  • delicious to eat but what a hassle to cook because each layer baked before the next.....u could be in the kitchen for the whole day depending on how many layers!!!

  • Does it mean you have to bake every layer one at a time until its brown?

If i were to make this cake, how many layers should i make?

  • @hisyamuddinistari that's why indonesian people can make this up to 5 hours or more ^_^

  • @427jane in Singapore and Malaysia it's called Kueh Lapis... the pudding with white/red/green is also called kueh lapis.. steamed lapis....

  • kek lapis sarawak lagi cantik la.. ini biasa bisa aja..

  • @izaan923

aku dah pernah makan kek lapis serawak. Jiran bagi kat saya. Memang warnanya menarik (norak, merah kuning hijau) tapi rasa biasa saja. Malah terlalu manis. The thing is, lain tempat lain cita rasa/selera.

  • yes weird she should wear the gloves for both hands... but anyway our indonesians are also from chinese background :)

    that's diversity :)

  • My God! she's just using her hands in mixing those? not so hygenic..

  • If u were in Japan, the Chef would use their hands to do the sushi infront on you which is ready to eat....The cake is baked...u need the feel of the dough...so, it's best made with hands and they are safe as long they are washed....lol.

  • It's Lapis Legit!! yumm

  • Video is too noisy and why u show the video without telling us the ingredients measurement for the cake?

  • Can anyone advise if HOLLAND BAKERY in JAKARTA has a website as I understand they are well known for their Kueh Lapis. Thanks

  • i didnt think soft music had anything to do with the cooking.....

  • Wrong name! This is NOT steamed jelly-like kue lapis with its white and neon pink or green layers! Kue lapis is much lighter taste- and calorie-wise.

This in the video is what we in Holland call 'spekkoek' (spek = bacon, the stripes look like bacon and it contains a LOT of fat because of the large quantity of butter that's in it). It has a strong taste of oriental spices.

  • ya man im also live in holland.

its Spekkoek. its not Kue lapis

  • It's known as Indonesian Layered Cake direct translation of Indonesian Kueh Lapis a.k.a Spekkoek [which my Dutch friends don't even knew it existed or even heard of :-P] a.k.a Lapis Legit. The white-pink layered kueh a.k.a 9 layered Kueh or Chinese Layered is made from coconut milk & Rice flour.Thai versions even more colorful called Khanom Chan made of rice flour, tapioca flour and mung bean flour...All of them yummylicious!

  • hey man spekkoek is Indonesian addapt by the dutch during occupation for more 350 years cause dutch has no culinary at all :) mostly the people can't cook :)

  • Ogh.. I love this cake :D

I got the pink/white/green pudding like one now :D thats the best one!

  • why u mix with hand.....?? not with spatulla??

my mom always use with spatulla.

  • who cares what ur mom use!

  • It is the best cake...but too much work and very difficult to make a good one, especially most of the receipe in the internet is not correct. It is better off just buy it. My favorite is from Holland Bakery in Jakarta. It cost only about $35...

  • Oh yes... one more thing.. difference between kueh lapis and kek lapis is, (Kueh Lapis is equivalent to the Nyonya Kueh lapis, made from rice flour and steamed... Kek Lapis is heavy batter cake, and it is baked)

  • Kue Lapis means (layered cake) in Bahasa Indonesia. There are variopus types of Kue Lapies (layered cake).. Eg, Kue Lapis Legit (which is the original spiced one) and there are Kue Lapis Strawberry (Which means Strawberry layered cake. It looks like the normal kue Lapis only that is Strawberry ice-cream flavoured). You should press it firmly (with a lapis presser, sold at Phoon Huat)after baking each layer and grease it with melted butter.

  • Once, I watched my grand mother made this...It is a lot of work. I think there is one missing step that causing your kue lapis legit does not look firm. You do not need to add butter in between layer, what you need to do is to press the layer so that it become firm.

  • You are right! My mom never smeared another layer of oil...the batter contains enough butter. She taught me how to press each layer flat with the smooth bottom of a drinking glass.

  • yes it's not called kue lapis. It's lapis legit.

  • i believe this is Indonesian lapis legit (spiced thousand layers cake) instead just kue lapis, because Indonesian kue lapis uses rice flour and coconut milk ^_^

i love this Lapis Legit, very very yummy!

  • what do you put between batter layering?

  • melted butter or grease

  • Very nice video! What about putting up the recipe?
