  • Thank god, finally someone who plays a chorus pedal like it should be... not like those shitty guitar clinic blues styles

  • Under The Bridge :)

  • Hi... i've been trying to find out about what kind of chorus effect was used on the early cranberries albums. Do you think it was this one that they used?

  • PLEASE, answer me: what's the closest pedal to this one: BOSS CH-1 or BOSS CE-5? Thanks

  • I didn't really hear a big difference in stereo. Is it supposed to do something different besides come out of two amps?

  • the Mother of all Chorus.

  • do you run the fuzz before or after the chorus?

  • 4:31 Sounds like Elliott Smith (for a second). I Dunno.. Think Boss flanger through DL4 creates a better sound. Thumbs up on vid!

  • nice sound do you play on the fox ac30 i think so!

  • HORSE :D:D 7:32 - 7:38

  • The holy grail

  • Does anybody knows the name of the song at the beginning of the video?

  • witch nmusic is it at the begging of the video ?

  • i bought one off my buddys dad for 60 bucks! shitty thing is.... it stopped working. i wanna fix and sell it. can anyone suggest how i can fix it?

  • @splitsecondlogic bring it to a repair shop?

  • The first chorus pedal and the best one yet!!!

  • hehehe, "big moof"

  • what's the song in the intro of the video?

    thanks :)

  • what are you laying from 3:38 ? i really like it!

  • 'Bring On The Night' by the Police. G

  • @blondegraemey almost.. ;)

  • CE-1 -> Deluxe Electric Mistress -> Deluxe Memory Man = 80s Analog modulation heaven

  • The Retro Sonic Stereo Chorus CE-1 is a 1976 Boss CE-1 reissue, check it...

  • lol big moof

  • Man, that thing sure sounds full. Kicks the crap out of my Small Clone.

  • big Moof, awesome ^_^

  • i had mine 230 euros/300 dollars on ebay, sounds great

  • thumb up if you land on this videos thanks to john frusciante !

  • @fendermaxime In which song or songs does he use this one?

  • @BelgianCovers John uses it in many songs like Under the bridge (ending), Soul to squeeze, Mellowship slinky in B major (solo) etc...

  • What is the mystique about old gear? This pedal, the Boss OD-1, DM-2, etc, the 808 Tubescreamer, the original Marshall Guv'nor and Bluesbreaker pedals. Stomp boxes are constantly updated, but they're all judged on how much they sound like the 'legendary' original. WTF?! They must be the only technology that 'regresses' with every generation.

  • @zodiacbluesbaby well back then stuff was made better. more hands on. different wires and transistors and stuff like that make the pedal sound better than new ones that are made fast and crappy...

  • @zodiacbluesbaby its a fight between clarity vs warmth and Analog Vs Digital. newer products tend to have better clarity, as well as updated features and sometimes different compents like caps/circutboards. and sometimes even down right THIN tinny sounding. older pedals tend to have more "warmth" which i think is just they dont produce the harmonics the same way and also they cost alot more lol

  • Wow

  • this is the chorus frusciante used at the beatiful outro in under the bridge

  • I am addicted to chorus and this thing is beautiful!

  • Did these come with European plug as well?

  • Yes, they would have. G

  • big muff + ce-1 = john frusciante

  • Should have just got one of the new MXR analog chorus pedals. They sound sweet.

  • can you give me that please?

  • One of the few pieces of vintage gear I don't regret getting rid of. I bought one new when they first came out. Good sounds for sure, but so Goddamn noisy!

  • rotten

  • CE-5 Is ensemble too,.. Works same?

  • CAN I HAVE IT PLEASE?

  • Really useful vid. Thanks

  • it might just be me but i definitely like The Small Clone better it just seems more "Tweakable"

  • what are some good songs to play with chorus?

  • @jango512 soult to squeeze from the chili peppers.

  • @jango512

Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven? It definitely sounded different from the original, but to me, it sounded nice with my BYOC Analog Chorus.

  • this one is in guitar rig, its sounds perfect

  • I just got one of these pedals. It sounds great clean, but when I put the OD from my amp on, it sounds muddy; I'm not getting that same bite I normally get without the pedal. Is there anyway I can prevent this, and is the ce-1 true bypass?

