  • well said mr. sinclair

  • The Americans need to dig out from under 60 years of Socialist democrat welfare state policies, learn to READ the Constitution, and get the federal government AND OUT TAXES the hell out of things the fed has no business being involved in.

Nowhere in the Constitution does it say the Fed is responsible for feeding, clothing, housing, educating or providing health care or retirement "benefits" to the constituency. Stop trying to turn it into an over regulated socialist welfare state.

  • @echovector 2 thumbs up!!

  • @echovector but they dont have jobs there all in chaina and india

  • i first heard this when i was 15...fell in love with Sinc's woords. i read this to all my classes every year on 9/11. They have all loved it. Thanks to Mr. Sinclair and to Canada!!!

  • scottyurb hope your still in love with

Obama the worst pres in history he makes

Carter look like the best prez in history I'm praying this country can recover from

    obamanomics

  • @buster67671 The United States needs to dig out of the eight years of Elephant Dung piled up by Bush and the Republicans. Sadly, the Republicans regained control of the House, and they are so disloyal that they are willing to wreck the government and deny disaster relief to those devastated by hurricanes and tornadoes, so that "business as usual" can continue for their rich and greedy friends.

  • Hey john365303: Just out of curiosity, what country do you come from where the people are smarter, more generous and less selfish than Americans?

  • Uldvardt, Thank you for the comments and not making this political. As an American I too, and many of my American friends, truly appreciate Canada and Canadians.

  • We thank Canada, as we always will, for its loyalty and friendship. In troubled times, whether 1973 or now, you find out who your real friends are. Mr. Sinclair points out vividly what truly makes America great. If you help someone because you expect to be thanked or rewarded, you're doing it for the wrong reason. We help because we're Americans, and that's what makes us the good guys.

  • This was true in 1973.

  • Watching this gives me hope. Now, let's shed the country of the cloud of socialism so we shall remain strong.

  • Gordon Sinclair was a terrific man, no sugar coating with him, he told it just the way it was.

We need more people like him today, instead of mindless talking shills we have today. Sinc had character!

  • Canada sticks up for its big brother!

  • This is a sweet thought, but there is something everybody needs to understand, WE DO NOT EVER ASK FOR HELP! We don't need nor do we want it. We don't need the world, the world needs us! Without Americans or the United States the world goes into turmoil! We are the axel to the wheels that runs the world, without us the world commerce doesn't turn.

Oh yeah, WE LIKE THE OPINION THAT WE ARE DECADANT WAR MONGERS! So there!

  • we almost always here only bad things about us we do great things just for the sake of helping .but there are people who would ues those things for their own gain thats what we most be watchful for .

  • I'd have to disagree that it's a sad day to be an American. I'm more encouraged than I've been in a decade. We're digging out of the economic crisis, and our GDP is still far exceeding any other country. The positive growth is just too rarely reported.

  • Would love to see America just pull back from the world. I get so tired of hearing the anti america crap. Just put up the signs that say no entry pull all the military back fix our nation and start expanding out to the stars.

  • Finally I ve heard the words I d say myself. As Canadian of Ukrainian origin I d jsupport this our famous journalist point. And add more - dear Americans be prpud of your generous coumtry.

  • it is indeed terrible to be american right now. not because i hate this country or its people. but because we are judged upon 1% of our population and the actions of our former presedent. we also commited several mistakes during the cold war for reasons i really dont feel like getting in to. normal americans like me know about the world around us. we visit other countrys and enjoy them. we recognise our flaws and try to improve from them. in other words god bless america.

  • @nerain16 It's never a terriable time to be an American and the actions of our former president were not in the best interest of the people but the cold bloodied megalomaniac that occupies the White House now is by far the worst president in the history of America

  • There was at least one other version of this speech to make the Billboard charts. Does anybody else know who also did it?

  • @imthedorf1964 A guy named Charles Ashman put out a record "An American's Answer (TO Gordon Sinclair)." It didn't chart nationwide, but got some airplay. You can find it on YouTube using key words Charles Ashman Answer . There is a stupid slide show with it but they use the song thinking they're making a point or something...

  • @MBFLA45 The version I was thinking of was done by another Canadian newsman, Byron MacGregor. His version of The Americans reached #4 on the Billboard charts, whereas Mr. Sinclair's only reached #24.

  • I adore this man immensely!!

Damn cheap tipper, yet a dear

    and sweet friend!

    Bonus!!

  • I love this guy, not because he speaks great of the us but because he says it as it is!

  • @elpee77 Well said.

  • @tnick2 - you, Sir or Madam, are an ass! And an ignorant, ill-informed, prejudiced one, to boot. I wish you all the joy and happiness that life in a socialist "utopia" affords...which is to say few and little.

  • @tnick2 Your are very ill informed and not all canadians have the stereotypical accent

  • Thanks for posting this, Jay.

  • Check your meds and lay off the kool aid!

  • wtf are you high

  • In light of the American aid winging its way to Haiti right now, I just had to show this video to the Americans I work with. 37 years after he first read this, Gordon Sinclair's words still resonate. Makes me proud of my home country.

