After searching Youtube for this (Because it really, really intrigued me), I believe that the music that started playing is the theme from the final bowser fight in SMB1.
@r200reviews I've gotten to the end of the Lost Levels and it is the music that plays during the final fight with Bowser in the All Stars version. So I must assume that it is the same music at the final fight in SMB1 All Stars version too.
