when you cast out the line is slack, so why does the float sink also? i know the lead pulls it down but because the line is slack shouldnt the float naturally come up in the water?
@superste53 When feeling around on the bottom of the lake for features i.e Gravel, Silt etc the line is tight and the float is pulled against the lead. When you want to find out the depth of the area you are wanting to fish, you then loosen your drag or flick on your baitrunner and peel off 12inches (1ft) of line until the float pops to the surface. By counting to amount of times you pull out 1ft of line you therefore have worked out the depth of water. Hope that helps!