  • Rest in peace Gordo. And thank you.

  • A breath of fresh air.

  • I Love America, screw all you haters who hate on this great country!

  • Hell YEah!! he's so right..we bale out the whole world and get shitted on...

And guitarplayer2441: The reason why Obama doesn't talk like this is because he is not pro- American..He is a afriand to stand up for his own country because of what other anti-Americans will say about him..disgracefulll!!!!!!!

  • God bless Sinc. He was a good man and called it as he saw it. Clear-minded men with strong opinions, and are not afraid to voice them, have become a rare thing in this worlds media. Most are pathetic little men without spine or sinew. Our present president is an awful, immature, ignorant, inexperienced, little petulant child. And to make it worse, he and his disgusting wife clearly have collective chips on their shoulders and display a racist bent.

Sad days to be American, Sinc would not like it

  • @ganzano Sadly, clear minded men who call it as they see it are often attacked for their insight.

  • @fatkinson1954 That's why Ron paul didn't get elected. I would have voted for him.

  • @ganzano He wouldn't have liked your blessing very much. He was a staunch atheist.

  • @Libertyjack1 - Not slaient, Libertyjack1, not one little bit. I often say a prayer for people who have no idea I am doing so. It is simply my way of observing the golden rule in my life. "Do unto others..." did not have a qualifier associated with it. We need a return to treating each other with respect, dignity, and civility.

  • why can't obama talk like this.....what happened to all of the grown ups in this great country....

  • O my god ...this conversation makes sense O.o

  • Our national motto should be "America: proof that no good deed goes unpunished". It's amazing how similar the circumstances are between then and now - just coming out of a war (Vietnam->Iraq), economic downturn, and a promising new president (Reagan->Obama). We will come out of this okay, just like we did 30 years ago. This time, however, I hope we do not quickly forget those countries that kicked us when we were down...

  • Don't go too far with the comparisons. Obama resembles Reagan in no way. In fact, you can find quite a few speeches on this site by Reagan, and in many of these he damns the socialist philosophies of our current President.

  • Well yes, I didn't really mean they were clones. But if you ask a lot of people who voted for Reagan (I'm too young to have), a lot of them crossed party lines to vote (see "Reagan Democrats"), similar to how many traditional Republicans voted for Obama. People were voting for "change", and they were proud of it! That was the point I was trying to make.

  • Change is fine. I for one would support a REAL change of pace with a SMALLER budget and SMALLER annual deficit. But then, that has not happened yet in American history.

That would be change. However, we're racing in the opposite direction, toward central planning and, quite honestly, soviet style majoritarian rule.

Even if for the best intentions, the results are not going to be pleasant.

Not a reflection on your comments, just some thoughts of my own that you guys triggered.

  • You know what? I agree with you. I dont think signing huge bailout bills for the same groups that caused these problems are fixing anything. The only thing it does is devalue the dollar.

  • Wellll.... the bailout bills are being signed by people who caused these problems. Failure of some business ventures is a natural bumper-guide of economics, but the government propping up failed ventures, most likely for the union constituents, is bad.

Simply put, government has no justification, other than that of political bribery for votes, to step into the economy. Let individuals do as they see best fit with their own money and the economy will be fine.

  • Very well put and i agree with you.

  • Actually, the reason subprime loans came about in the first place is because of the GSEs (Government sponsored enterprises) which were arranged and ordered to guarantee any loan, no matter how foolish. You might have heard of Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac...

Secondly, it was government officials, in concert with left wing activist intimidation campaigns (ACORN) which coerced banks into increasing their risktaking and selling it off to the GSEs.

I recommend Sowell's new book Housing Boom and Bust.

  • our economy was anything but hands off, where as the big command economys, like the USSR and cuba are poor and dieing

  • Get informed, man. It was the "hands on" approach by Congress that pushed banks to lend to people that could not afford it. Ask Barney Frank about that. But ur too brainwashed to realize the truth anyways. At least try to look at the situation and understand. And if you think that our economy isn't regulated, you are retarded. Also, I'll take our growth over the growth of any country. If you cant take the pain of capitalism, go move to some socialist country.

  • did the government make them leverage every dollar lent at 40-1 instead of 12-1 like in the past?no that was he greedy bankers that did that

  • @osp80 Very naive. The bankers can't do anything without government approval and backing.

  • when, they own the government they can get whatever they want

  • @osp80 You've got it backwards. The government owns them. The government is the one with the power, as they are the ones with the guns. They are the ones who pick winners and losers.

  • no,the banks and lobbyists own the government.they buy politicians to do their will

  • You're missing the point. The banks can't do squat without the backing of the government. Sure they buy off politicians, but without laws passed, they have no power over you. You're acting as if the politicians have no will but to do what the banks tell them, when in reality, the banks have no power without the politicians granting them that power. i.e. Bank of America can't force you to open a BoA account, but the govt can force you to do anything.

