yeah, notice that the bird can land on the top of the trap? if you'd make it so the spring goes down and make a point on the end facing up, then the bird's forced to go on the trigger stick.
Actually this is really a pretty ingenius modification of the conventional ojibwa (spelling?) bird trap. I've used this before and can honestly say that it is an improvement to the counterweighting method that uses a large stone or log as a weight. My only real problem with this type of trap is the difficulty in constructing and setting it up to be sensitive enough for smaller birds......however it does work well for raptors....course those should always be released pack into a safe enviroment.
