Thank you so much for your kindness. I've always wanted to know more about Napoleon ever since I was child when I heard great stories about his bravery and courage. I shall look for more..as for those Brits..they never had any honor or shame..
@61111. Furthermore, without British pursuit for downfall of Napoleon, I don't see how a Napoleonic France posed more threat to British influence than a Bourbon France. After all, had Britain not actively pursued downfall of Napoleon, Napoleon wouldn't have conquered so much of Europe. At best, it seems Britain hated Napoleon, not for reasons which involves harming the British Empire, for ideological reasons. But it makes one wonder why Britain would be so involved for ideological reasons.
@61111. The continental system is only a response to Britain's consistent action of trying to sabotage peace in Europe with Napoleonic France. So it can't be a reason to why Britain wish the downfall of Napoleon. Had Britain not actively went to pursue the downfall of Napoleon there is no reason to believe why Napoleon would try to seal off the European market from Britain.
How has Britain benefited with downfall of Napoleon? I find it hard to understand why Britain need to bring the downfall of Napoleon. France and whole Europe was far less industrialized compared to Britain. And Napoleon didn't embark on a conquest to destroy the British colonies. So economically, Napoleon with France posed little economic threat to Britain. The old and undemocratic British Empire can truly be an enigma sometimes.
@TKKTism What about the continental system? Napoleon risked Britain the entire European continent as a market for their industrialized economy. However back then economics had much much less to do with politics than now. It wasn't a question of Napoleon's threat to the British economy but Britain dominance and influence in Europe.
This ending makes me incredibly sad. To think that this man once ruled nearly all of Europe is left broken and forgotten on some god forsaken island, imprisoned by the British. That poor man, I feel incredible pity for him. He lived a life of glory but could not get a glorious death. Better he had died at Waterloo than suffer this humiliating defeat.
@matthewy2j HOW COULD YOU SAY THAT!?! It would have been far worse for him to have died at waterloo! he would have been unable to write his memoires and maxims of military strategy for future generations to study and learn from!
Thank you so much for putting this series up. I thought about getting it on amazon but this is better. If you have any other documentaries like this, please put them up!
J agree with most of the comments posted..a truly masterful drama/documentary..I was sad it came to an end..so well produced I am grateful to you for posting these programmes..merci beau coup..vice la France..
Oh, and the Governor of St. Helena was represented so very much as an unsophisticated English Dickensian character - a wicked, miserable, jealous, petty, evil and ruthless, who hates the Napoleon and the civilization he represented and tried to spread and change Europe. The values the American revolution sparked in 1776, and the French revolution adopted in 1989.
the Enlightenment, Freedom and Liberty - exactly all those values which such mediocre and pathetic men coul not understand.
Beautiful film, but why that ridiculous fake French accent? It offends viewers intelligence.
There should be a difference made between "Allo, Allo" with Mr. Rene Artois and Mm. Edith of the Cafe " Rene" in Nouvion, and a movie with pretensions to look historically credible.
Thanks so much for uploading such wonderful series. I really enjoyed watching it on youtube. I thought maybe the creators of this series could have added a couple of Napoleon's other major victories such as Friedland and that of the six day battle just before Leipzig.
@jckrypton I think the British were scared to death of the possibility of Napoleon escaping for a second time and maybe this time none of the British generals would have been lucky like Wellington at waterloo. It was Wellington himself who had remarked that the battle at Waterloo was a very close affair and the French defeat was due to the failure of Napoleon's marshals at executing his orders rather than Napoleon himself.
@Janmejaya9 well what about when he was Emperor, why were the other European powers so afraid and despised him. He was in effect the result of the peoples revolution, a leader of the common man, of which the basis was of the French Revolution was, for men to be governed by a system were men could attain station by merit not by blood or tittle. So why did the Royals hate him so much??? :( he perused peace but instead got war on his return to Paris from Elba... :( sad really...
@jckrypton Your second statement answers your question as to why Napoleon was hated and feared by almost all the royal houses of Europe. :) You are completely right about that. The European royal houses were afraid that the lessons of the french revolution which advocated the ideals of liberty, fraternity and equality could threaten the concept of monarchy.
The other apparent reason was his military genius on the battlefields of Europe thus allowing him to dictate terms to the other powers.
@jckrypton Jan has already answered part of your question but the fact is this: Napoleon created a hegemony of French power under the family name of Bonaparte. Prussians, Austrians, British, nor Russians want Europe to be ruled under the French flag. It's not only a question of nationality, but also a great fear of seeing one's power or state becoming the property of another. Napoleon's ambitions conflicted with the ambitions of others. That is why, everyone feared him.
Though my only complaint with the seires was the battle of waterloo being too short, I thought this to be the best mini-series I have ever seen. The acting was great, it was historically acurate, and in some scenes, made me teary eyed. Thank you for uploading
Thank you SO MUCH for putting up this series! I had always wanted to see the English version, and you made that come true. I was literally crying at the end ;)!
It is an honor to learn the life of the greatest emperor, general and conqueror the world has ever seen. The man who fought and won more battles than Alexander, Hannibal and Caesar put together. A man who all of Europe in his hand, who had the great powers crumbling in fear.
@TotalWarEmpires: I was watching this other movie about Napoleon and instead napoleon escapes by switching places with his cousin and supposedly marries that girl from saint helena and they go to live in Louisiana. I looked up the evidence for this and to my surprise found out that it was mostly true also the French government did not want to test napoleon's remains in case that it actually wasn't Napoleon.
@vidman163 Another conspiracy theory! Elvis was captured by Castro and died in Cuba, and John F. Kennedy wasnn't fatally shot and disappeared with Marilyn Monroe and was never seen again!!!!
@TheVaughan5: Napoleon could have paid Hudson Lowe to escape who knows point is French government doesn't seem willing to find out. I saw JFK die his head exploded from the large bullet!
@TotalWarEmpires my understanding is that napoleon was cremated and at the end of the movie they speak of his ashes reaching the shores of france again, so i wonder how they checked his hair... that is if he really was cremated.
@1954507 why thank you, I'm glad to know that people appreciate it. I feel the same when someone else puts in the effort to upload things I can't find anywhere else, so I guess I'm just paying it forward :)
Come on! At least get his last words right! Personally I think it was far more interesting that his last word was Josephine, not Army.

Thank you for this series miss/ma'am!
This movie shows Napoleon as a person.....not the "God of War"
I very much appreciate it.
You know...How do the modern French view Napoleon?
I know he was Corsican, not French.
Much obliged and Thank you!
