I always loved the visual of the roaming death hordes wearing some sort of red tied around them which I didn't see in this trailor. The interactions with them were minimal in book I hope they keep it that way. Viggo will bring it. No doubt in my mind. I'm curious to see who is cast as the final guy who has "seen some skirmishes"- probably be Duvall.
I do agree that the explanation of the cause will kill it.
I think the movie is not gonna be as good as the book. I agree, too much colors in the movie. Don't like the actress for the wife's character...but I think the actor for the main character is pretty accurate.
I agree, the scenery is a bit too colorful than i expected. Because what i imagined from the book is that everything's grey... covered in ash. Which brings me to the next point, if they show what this "event" was, i'm going to be pissed. And from the trailer the movie looks like a survival-horror, when it was not, it was more than that.
You're going to catch a bunch of crap for the Fallout 3 comparison, but Bethesda DID take quite a bit from The Road. I'm convinced that the shopping carts are gigantic easter eggs.
If this movie is true to the book, then you should walk out of the theater with your head down and the most depressing feel you have had. But that doesn't sell movie tickets. After reading the book, I thought about a movie and knew a true translation would never sell. I hope I am wrong. But I think it will be more "Mad Max" like. Bright spot should be Robert Duval, if he is true to form. I will probably see it, but doubt it will hold true to the story. Let's hope it does.
The added blockbuster music, more explosions than there ever should be, gunfights, added a date for the Event, gave it a climate disaster explanation to suit the zeitgeist and obviously have been delaying the release to edit it to be more madmax-y.
I mean is it that hard to have a faithful adaptation made these days ??? the Coen's did it with McCarthy's No Country because they only touch products that they have complete control over I know that John Hillcoat the director of the brilliant The Proposition is helming this but i don't believe he's got the shear desolate look or the severely bleak morose spirt that should make it almost unwatchable it should be soul crushing but I'm guessing asses in cinema seats are more important.
My guess is they pulled the rug from under Hillcoat in the edit room and toned it down several notches. Just look of how delayed the realease has been, they're obviously tampering with it, to make less "risque".
I wouldn't be surprised if they eliminated the hues there were in the production photos and edited out the carnage...
Seems like a major departure from the book. Explaining the cataclysm? Emphasis on the wife? Could be a good thing, but most likely a bad thing. They should have just hired the Coen Brothers to do it (ha!)
A lot of people seeing this trailer expecting a post-apocalyptic action-thriller will be disappointed. They're apparently staying relatively faithful to the book, which was brilliant but by no means a joy ride.
Hollywood loves to shoot itself in the foot creating false expectations.
Been a while and I could be wrong but first time I heard it is in starcraft if I remember correctly. I think it's one of the sounds it makes when you click a terran unit but I don't remember which one (marine or firebat?). It could have been used elsewhere prior to that though. And yes, they do use it often here and there.
Viggo's destined for an Oscar nod for this, if not the little gold dude himself. The random natural disaster footage is just for the trailer, to give ppl an idea of something big happening to doom the world -- and the action-oriented vibe is misleading -- Bob Weinstein thinks it will sell more tickets. All indications are, though, that the real talent behind this have nailed the adaptation, and fans of the book are in for a cinematic tour-de-force of a treat.
Amazing book, I hope the movie doesn't disappoint.

I'm guessing the trailer isn't fully treated fx-wise, the picture looks way too bright at 0:57 what do people reckon?
reptarthe9th 2 years ago
Yeah, pretty sunny if the sky is supposed to be blocked out with raining ash.
dukeofpoopington 2 years ago
exactly, doesn't seem to have the tone of the book translated properly so hope it is an effects type thing that hasn't been finished yet.

It's just a crappy stock sound effect that people have been using and re-using for years. I hope this director has the good sense not to rely on it.
