@johncartelli Yeah, I spoke too soon John. ..He did shoot him this goofy what the F look and then gave him a quick finger. They played more stuff on the show that night that wasn't in this vid. It was a real classic .
You know, it's just really sad that the guy had/has such crazy weight issues and lost his leg from it. He always looked healthiest "husky, but not fat" as he was in recent years. Also, I really didn't much care for his "tone change" in the 80's/90's.... but I guess he was just going with the flow of things.
that ''leslie west'' sound..incredible..often imitated... leslie can play ballads, and then come at you like a catagory 5 hurricane...LESLIE IS THE MAN!!!
@Raffyrock88 Spot on, yah noticed! Yes, my blood felt like it was flowing @ twice its normal speed when he broke into Nantucket Sleigh ride! Network TV didn't know what HIT EM! Leslie, always raw and true to his roots. He NEVER sold out, not to music execs, and not to the TV execs and not to us fans!!
@Clivebarker88 That would be the legendary Corky Laing, one of the hardest hitting drummers of his era. A jazz drummer originally, his timing.... impeccable.
Awesome! I remember this broadcast well. Dennis Miller had the best sound production for his musical guests of any TV show I can remember. You may recall that Spirit (Randy California) also played on this show. I'd LOVE to see that again too :D
Such a great video and great songs that they play too! My husband Dennis and I have been to many of the Mountain shows witch features our great friend & favorite guitar player Richie Scarlet. Thanks for posting it!
wow! really good version with mountain at their best!! you gotta admire leslies bend and corkys power. two of the best in the music world!! thx depper.
Wow, great post, Depp!!! I remember seeing this back in '92. First time I saw a slimmed-down Leslie. How much weight you reckon he lost? At least 100 lbs, right? He was enormous when he toured with The Leslie West Band. I wonder, had he been this thin back in the early years of Mountain, if he wouldn't have been a bigger star? Anyhow...I liked his "Steinberger years"...I thought he did some interesting things with the whammy bar. Thanks again for posting this, Depp! All my best to ya!
@gbrycki I honestly believe it would be about the same. Drugs are what killed Mountain in the 70s. If anything Leslie's weight worked FOR the band, both then and now. Leslie's cult status is still being written. Each day Leslie perseveres, taking on the real life challenges so many of us face, obesity, drugs, cancer, diabetes, and now a leg amputation. A heart of a Lion, a true survivor, people CARE about Leslie West today. The fact his star shines bright today, 45 years later, is proof.
@gbrycki I also am a fan of his Steinberger days in the late 80s/90s. When 80s rock was sounding so kayfabe, out comes Leslie with a whole other sound. Leslie used that wammie bar differently than 99% of players did at the time, and combined with his best-in-class vibrato, no one on the planet sounded like him.
@jimbronxny Leslie West is BACK. He will be on that stage with the support and love of Michael Schenker and Uli Jon Roth. They will each do sets, then all get on stage together. This is already looking like it will be one of the Great rock tours, with passion, soul and BAD ASS written ALL over it!!!
THIS IS AS BAD AS CLASSIS ROCK GETS!!!

It seems that Leslie has kept up with the times as far as equipment, tone and chops go. I almost didn't recognize him without the extra bodyweight.
