, ofcourse you wouldn't start at that though, probably start around $70-80 thousand a year.

  • MY SISTER WENT TO KPITS pittsburgh international airport ATC she said it was crazyyyyyyyyyy busy

  • I am in the process of applying to NATS in the UK to start ATC training.

  • @dantastic15 help help help. did you do a levels??????????

  • @J0104J yes i have.

  • @dantastic15 What subjects did you choose, and which would be the best to help me do this job?????

  • @dantastic15 help help help. did you do a levels??????????

  • I hear that you have to be 30 years or younger without prior schooling to do this. I am a Navy Veteran. I just turned 29. Lets say i finish school when im 33. Will I still be elgible for employment?

  • @XRAYZAKKONTATIK nope they make dat clear b4 u start takin da class

  • I am currently 16 and in 10th grade. Not making perfect grades but i'm working on improving. Any people out there with tips on becoming an Air Traffic Controller. I would really like to do this when i grow up and i was looking it up. I was just wondering if there were any tips or pre requisite classes you would advise before college and such as well as what colleges and classes i should look into.

  • @jddavidso

I am currently an air traffic controller in the U.S Air Force, will be going into the civilian sector when my term is done, i would suggest that road

  • @stephaniegillam20

Nice! I enlisted in the Air Force, and I am leaving for BMT on Feb. 22. My AFSC is going to be an Air Traffic Controller! Can't wait! Do you like the job? You have any basic tips on how to survive Tech School? I heard the wash out rate is pretty high.

  • @jddavidso I am on a similar road, but a little older (in college). I would suggest that you take classes and complete a college major in whatever interests you (i.e. somethign else that you would enjoy doing for a living). The FAA doesn't care what your major was or what classes you took, they just want to be sure that you are capable of higher level thought. Staying away from ATC/aviation classes will give you a good fall-back career if ATC doesn't work out.

  • @jddavidso (part 2). For instance, I am a double major at Chapman Univ. in Business Admin and Accounting. I have always loved business and the world of finance (in addition to planes/aviation). If I ever decide to change my career or get laid off (a somewhat likely possibility), I can make money doing something else I love. If things do work out and you become an atc, it will only make you a more well-rounded person. Don't worry about the whole atc thing until you're standing in front of

  • @jddavidso of a crowd and graduating from college. I hope that helps! You've got plenty of time.

  • Ohhh Tampa. I talk to them the time on 119.65 when flying in and out of Sarasota. Sometimes they're pissy, and sometimes they're cool, but they always do a good job of making sure us pilots don't crash into each other.

  • is that a BOX of BAYER!?

  • As GA pilot just want to say thanks for all your hard work!

  • Extremely Interesting!

  • Would you mind saying how much you make a year?

Or how much a new worker might earn a year? Im very interested in this since im going to the Air Force

  • @DopeBoyMagic66 they can easily make over 100k starting. bonuses are huge, make sure you get a good program. high stress job according to most people but hey if its what you love then its good.

  • @SeanTagen 100k starting? Hardly....Starting wages for a developmental is 42k/yr. I'm D2 at 51k/yr, still have 2 radar positions which are $2.50 a position and get a 2-3$ raise in January from our contract. This is a level 7 up down facility. If you were to work at a level 10+ Developmental wages are still 42k/yr until you certify on a position.

  • no one cares if ur 13 dude thats like me saying im 16 and i live in california...no one cares.....all u have to do is join the air force and get 4 years into traffic controlling u shuld be set

  • I am 13 years old and my dream job is to become an air traffic controller. I live in Brisbane, Australia and I want to work at Brisbane Airport. What is the chance of a person getting employed? If I get a Bachelors degree I should be ok right?

  • @TheSiwelf You don't need a degree

  • wat happens wen pilots screw up a little?

  • good ATC

  • Tower is for pussies. Radar controllers have the real balls

  • @Celticking36 That's your opinion. I work in the Tower and wouldn't want to work in tracon in a dark room sitting in front of a radar screen for 8-10 hrs a day. I enjoy working in the Tower and being able to see the type of aircraft I am talking to. During my Air Force years I saw military aircraft from the Tower that Tracon ATC's will never see. You may think we are pussies but we see military aircraft and civilian aircraft you probably will never see.

  • @CombatRadar

    How was ur tech school?

  • @CombatRadar Who is doubting you? And why are we calling each other "pussies"? Damn, shaddap, people, get along. Control the air.

  • @Celticking36 What type of control work do you do?

  • @Celticking36 umm humm tower controls use this thing called, Radar. so in a say they are "Radar Controller" so wtf are you talking bout? Hollywood? 2:48 <--look a radar!!!! lol

  • @Logo3801 There are controllers on certain areas that use non-radar due to low radar coverage

  • @Logo3801 we only use radar to identify aircraft its not used like it is in tracon

  • @milla - the figure for smaller airports isn't that low.

working a slow airport will net you between 60-90k/yr.

across the board ATC will generally make more than pilots, considering furloughs and layoffs that are prevalent considering the economy.

Captains.. yes, they make more. lots more. But on average you'll find the controllers bringing in more money.

  • Pilots gets more money .

  • lolz wrong. Unless you're a 20 year veteran you aren't going to make 100k a year; What a controller can make after just a few years.

  • atc gets more money.

  • @resny0

Yes, they make $50,000 an hour...

  • lmaoOoo hahahahahahhaha bets piece of sarcasm i've read al day!! lmao

  • @resny0

Depends. Entry ATC's make $50k at smaller airports, while ATC's at larger airports may start off with over $140k. Pilots typicallyy start around $38k and varies on the industry. The most a starting pilot will make is around $80k.

  • Hello from Chicago approach control!

  • in sweden it took me 5 years

  • does anybody kno how many years in the us it takes to complete everything and start working as an atc

  • @hghskid Go to a college with an ATC major, wait for ~9 months to go to Oak. City for FAA training and go to work.

  • @hghskid

Go into the AF, save yourself time.

  • Not true, that Tracon handels the flight all the way to the local controller of the destination airport. More than likely a center controller will be in control of the airplane during the cruise.

  • omg i went there for a boyscout trip XD i

  • Tracon facilities don't control you the whole way to your destination though, they only control aircraft approaching and departing the airspace. ARTCC's, or en route facilities control you while you are on your way.

  • I met him when I did a tour of Orlando Tower.

  • how can you tour tower places will they let you do that cause i want to be a ATC and I have always wanted to go in and tour the tower

  • If you are learning to fly and have a flight instructor ask him, that's how I got to go. If not, try emailing or calling a facility and how you can take a tour.

  • Ok thanks I will try to e-mail

Hope they will let me do it

  • How can I visit a Tower ? Is there a way (email someone, or the airport to visit the Tower?)

  • very cool job to have...thanks for sharing what you guys do up there...

  • Wow, great intro to this profession. Thanks so much.

  • you dont know anything about ATC...obviously...shut your mouth

  • Yep you got me, I dont know anything..... Btw moron it was a joke.

  • THX FOR SHARING!!!!
