There is no penalty for blindside hits. A head hit would have been one and that wasnt the case here. I love tavares as a player but hes gotta watch out cutting across like that especially with Phaneuf on the ice.

Its a clean hit hit, but very close to being a dirty hit imo. First off, the keep your head up stuff on every big hit on youtube needs to stop. One, his head was up... and even if it wasn't Phan still came from behind. Two, Dion is the trailing guy on the ice... he was lining up Tavares from the mid-line. Three, the puck was gone already... he shot and it was a couple seconds after that Phaneuf decided to hit. He's lucky JT started to turn back up ice or else that would have been a bad hit.

@Burton82190 I've played hockey for almost 20 years now and i'll say I was one of the toughest on the ice cause i could take a hit and get right back up. They teach you in peewee how to take a hit and what not to do so you avoid being hit like this. Tavares should of seen him coming when he looked across the ice at the top of the circle. Cutting into the middle of the ice with your head down is the dumbest thing you can do. Yeah it is very easy to comment from the sidelines when i know hockey.
