Also most courtesans were sold to brothels by theyre family, between the age of 7-12, they became a maid of the brothel until they became(if they were lucky) a courtesan/prostitut. A kamuro is of age 5-10, shinzo 9-14, hashi-joro 12- koshi-joro 12- tayu 15- Not everybody becomes tayu, only the prettiest, the strongest.These girls and women went trough deep sorrow,most dident want to become prostitut, the were simply no other options, So they were sold. two words, HUMAN TRAFFICING!.

I found the movie on ebay. Just type in Tokyo Bordello-Yoshiwara. Its in English subtitles. The only interesting thing is not all the scenes on here are in that movie. Is there another movie being shown on here as well?

I'd also like to add that the Yoshiwara, the Shimabara and the Shinmachi pleasure districts were NOT slum-like at all until the late Meiji period. They were maintained BY THE GOVERNMENT who took great pride in the beauty of them. It was the unlicensed quarters that were nasty. That's not to say this movie isn't historically accurate, it surprisingly is. Life was very much like that for the prostitute, but it was better than being a wife in most cases.

There's far moreto the Oiran and the pleasure districts of Japan than just whoring and trafficing in human flesh. The tradition of the Oiran evolved from the Floating Women, the sexual shamenesses of the Heian and pre-Haeian periods. They were walled into the pleasure quarters partially as a way of controlling them, but in reality it was for protection of their holy Pleasure Queens who brought good luck, but were being kidnapped and raped by the scum of the society.

I love this video. So very touching. How did you get Yoshiwara Enjyo with English Subtitles? All the places I have looked its only in Chinese subtitles. I really want to buy this movie, but I can't read Chinese or speak Japanese so I won't understand what they are saying.