  • do you understand the point of a lobbyist?they can get the government to change the laws to their purpose.techically, the government has the power but if the banks have the power to buy the actual politicians technicalities don't matter.they got the laws changed how they wanted and blew up the economy

  • @larrybud

I think you've missed the point. AIG was "too big to fail", effectively subjugating power to the corporation by way of coercion. The argument could be made that the government should not allow such businesses to grow to such a size, but that still does not change what has happened, that is, their own personal bailouts

I agree with your thesis, "politicians are mostly at fault", but also blame high institutions such as Harvard Bus. School, who are teaching these bad business practices

  • Hyper-capitalism is taught in these institutions that continually pump out our future leaders. Perhaps we'd be better off if the Ivy League was unable to run for office......

  • @mtb416 What institutions? What are you talking about? LONG LIVE CAPITALISM.

  • @Luc1sz lol America is socialist champ. Ever heard of Welfare? or how about that universal health care you guys are working on?

  • Despite whoever we voted for, we are all in the same boat. If we sink, we all sink. And I hope we do remember the countries who are gloating over our troubles now. This video is almost as poignant now as it was then. I remember in December 2003, after a devastating earthquake in Iran, the first country to send in aid was the U.S. -after all our quarrels with Iran, we were the first to send in planes of supplies. After Katrina, I think only Canada sent any help to the Gulf coast.

  • Obama is promising? Really, well I guess your either brainwashed or just believe everything you read. This man is a fraud if there ever was one.His policies are slowly killing the economic engine of America.

  • obama had only been in office about 6 months when you wrote this, what earth shaking policies had he enacted then or even now.he sides with corporate power nearly every time and always bows to right wing pressure yet ironically he gets called a communist by people like you.the policies that you support are killing america

  • any reason you called me a dumbass?

  • Reagan was not President in 1973, it was Nixon, followed quickly by Ford in 74

  • It's kind of eerie that this still applies over 30 years later. Can anyone send me the file? I'd really like a copy.

  • No matter how things change, they remain the same....Thanks blu65!!

  • I've heard it but it warms me to think that the USA had at least ONE friend in the Canadian news media back then. I doubt we have any there now. They just accept all the negative stories at face value.

  • I have this many times!

    Thank you Blue65 for sending.

  • Thanks to Blue 65 for sending me this one. I applaude you and thank you kindly.

  • love this....we will get out of this pinch we are in.

  • Let's hear it for Gordon Sinclair as well.

  • I hope we do go broke.. only for the purpose of giving the world what it wants... a reclusive USA. Bring the Military/Navy home. Shoot down any plane that comes over the ocean.. Build the Wall. And then watch everything fall.

  • 9/11 today. Sinclair was up on his time. Need more like him rather than Rathers, Obamas, Bidens, Oprahs and Hollywood. A bunch of cowards that should be sent over to Europe so they can engage in Socialism and soon enough Communism. They are a disgrace, you are their sheep! I'd be embarrassed to route for failure like obama. McCain 2008!!!!!

  • Sinclair was a liberal who would have most likely supported Obama.

  • I don't agree. Sinclair would have looked at obamas experience and laughed. Obmas associates and friends and really laughed!Keep watching msnbc and cnn so you can stay uninformed about the truth.

  • You probably didn't even know who Gordon Sinclair was before watching this..

  • I knew who Gordon Sinclair was in the mid seventies. I grew up in a good family that had a tape of him (the original recording).Sorry to bust your bubble, but I'm sure you can't go back to the mid seventies on him. In fact I'm sure my Mom still has the old tape of this. My Dad was in radio for 30 years by the way.Go on.....

  • brown nose.

  • Every school kid in this country should learn this. I'm sure they get enough of the "America Sucks" stuff.

  • Canada helps you!

  • He is talking about the level we help everyone else...really.

  • This Canadian agrees wholeheartedly with Mr. Sinclair. Americans are the most generous and underappreciated people on Earth.

  • Thank you and God Bless you and Gordon Sinclair

  • This guy kicks ass. USA! USA!

  • Thank you for posting~Proud to be American!

  • God bless Gordon Sinclair and God bless America.

  • this moves me to tears and makes me PROUD to be an American!

  • Bravo Bravo Bravo

  • Excellent. Abolish the U.N.! Everyone join the U.S.A.!

  • Still true today.

  • Keep in mind folks that Sinclair made $1 million US from the record sales of this speech. He donated every penny to the American Red Cross. A million dollars was a lot of dough in the early seventies.

  • @jaycummings1964 That would be proof that one man can make a difference. Let Mr. Gordon Sinclair be the example for being as true and American as anybody in the U.S.

  • America gets criticized by many countries for "pursuing her own interests" as though they themselves are altruistic. Not one of them would have lifted up their enemies from the rubble as the United States did Japan and Germany or rebuild Europe. All now bite the hand that fed them. It's been said if you lose your wallet, better hope it's an American sitting next to you on the bus. They are bar none the most generous people on earth, the best to be trusted with enormous power.

  • This still holds true today, despite what the left thinks. Vote for McCain!

  • thanks for the reminder.its 2008 and canada needs another gordon sinclair to speak up.

  • from this Canadian its 100% true