  • @Sax1921 The CE-1 is being amplified and distorted by your preamp. Run it through the effects loop and it will be perfect. If you don't have an effects loop than overdrive with a pedal before the CE-1 and that will do it as well. I had a Retro Sonic that was true bypass and I hated it because I had a full brite signal with it off and no high end with it on. The CE-1 is warm but retains the high end and while not true bybass a simple line driver before it makes it all fit just right.

  • I just got one of these ce-1 chorus ensemble pedals, and it sounds incredible clean, but when I put the distortion from my amp on, with the effect on, or off, it sounds muddy to me. I'm not getting the same bite from my amp that I normally get without the chorus pedal. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening, and it the ce-1 true bypass?

  • Hi, the pedal is not true bypass.

You could possibly avoid the problems you have by running it through an effects loop.

    G.

  • do you think the electro harmonix small clone is a good copy?

  • I've never tried one. The demos I have heard sound good though.

  • I find they sound a lot different. Small clone is more Nirvana sounding. Analog.man makes a great small clone clone. Good sound files over there. I think the analog.man one has a bit more life and detail. Just me, maybe.

  • if you want a good copy of a ce-1 i'd look at a retro sonic, chorus ensemble, it is a clone of the ce-1, theres a demo, that compares the two, and it sounds flawless

  • Yeah..that a fuckn cool pedal in deed!

    Good demo mate.

  • i could of had one for £35 boxed 2 years ago in the local free ads and i was to late sounds

    great

  • What a nice chorus indeed. Really sweet!

  • heyy man, you have history at your studio!!! XDDD

  • is playing it with the gain on the amp sound any different than playing it with like a distortion pedal?

  • Yes, it will be a little different. G

  • What are you playing between 4:30 and 4:58 ? It is brilliant!

  • Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town by Kenny Rogers. G

  • i got one its great

    its easy to

and verry rare so your lucky if you have one (:

  • i have on of these too! :) great chorus.

  • do you recommend the mod to raise the low input impedance

  • It would be worth it if you want to use the pedal for live work. Mine is stock. The difference is minimal but noticeable. G

  • @blondegraemey

true bypass and buffer at the front before all of it too; got GAS. I think the MXR original is a great pedal too, if the chip burns out im done, its not a BBD but a CCD, the MXR can run at line level and it works in my Marshall DSl 401 where no other pedals do

  • reminds me pearl jam

  • It took me years to find one of these but I finally found one. I was lucky, it cost me £175. I've seen them for a lot more. They're a fantastic pedal. So good no one wants to part with them.

  • does anybody know where i can buy it?

I've lokked up on amazon and ebay but it was not there :(

  • try a vintage guitar shop, there get become very expensive though.. i myself am trying to find out

  • Please give me the songs you play

    Shoukdn be a problem right?

  • How do you mean?

  • the pedal is perfect .. does anybody know what 's the intro song???? it's amazing!!! if somebody knows please send..

  • It's my old band from the early 90's. The Track is called Brilliant. Sorry, it's not avaiiable anywhere. G

  • i thought that when you're in chorus mode the light on the left turns on.. the whole time you were playing the light on the right side was on..

  • you never switch to the chorus channel.. you're on vibrato the whole time..???

  • No, I start in Chorus mode then hit the switch (at 4.08) on the right for Vibrato mode. G

  • whats the intro song? it sounds awesome!

  • the tone reminds me of Prince for some reason. Either that, or a warped record. And that's always a COOL sound! :D

  • This is a great pedal. Can you run it through two amps at the same time?

  • Sure, that's what Im doing here. G

  • Hey hey..I got one of those, I picked it up new in the mid-70's used it for years to fatten the sound of a cheap upright bass. Nowadays I run my theremin through it, still a great chorus and vibrato.

  • i got one at home but i'm wanna sell it but dont know for how much. for how much didt you buy it?

    G

  • I paid about £200

  • Comment removed

  • its kinda got a def leppard kind of tone

  • you wouldnt happen to have the boss ce 2 would you?from what i here its the best chorus pedal out there.

  • The CE-2 is a really good pedal but the CE-1 is a lot better. The CE-2 is normal Boss sized, less rare and about 1/4 the cost so more people use them but the CE-1 is the one to get if you really love chorus and have the money. I have the CE-2 and it's cool but the CE-1...

  • @joeyring27 You should get Robert Keely to mod your CE2. I sent him mine and it's amazing!!

  • i've got a CE 2 for sale if u want it.

