I was at this show in the front row hanging over the railing haha they were absolutely dope. I got the limited edition vinyl pressing of Messengers that day but it melted in my car =(
@hibrandonhi technically the drums are the metronome, haha and the rest of the band is following him. the drummer is the quarterback of the band pretty much. hahaha
Does he freaking listen to a metronome while he plays live? I've never ever seen a drummer that plays the EXACT same tempo as the record without assistance. Very nice!
@greggorygogfreedom Perfect meaning he's like a human metronome. That's EXTREMELY fuckin hard. Almost guaranteed most bands can't be synced with recorded music because they get off time live. It happens.
@MrDrummerFish shut up seriously, quit bashing other metal bands joey jordison doesnt suck and just because abr is better than slipknot doesnt mean slipknot sucks. its just another group of guys expressing themselves through music. respect it. even if it doesnt fit your style.
@skaterfan105 - yea if you wanna express yourself through slitting your own wrists. and yes they do suck. they have nine guys and it sounds like absolute crap. you would think with 9 guys it would sound alright but no. every song sounds the same. i respect abr because of their faith and musicianship. i respect you for having your own taste in music. but i dont respect nontalented bands who are just about the shockvalue of what they do. the whole "maggot" death crazy masks deal. thats retarded
the tempo doesnt change, the feel of the groove changes alot but that is typical of matts playing. i read all the comments way down the page and all of you hilarious people got me curious so i got out my metronome. and why would it change..were listening to the album version as many of you geniuses have already pointed out
@reydrop The drummer for All That Remains ( Sorry I can't think of his name at the moment ) uses a metronome for when they place live. I think it would be near impossible without one.
@bubbasock Yeah, the tempo does change....and it's VERY noticeable. If someone doesn't think tempos change multiple times in a song, then they need to go listen to Dream Theater and Tool...

It's not the real video playing the music, they recorded it and put the real song over it. They're obviously playing the song, but they were a little off on some of the drum fills.

@markyramone120 yeah the track is dubbed over the video but its showing that he keeps the exact temp with the song live. he does this for every song cuz hes just that badass
@markyramone120 frickin lucky!!!!!! hes my inspiration for drumming and it kills me that i still havent seen them live yet!!!!!!!!! one of these days though
@Kaittos DONT YOU KNOW HE USES A FUCKING METRONOME DIPSHIT? METRONOMES TEMPO DONT CHANGE. HE USES NOTE SIGNATURE CHANGE TO OVERLAP MEASURES AND COME BACK TO THE PREVIOUS SIGNATURE
@sebastianjwalker Hahahahaha. Oh man, this is classic. The tempo can change from one to the next as many times as the artist/composer wants in a song. And note signature? You mean time signature? Christ, I can't even make out your last sentence into a sensible argument. Which I'm sure it wasn't, so, oh well.
Matt gave me a free shirt, drum lesson, and he let me watch them from back stage. ....always good to be friends with the drummer for ABR right. Got some backstage videos from the AP tour...comment and subscribe
@cunjoz he's using whats called a click track. its an audio track on the ipod hes listening to that acts like a click metronome that changed with the tempo changes in the song. im also a drummer and im actually starting to do that now too
Well first of all, he's just really really good. Second of all, he wrote the drums so of course he'll know when to hit what. Also, the metronome is most likely playing in his ear-peaces and changes as the song changes tempo.
@cunjoz ummm yeah.... the way you put it.... it made it sound like you thought they played "perfect". Which I assume would mean that they played it exactly like the recorded song. In which case, would be definately understandable, considering that this is dubbed.
lol guys yea the tempo definitely does change there. mr. "bubbasock" is completely correct, that if the tempo went to cut time it would be exactly the same. as far as your click track situation, i've come across drummers who actually listen to the actual studio version of the song that has a click over it on their i-pod. when they record the song in the studio they record it in sections of different tempos, this is how they achieve the effect of seemless transitions with no tempo change
why the fuck would you want to use a cut time? it goes from 120bpm, straight to 216bp as soon as the 4 bar fill kicks in, then the ending that is the same as the intro is 2-4 bpm faster than the intro. jesus.
@TylerMatthewSonn very true you get up in front of a crowd and u wanna go a thousand miles an hour since ur adrenaline is going crazy playing with a metronome and using control is actually way more difficult. matt makes it look extremely easy tho lol
To people wondering how they know the tempo changes... It's a click track for each song that plays into their headphones they got on... Lots of bands do it, Adam Gray from Texas in July uses it for example. They make the click track to the tempo's and changes in the studio and then just export to MP3 and play on their ipod
This is a tight performance. I dont like to play with metronome... But in the Studio I have to^^ Live I prefer to play without. It´s like condoms: With them its saver, but without them its more fun!
the amazing thing is, they must all be playing to metronomes, they are a ridiculousy tight and talented, and personally as a drummer, Matt is what I aim for
@bigwillgreen hahaha. yes. I'm majoring in music performance and I don't know what I am talking about. "The tempo never changes in any song ever"? lmfao. Why don't you do some research. The tempo changes at 0:37 from around 120 bpm to around 200 bpm... Tap YOUR foot. it doesn't match.
@bubbasock your an idiot. The tempo NEVER changes. Its called cut time. The tempo didnt change from 120 bpm to 200 bpm. They just went into cut time. The tempo will never change. The only thing that will change is the time signature.
@DaviddddEO the tempo DID change regardless if you want to believe it or not! they can play to a metronome that speeds up or slows down, its not weird these days. it is fact that you can spot many tempo changes in ABRs music. watch them in the studio, geeezz
@DaviddddEO cut time means changing from 4/4 to 2/2, cut time is refering to the pulse of the measure changing to the half note instead of the quarter note, it has nothing to to do with tempo. if it did, taping your foot to 8th should match up the entire song, clearly it does not. bubbasock is absolutely right by saying the tempo speeds up a significant amount at 00:37. Good game fellas.
@bubbasock im in a band, and when you go to a studio you have to use a metronome, you have to get all your tempo's in one song sorted out before you record so your correct tempo's change all the time thats why when you change tempo's its called a transition. whoever said that is stupid.
@theoriginalfatman It doesnt though xP He uses a metronome. How could he if the tempo changes? The tempo might be able to change on a metronome. But the thing is Matt just randomly switches to the tempo of a song. Not knowing what measure he is on
@sebastianjwalker What the fuck is a note signature? Oh... I think you meant TIME signature. Well, it doesn't change. It's in 4/4 the entire song. The tempo changes. I'm not an idiot.
@sebastianjwalker at 0:40 the tempo changes dumbass. And yes the TEMPO not the note signature. THE TEMPO! Get out a metronome and sync it with the intro and see if it holds up through the whole song...it wont.
@sebastianjwalker your a fucking cockeater, august burns red does tons of tempo changes, yes in certain songs they do time sig changes, but in this song they do increase and decrease the tempo, go ahead and cut your ears off you fucking cunt
@bubbasock ya Jb never did tempo changes in messengers because he thought they werent good enough but they were but in constilations he desided he is doing alot of tempo changes
@bubbasock sorry to burst your bubble, but if you can't tell the song your HEARING is the studio version, unlike the video, tempos do not change when they make studio versions, unless if its meant to be. I am also majoring in music performance , as well as in a band
The tempo doesnt change , i tapped my foot all day long
@YoYoYiggedyYoO when you use the word "fast" you mean speed. You're trying to say that the tempo doesn't change, there are just twice as many notes per measure. When in reality, the tempo actually speeds up
:O

