Who cares if they are "real" metal or not? As previously stated there are many sub-genres of metal.Lacuna Coil has some music that falls under Goth Metal,and others that just falls under alternative/industrial rock.Those of you who base your whole lives around making sure everything you listen to is 100% "Metal" just to save your "bad boy" images are only denying yourself some great music.I'm not saying listen to rap or country,because those will always suck,but seriously lighten up some.

she is absolutely right about the difference between U.S and Europe in regards to Depeche Mode, and i'd argue, synth pop and goth rock in general. it's not a coincidence that these influences were popularised in metal by European bands. I don't remember hearing new wave influences in American metal at all in the mid 90's.

as for whether L.Coil are metal, i think they are pop metal, BUT 'Shallow Life' is more rock/pop.

If there is a new wave influence in Fear Factory, it's in Burton's clean vocals, but there is no direct lift, as such, even if he was influenced by new wave and 80's pop music in general. I'd still argue it's more of a European thing, and one or two exceptions to not make or break a rule.

I've always thought of them as alternative.

and I'm a huge metal head and Lacuna Coil is my fave band ever but I seriously dont see why people call them metal inluding themselves.

I love Depeche Mode too and personally I cant decide between the two.

I agree. They have a metal feel but I'd even call them goth/alternative. Harder, better than Evanescence (sp?) but I'm not sure I'd class them as metal. Perhaps if it were just Andrea's voice..her voice might soften the sound and make me think that.

U have to remember that therse different types of metal. not every metal band sounds like slipknot or slayer or metallica or black sabbath. i personally think of them as Alternative Metal.

In my opinion it's better from Lacuna Coil because they have put in the song a melody that makes it more nice. Depeche Mode is an Electro/Pop band and Lacunal Coil is an Alternative Metal band so it's totally different, so you can't compare two different things ;)

I think it's a misconception that metal heads don't know depeche mode. Anyone like me who grew up in the 80's/90's and were driven around by their parents who listened to the to 40 stations would have heard about depeche mode and more than likely this exact song

it was an unexpected treat to find this song on the CD. I was playing BF1942 and listening to the CD when the track came up and I was flying around and it was an amazing sound to fly to.
