George Barris must suffer from dementia. For some reason he thinks he was the sole designer and fabricator on every car that ever became popular in a feature film or Television show. Even the neat ones that he did have a hand in (the 1966 Batmobile and the Munsters Koach) were designed and built by other people. Why must he take credit for other people's work?
You can read and see a bit more about the creator of this replica, Peter Mosen, by Googling the following:
"July 1989 Car Craft mag replica Ecto-1 article".
Barris's claims are demonstrably false, and the GBfans thread that links to definitively proves as much. My apologies for being so pedantic on the subject, but Barris drives me up a wall for taking credit for things he ought not to.
Apologies for being pedantic, but Barris drives me up a wall. His claims are demonstrably false.
As has been stated several times in the attached thread and contrary to Barris's claims, this is not the hero car.
This is certainly a replica -- it was built by superfan Peter Mosen, presumably around 1988 or '89. The give away is around 3:05 when you see the gear in the back.
Hes such a bad liar. Anyone who believe this guy is an idiot.
Note how he says "unique electronic variable speeds" when referring to the ghostbusting equipment inside the car. He has no idea what hes talking about.
From what I have read this douche bag didn't make 1 car he claims he made, even the Batmobile. He just sold the car to the guys that turned it into the Batmobile.
Typical Barris, lying through his teeth. He DID NOT build ECTO 1, it's insane that he made up all these "stories" *arm over shoulder of the other guy* "yup when we designed ECTA, BLAH BLAH BLAH"
I will give him this, there was two cars that were used in the first Ghostbusters movie, but the two cars were the ambulance that makes that one appearance early on in the film and then the actual Ecto itself, there was only one actual Ecto(listen to the dvd commentary and they mention how they only had one Ecto 1).
It's a nice replica, but it ain't the real car. The real car is on tour promoting the game and other GB stuff
I'm fairly certain that clip you speak of in the first GB 's where you see this Pro Car pulling up to the old fire station. Before she's converted in to the Ecto unit. She was actually a "combination car" not a straight Ambulance. A combo is a hearse /ambulance. A unit that serves both purposes in one vehicle that would have been operated by a funeral home.
A shame she wasn't converted back to her original look.
You can honest to God tell it's not one of the film Ecto's seeing that the No Ghost logos that are on the back door, driver's side door and passenger's side door are a bit too small, I do believe those were bigger.
This guy needs to have a cease and dissit order filed against him for his claims about Ecto just like they did to him with the Back to The Future delorean.
@JBell06 yes, I have an after restoration pic as my wallpaper, and it's just of the rear door, and the no ghost is MUCH bigger, almost to the window chrome
Yeah, we've seen it, too. Been in and out of this place twice. Anyone here at this museum is paid to tell you that it is on loan from the studios, etc.
This guy is such a liar. This is a promotion replica that was never used in any movie. He talk like he was the one who build it. He was not involved at all in the construction of the 2 original ecto-1 and the original ecto 1-A. Just like the BTTF DeLorean, he take credit for the works of others. Don't visit this museum, it's all fraud.
I went to this museum in april of this year. This is located in Gatlinburg tn. My jaw dropped when I saw ecto-1. This, besides herbie and the bttf delorian is one of my most favorite movie vehicles.
ecto-2? ecto-2! you mean ecto-1A from ghost busters 2 common mistake ecto-2 is the helicopter from the series the real ghost busters

"This ones autographed by all the actors"
I guess according to this guy, Ernie Hudson played all the characters in Ghostbusters.
Not to mention any true GB fan can tell a fake Ecto-1. The front of that cat looks nothing like the real deal.
really bad liar

@Sniffeh yeah man considering they only used 1 Ecto for the movie =) and that was refurbished by Sony etc =P

hopefully they restore that one someday as well.