  • is it the japan model or taiwan, hows the condition, and it still a workin pedal?

  • all, works. its on ebay right now, if u look up 'Boss CE-2 CE2 CE 2 Chorus Pedal VGC' you should get it, my ebay name is Venice--King if you wanna look it up

  • Very nice vid mate. You should get one of those Retro-Sonic Choruses as well. Seeing that you have 100+ pedals, maybe you have...

  • how many pedals do u have?!

  • About 130/140? and I still want more! G

  • hey it's me again, I love to stalk this video haha. I'm getting one of these for 250 bucks in mint condition!!! (STEAL) And I got it thanks to you, you're the only one tht has a reliable demo of this effect and I always watch this. Can't wait to get it ;)

I'm not sure, but I believe I heard keyboards in your song at the introduction...so I'm guessing that your band was a group of 4?

  • There were five of us. Guitar (me), bass, drums, keys and a singer. Hope you enjoy your pedal, don't forget to try it in stereo! G

  • will it sound good stereo mode if y conct both putputs of the pedal to 2 imputs on my amp..(Fender Hot Rode DEville modified) With nice NOS Tubes and 4 Jensen Speakers

  • What stereo amp setup are you using?

  • Hi, it's a Fender Twin and Vox AC30. G

  • 06:26 like HILLEL SLOVAK!!

very nice sound, I was tried to find this sound for a long time.. thanks man!

  • Hillel used a Boss CE2 by the way ;)

  • And also John Frusciante^^

  • 5:22 God !!!!

  • bring on the night...couldn't stand another hour of dayyylightt

good choice and fantastic demo mate :)

  • turned the video off after the big muff came on...

  • thats great anton what did you do next? please keep us informed

  • Alex Lifeson used this when it first came out

  • so did Andy Summers and David Gilmoure, and 100 other guitarists

  • yeah but Alex Lifeson is better

  • oh yea? well I never said anything about them being better, and I also didn't ask for your opinion, so what you said is just irrelevant

  • He's good, but In my opinion, Gilmoure is much better. Lifeson is a good rhythm player, but Gilmoure is an amazing lead and rhythm player.

  • Aaagggh. These are two of my favorite guitarists...i can't even begin to compare them. Alex is an incredible lead player as well though...although unfortunately his later work doesn't show it to its full extent. From 1975 to 1984 he was on fire though (in my opinion). Have you ever seen Gilmour live?

  • smooth

  • una obra maestra

  • Same question ^^

  • can any one tell me what guitar sound is the "demo" song thats appears at the begining of the video. seems like edge`s sound on the first albums of u2..

  • It's my old band from the early nineties called Candleman Summer. The track is called Brilliant. G

  • Sounded good til he hit the overdrive pedal.

  • Mate, you get one of them Retro-Sonic Chorus. Not sure if you gig with that Chorus Ensemble or not, but you definitely have to check it out... :D

  • this is an awesome sounding pedal fo sho

  • Does anyone knows why they stopped making it?

  • Boss replaced this with the CE2 from the first range of compact pedals. They stopped making all the large box pedals like this. G

  • r u serious, its ashame they stopped making them, they would be so much more cheaper, i would buy one in flash, same with ibanez wh-10/ wf-10

  • yeah like JOHN FRUSCIANTE, my hero

  • same here. so influential, and amazing guitarist.

  • 6:20 it sounds like a flanger... amazing

  • i just scored one of these.

  • for $500?

  • Thus is THE Chorus pedal, amazing sound

  • what im saying is that Electro Harmonix is better than Boss. Sorry if you didnt understand. I am from Latin America and my english is not that good.

  • did boss used to not make sucky pedals or something?

  • What do you mean by 'sucky'?

  • well boss pedals nowadays are all digital-sounding, with harsh tones and over-the-top effects that really only sound good in a guitar shop.

the only reason they're so popular is marketing; every guitar shop i've been to has a whole station of just boss pedals

when i was a n00b i liked boss, but now that i've heard the other great tones there are, i don't

  • tones fron Electro Harmonix for example

  • what do you mean?

  • Some boss pedals are ok. The Ds-1 and DS-2 are pretty good. Some of their pitch shifting and reverb effects are pretty good too. But I agree with you in the fact that I don't like that they're all digtal.

