Man I saw this a few years back, I was maybe 16, and I didn't really pay attention to the racism, what I really liked was the whole back story, and watching how they interacted with each other and their environment.
hi Denzel washington i am diljit singh from new delhi i m your big fan i watching your all films and my fovrite films (virtuosity) (unstoppable) (the book of eli) (the taking of pelham 123) (the bone collector)
some one PLEASE tell me the ending i was watching it and i had to leavee whats happends afte he say after i find yo a job well go our sepret ways does he really leave him
@ugotwasted212 No Walter quits his job, finds out his son is a genius and is starting his freshman year at Northwestern. Walter catches up with him, they both ride off into the sunset on their way to Evanston.
maybe it was funny back then but for me isn't funny at all, just shows how racist ppl can fuck your life if you make the right decision, I did not find the comic side of the movie (exept for the part when walter find an apartment and a job lol) but in general the movie pissed me!
When he was very young he was at a barber shop with his mother and an old lady asked his mother to write his full name down. When his mother asked why she said "Because he's going to entertain millions one day". His mother gave the old lady his name and it wasn't until later that they found out she was rumored to be some kind of local fortune teller.
This movie is funny but it shows how racist people can be especially those who are white and upper class not saying they all are. When is having sex with a black person committing a sin.
LOL....what's REALLY funny is how accurate the wife's reaction to the prospect (now known as the reality) of God being black. "You will burn in hell!" She exclaims to her husband at the mention of the truth. LOL! Now THAT'S rich! Kudos to the writer!
This movie's message was the opposite of racism. Roger Porter plays on Walter Whitney's prejudices by giving him exactly what he would expect to see in his out-of-wedlock, bi-racial son, and Walter never questions any of it. That line about picking the lock was a line of bull, but Walter had no trouble believing it. Roger: "You looked at me, and you saw black." Turns out his son is a pre-med student, and despite being poor, he won't need Walter's life or his money. It was NEVER about that.
I saw this on television about 2 years ago. Although it didn't strike me as a blockbuster, it was interesting.
I was born about a year before the release of this film, and I was shocked to learn that Denzel had been acting even before this film. Damn, he's definitely a veteran.
i was born about 6 years after this film came out its kind of wierd for me to see one as my fav actors back then which is about the same age i am now you know what i mena?
At least in the USA, non-racing cyclists have been wearing helmets since at least the early 70's. Considering from '72-'74, more bicycles were sold than automobiles in the States, it's not really all that surprising that there'd be corresponding safety education.
This movie was the bomb when I was a kid. It gets ragged on a lot, but it's a funny little movie. I heard that Denzel is ashamed of it, which is a shame, everyone has to start somewhere. Lighten up, Denzel.
it is just a brilliant movie, it's about some great laugs and thinking out of the box! this is a message and i doubt i interpret to much into this! colour, gender, religion does not matter, it's about the being, the human being itself! we are all the same!
This movie! LOL!!! I was like 6 when this came out! Wow it seems so much more racist now! " Why are we walking next to the Ocean?" " In case I decide to throw myself in"
This movie had it's moments, but I think it missed the mark. It was trying to be something more, but ended up being less. Racism is a delicate and complicated subject, and it's very easy to mess up a movie about it. Roger Porter is supposed to be doing a caricature of a caricature, but too much time is dedicated to this, and the point ends up getting lost. It's unfortunate. With smarter editing and writing, I think the movie could've been brilliant, but it isn't.
Maybe it was supposed to be a parody...but the ONLY reason to watch the movie is for Denzel. He is so likeable in this movie. I saw the movie before Denzel was even a household name. OH and the song at the end of the movie by England Dan Seals is pretty good.
This movie was so filled with negative stereotypes. When it first came out people booed it for its racist attitude. "Show me how to fly a kite, I'll show you how to pick a lock".
Yeah it IS filled with negative stereotypes but remember...it's comedy and alot of times that's what comedy is about...stereotypes. So don't take it to heart; I didn't. It's not too negative...it's funny as hell. I like it although I would change some of the stereotypical dialogue if I had my way.
Wrong lhuttonwork, this is Denzel first film debut. He's done tv before that yes. Btw, Denzel has still got the same good looks after 27 years, damn. Many people thought it was very racist but not then actually.
lmaooooo damn denzel.

Yes it's a little cringe worthy now but it was funny at the time. I laughed loads when I was a kid.
Denzel shouldn't be ashamed, it's the movie that got him noticed and it was basically just a sign of the times.
Anyway the irony in the end of the film made up for the stereotypes at the beginning.

Yep, Bill Conti. Who also did the music for James Bond's "For Your Eyes Only", which in my opinon, had the best music in the series.