@DaviddddEO cut time means changing from 4/4 to 2/2, cut time is refering to the pulse of the measure changing to the half note instead of the quarter note, it has nothing to to do with tempo. if it did, taping your foot to 8th should match up the entire song, clearly it does not. bubbasock is absolutely right by saying the tempo speeds up a significant amount at 00:37. Good game fellas.

@bubbasock im in a band, and when you go to a studio you have to use a metronome, you have to get all your tempo's in one song sorted out before you record so your correct tempo's change all the time thats why when you change tempo's its called a transition. whoever said that is stupid.
whiteweding1 1 year ago
@whiteweding1 THANK YOU! At least you're smart. If the tempo never changed in a song, there would be no need for a conductor in an orchestra!
bubbasock 1 year ago
@bubbasock The tempo doesn't change the note signature does. Learn something for fuck sake -.-
sebastianjwalker 1 year ago
@sebastianjwalker NO IT DOESNT DUMB FUCK. ITS 4|4 THE WHOLE TIME. EXCEPT FOR ONE PART WHERE ITS LIKE 5|4. THE DAMN TEMPO CHANGES.
theoriginalfatman 1 year ago
@theoriginalfatman It doesnt though xP He uses a metronome. How could he if the tempo changes? The tempo might be able to change on a metronome. But the thing is Matt just randomly switches to the tempo of a song. Not knowing what measure he is on
sebastianjwalker 1 year ago
BUBBASOCK IS SO FUCKING WRONG STOP GIVING HIM THUMBS IT'S THE NOTE SIGNATURE THAT CHANGES NOT THE FUCKING TEMPO
sebastianjwalker 1 year ago
@sebastianjwalker What the fuck is a note signature? Oh... I think you meant TIME signature. Well, it doesn't change. It's in 4/4 the entire song. The tempo changes. I'm not an idiot.

@sebastianjwalker at 0:40 the tempo changes dumbass. And yes the TEMPO not the note signature. THE TEMPO! Get out a metronome and sync it with the intro and see if it holds up through the whole song...it wont.
Binxes11 1 year ago
@Binxes11 At 0:42 the tempo goes back xP I did use a metronome asshole

Dashiznit564 1 year ago
@sebastianjwalker Lol but that shit is unnecessarily complicated. It doesn't fit exactly no matter how you divide it. The tempo clearly changes lmao

@bubbasock sorry to burst your bubble, but if you can't tell the song your HEARING is the studio version, unlike the video, tempos do not change when they make studio versions, unless if its meant to be. I am also majoring in music performance , as well as in a band
The tempo doesnt change , i tapped my foot all day long
Sorry

@YoYoYiggedyYoO Have you had your foot checked?
bubbasock 1 year ago
@bubbasock I do use it a lot
but truly you are wrong
are you saying that instead of playing quarted notes that he switched to 16th notes?
YoYoYiggedyYoO 1 year ago
@YoYoYiggedyYoO lol no... why are you talking about note values all of the sudden? I said the tempo speeds up.
bubbasock 1 year ago
@bubbasock the tempo doesnt change is what im saying , it stays the same, yes the notes to become twice as fast but still the same tempo
YoYoYiggedyYoO 1 year ago
@YoYoYiggedyYoO when you use the word "fast" you mean speed. You're trying to say that the tempo doesn't change, there are just twice as many notes per measure. When in reality, the tempo actually speeds up
bubbasock 1 year ago
@YoYoYiggedyYoO The tempo slows down, actually, my bad. Not drastically, but still. Clap your hands with the music and you'll notice that.
bubbasock 1 year ago
@bubbasock Yes there is a tempo change from the beggining to 0:50
does get slightly slower
yes
YoYoYiggedyYoO 1 year ago
