When the obnoxious guy who speaks in sports metaphors & the bomb sniffing dog are your best new recruits, we've got major problems. GI Joe should really have stricter regulations when it comes to new recruits as they really are the D-Team of Joes.
@aSimulatedHigh No. Tunnel rats were soldiers and Marines who were short/small enough to infiltrate the tunnels created by the Viet Cong. Usually they were armed with only a flashlight, knife and pistol. It was their job to recon and destroy tunnel systems to ensure enemies couldn't surprise the rest of the platoon. As for the GI Joe character, his Wikipedia page says Tunnel Rat is "a Trinidadian Chinese who lived in Brooklyn, New York" and is a combat engineer and EOD tech in the US Army.

Slaughter, Shipwreck, Flint, Beach Head, General Hawk and Lady Jayne for a start while thel ieks of Low Light and Snake-Eyes are obviously black-ops types. however Gi Joe was designed to sell toys and pitched as a specialist group with no real ranks, so no real uniforms are needed.
The crowd ain't the only thing that is going Banana's LOL Bweahhead been my second favorite charater 1 is snake eyes and third was Mainframe. RIP Mainframe.
