Classic new age guru. I judge that he speaks many truths that we all need to hear. Unfortunately, the guru failed to hear his own spoken truths and died lonely after betraying and being betrayed by his wife and children.
I didn't know that this book exists until i passed by a book store and saw one. I didn't hesitated to purchase it, i didn't knew why. But now I know why.
This is the best book I have ever read, it really speaks to the key problems and how to overcome those problems, I read this book whenever I feel down and it really give me the self motivation, I recommend it to everyone from teenagers to adults
This is an excellent book. I like Pecks view on science that it in itself is a religion. I admire his humanity and compassion on the human condition. This book helps you travel far.
@humanityfirstnow Peck's humanity and compassion are likely admirable. But his understanding of science is unfortunatley lacking. It's not the most important thing about the book, but his misunderstanding of basic scientific principles (i.e. thermodynamics in his chapeter 'the miracle of evolution') are shockingly substandard for a man of his education and easily debunked with a high school physics book (test it). It's okay that science isn't his strongsuit, but it is what it is.
@wontUBmine in october of 09' i did about 8 grams of shrooms with pot and booze and had a bad trip. I had just finished reading this book and felt terrible about my childhood and how I had let myself go to the point of being 318LBS obese and felt terrible about my life choices. 2 hourse into my bad trip I finished downloading michael Jacksons Moonwalker and the first 6 minutes changed my life. Man in the mirror hit me like a ton of bricks while the rest of the movie made for a great shroom trip.
@csfreak86 I watched man in the miror 10 times that night and really absorrebed the message. the next day I threw out all my junk food and filled my house with health food. over the course of a year I have read all of pecks books and am now 175lbs at 6'2.. I am not saying that shrooms and phycodelics should be legal but I do beleive that they should be in the hands of doctors.
@csfreak86 Friend thank you for that. Based on what you have shared here, no doubt the shrooms were of a positive aid. May i share my story. I was in theprocess of divorce which my wife of over 26 years had ordered. I was feeling very empty disenfranchised betrayed lost and more than a little out of sorts. I was contemplating going berserk ,taking my self and others out. I took a 2 gram dose and I felt great had a pot brownie with it and acouple of beers. I was able to find peace and love again.

I love what he says about motivation especially the relationship between discipline and gratification. Very well explained indeed!!!

He lived with a woman who had depression for decades. Pretty tough to stay faithful.
Regardless, the message doesn't change because of the messenger.

Yes, his thermodynamics understanding was poor for a 'scientist'. Its still the greatest book ever written, especially the non-spiritual section.
