I'm a social worker and taking children away is never something social workers want to do. It's a last resort! Besides social workers don't have the power to remove children, only police can do that!

@HeatherLouise25 To be clear, I am referring to the fact that social workers can't just walk into a house and remove children when they feel like it without going through the proper channels. We don't have the power to remove, we are able to reccommend removal which is then put into action by the courts and the police.

@binksaboobles I watched only one episode of this show once. The workers did everything to seperate the father and the son. (Father had a metal illness but they didn't even try to fix him) And at the end of the show mother "decided" to leave her other kid for adoption. And all those workers were like "she did the right thing etc." as if it was simple. I don't know. It is wrong to prejudge I admit but those workers didn't seem to be so sad while seperating the family.