  • I own one ;) Paid like $220 (1700sek) for it! Actually used it on a school gig this morning :) Great Pedal! Nice playing Btw^^

  • do you know about Frusciante's pedal or rig?...I want to buy some pedals to make a sound with my fender as frusciante's sounds in californication...like Emit remmus...please help...if you can send me a message is better =)

  • In the californication era he used:

    Boss Turbo Distortion

    Boss Distortion

    Boss Fuzz

    Boss CE-1 Chorus

    Ibanez WH-10 Wah

    MXR Micro Amp

  • He used

    1 - Boss DS-2 TurboDistortion

    2 - Boss FZ-3 Fuzz

    3 - MXR Phase 90

    4 - Ibanez WH-10 Wah

    5 - Boss CE-1 Chorus Ensemble

    during the californication tour.

  • has the same sound of retro sonic chorus

  • John Frusciante uses one of these, or he did during the Californication pedal.

  • still does

  • Yeah I saw a recent picture of his rig (It's huge!) and i thought I saw one somewhere in there.

  • its only getting bigger too lol

  • a think he still using this pedal

  • I do too. I think I saw it in picture of his pedal board. But I know for sure he used it during the Californication tour.

  • I noticed you played bring on the night around 3:40, very nice! great video and great playing!

  • This pedal is the oldest chorus pedal ever, but I think it's the nicest chorus ever, the ce-5 is good but not as this one, for some effects the newest models are better, but defenetly not for this one. Power Supply included! What's better? :)

  • I still ahve mines, but its not powering up. I need to check the power chord first Might have to have it repaired.

  • frusciante uses this onee

  • what's the difference between the CE-1 the CE-2 and the CE-5?

  • The 2 and 5 are Boss compact pedals.

  • I knew that, I meant as sound quality, I guess since the CE-1 and the CE-2 are analogue are way better than the CE-5, but can I still get the same tone with the CE-5?

  • would the boss ce-5 be anything like this one :'(

  • I have a CE-5 and it is a good chorus. You can get some old-school sounds by using the EQ feature to darken the sound. Not exactly like this CE-1 but a good sound in it's own right.

  • Just beautiful man.

  • Very good sounding machine!

  • sounds like the ce-2 but you get more sounds out of this!

  • It's like having TWO effects pedals in one !! And the beauty of it is that you can individually set the parameters (of the vib/chorus) and very easily switch between the two (or OFF) effects.

i grabbed one on ebay for a bargin price of £90 (though cosmetically it is somewhat dilapidated). One sold yesterday on ebay for £150 and i have seen them fetch over £300 !!

  • I got mine in Spring 2007 for $100 on ebay, my lucky day for sure! It actually WORKED when it showed up too, I was a bit worried.

  • Lucky !!!! Lucky beyond reason you should say... I can never nail one under $300. Congrats and enjoy. DON'T EVER SELL THIS ONE...

  • very lucky

  • What I like about your videos is that once you start playing you go through the controls fairly quickly but thoroughly and tastefully ... (I personally do not care for demos that get into longwinded ego voyages). Great job

  • Ever think of building a cline or would it be impossible? I know nothing is impossible these days but you know what I mean.

  • Beautiful pedal. That pedal is a year older than I am. It looks like a tank and very user friendly. How hard was it to find it? It really does sound great, I'm very impressed with Boss right now. Where is it made, Japan? Can you suggest a good chorus?

  • This one was made in Japan.

Boss make a new modeling pedal based on this but Ive never played one.

  • I don't know why more chorus pedals have just the plain vibrato setting. Isn't essentially chorus just vibrato with the dry signal mixed in?

  • that would be cool if boss would do a reissue of this pedal

    in a twin pedal format..

  • Universal Audio has a very good reissue as software on their UAD card.

I know that it ain't the real deal, but i had to buy the real for half the price of an UAD card (±$ 500), and this card has a lot more famous effects on it, and on the UAD it's a stereo i/o

  • they have i think

they call it the CE 20

    but its nothing like this.

    its all modern not vintage.

  • Ive just bought one of these lil beauties.. i havent got it yet tho .. but cant wait.. Graemey, great demo and i love some of the little licks u are playing on this .. top stuff all round mate ! :)

  • Thanks for that! Best of luck with the new pedal, you'll love it!

  • the chorus is the best great playing great tone but could u do a vid of you playing it with the vox ac30 as im a big brian may fan just want to listen how it sounds
