I remember cruising my 1979 10th Anniversary Trans Am 4spd with the T-Tops off and blaring my Blaupunt Berlin with the Gooseneck EQ and Pioneer Triaxal 6x9 speakers. Those were the days!
and i remember my 68 Plymouth Satellite with Cragar mags, 318 CID, metal-flake green paint, twin hi-jacker shocks in the rear...wow, do we know how good we had it? youth, a little bit of cash...at least 3 chicks that liked me, and the best rock music...wish we could do it again
Had a 76 Gremlin -X with 2 wooden boxes with mindblower speakers.Could hear me coming up the road for a mile.Blasted the hell out of my eardrums with this shit.No wonder im legally deaf lol.Good times in that car though. Then i bought a Dodge van, fully customized, wall to wall shag, yeah baby yeah.
@77pintoboy and we ended up at the drive-in with the "Foxy American Girls"....I had a '72 metallic gold plymouth satellite sebring built for speed.....and an 8-gallon keg in the trunk....nobody left that place still a virgin, eh? Keep the Faith, Brother!!!
@MrMarkbennett I had the Jensen triaxials and coaxials both in the back of a '69 4 door Chrysler Newport. There was a place to mount four 6 x 9's! The sound was great. The best I'd heard back then. I had cassette Craig Power Play and/or cassette Pioneer Supertuner powering them,,,can't remeber which at the time,,,I had both. (Both were top of the line.) I think the Powerplay was rated more watts per channel "of the vintage juice".
I got to see the Cars debuet in Cleveland Ohio at the World Series of Rock in 1976, I believe. Oh yeah, playing with them were Todd Rundgren, Ted Nugent, and Fleetwood Mac along with Bob Welsh. And the ticket cost $10.00 dollars.Damn, take me back to those days!
Uncle Danny hasn't heard this since he was in his teens.. He's 45 right now and will be over at my house tonight.. So i'm downloading this song for him and put it on my brand new stereo i just got..
recorded at Cherokee studio's in L.A.- I was there maintaining a Q-lock and heard it all go down. An experience of a lifetime. Ocasek showed up in a Rolls Royce with purple hair and Benjamin Orr was the prettiest dude I had ever seen. Probably still have hearing damage from that week but it was worth it!
wow just listen to this song, this is why i keep saying the CARS are not a pop band. The CARS were medium guitar rock mixed with new wave. The most innovative band of all time. With Ric Ocaseks querky lyrics, the voice of Benjamin Orr, Elliot Eastons guitar work, the brain behind the band , drummer David Robinson, and the amazing keyboardist Greg Hawkes, success was instant.
@MrMarkbennett Holy shit! I can't beleive it someone actually remembers the old Jensen Triaxles. I had a 70 Nova with a Pioneer 8 track wired up to the Jensen Triaxles . You gotta admit that was the shit back then.
We all had Jensen Tri-Axials too, along with those Sanyo tape decks. My buds all had the cassette decks and I had the Sanyo 8-track. Those under dash mounted decks would slide out of their mounting frames and were interchangeable too! Cool stuff....
By far the Cars ruled and dominated the 80s and beyond, excellent song . Makes me wish that I were cruising around in a 77 Trans am looking for chicks :)
Fuck yes. Or my 69 SS Chevelle. Pussy was not an issue but VARIETY was. But shit I wore this 'CASSETTE' out I'll admit. It was a great time in my life.
candy o i need you sunday dress ruby rings candy o i need you so could you help me in purple hum, assorted cards razor lights, you bring and all to prove you're on the move and vanishing candy o i need you so candy o i need you so the edge of night distract yourself obstacles don't work homogenize, decentralize it's just a quirk different ways to see you through all the same in the end peculiar star that's who you are do you have to win
Love this album and specially this song. I had a 70 Javelin going to Thunderbirds in Dundalk, MD playing the cars like all the others in their own hot rods. Thunderbirds was a drive in- type eating place which was a fancy Dairy queen set up much like the Sonics here in Texas. The "Cars" were big then and different than any other rock type group. They were bad ass and still this song is just as good as ever.
Their live stuff sounded just like studio-I did some recording at Boylston Sound in Boston where they did a lot of their stuff.-met them-Ben Orr was a wild man-Okasek had a crush on Amy Mann from 'Til Tuesday"--Bad Blood between them.
i got laid for the first time listening to this album the day it was released in phx az,i still get laid listening to it to this day. life has been great! ! THANKS CARS!

No harm under the 'Dashboard Lights', 'Racing in the Streets' (the police from time to time :) ) and all the great dance music that Punk and 'New Wave' (WhIch I think the CARS DEFINED) gave us !!!!
