  • u need to beat the whole god challenge to have the suit?

  • I didn't realize that triangle followed by roll is stronger. Is it stronger in the sense that it is quicker?

  • Pretty much so.

  • TESTING

Barrier 1 (Wood) - Plume is a good call. It is weaker then Ascension yet curious auto-breaks the barrier.

    Hydra 1 - (roll) t *early* to s,t (roll) t

    Good pre-faint strat.

Glitch - Hits during the 'fainting' don't count and landing one just as the box appears can cause the Hydra to glitch awaken (later glitch fainting) right away.

Glitch - For the first time, He stayed past 0HP for about 8 seconds.

NOTE: He's worth a tad more EXP when grabbed *expected*

  • NOTE: If you did nothing but whore circle grabs you could get at least 750EXP in the first battle. But you won't be dicking around in battle like that..nor opening chests..so with JUST forced fights..we'll see..

Hmmm...I'd forgotten that GoW1 does't use percentile changes via Difficulty for anything put Power, Armor and (Enemy) Recovery..so for stats like EXP, HP and MP worth, it's totally about the costume choice. (we have 400% EXP then) Sorry about that.

  • I abused Hydra 1 for EXP and found that its mini-game grants no RotG bonus. Game frooze before I could test on Hydra 2,3,4 and King concerning that matter. Takes forever.

Hydra 1 - Your strat after he faints checks out too. (roll to t) It is more reliable though possibly slower then having a Spirit to Ascension (to s,t) prepared. Hard to tell.

Hydra 2 - (Roll) t *repeat* is difficult to keep up.

    t1 = 6/6 (normal/defualt)

NOTE: 12 damage is almost a Spirit *12 or 14 damage*

  • Some alternatives I've tried (between 4 and 5 o'clock position *preferably lots of his triple head pound and less of his grabs*):

    -(holding foward) s,t *repeat*

    -s,t,Ascension *repeat*

NOTE: Plumes more often hit when the head is close to the ground/point of impact

NOTE2: On Hydra 1 and 2, air grabs during their roars/taunts knock them out of it while giving HP (sometimes EXP) like a real hit would.

  • Single Head skip - Can do this.

Double Head skip - Can't figure this shit out

NOTE: In a go of it where I wasn't dicking around for EXP but did the Single Head skip, I had enough EXP to get lvl2. Turns out RotG for Tycoonius/Ares Armor on Easy is far better then expect as you can skip ever smashing its head into the pool and just reduce it's life to OHP (t,t,t). HP bar changed color..

NOTE3: Hitting it's head as it falls and send it back up again (to fall)

  • So I suppose we can get RotG by then even while speedrunning through AND it is quite helpful to boot.

    ---

So I pulled off the Double Head skip finally. Not sure what I did differently but whatever.

It could be wiser to just destroy a single head then skip the other, level BoC and use RotG to go for 0HP.. rather then skip both heads and just do the usual routine.

Not sure. I suggest a video comparison of some sort. (you game?)

  • Playing like this freezes the game alot...so I'm done for tonight. (13 or so freezes later)

    ~Hope to hear more soon

  • Hmm, so it wasn't my disc but the game itself? Good news, sort of.

  • Not exactly great news, but that's probably the case.

  • NOTE: so all (or most of) the mini-games are skipped with this? That's great news.

  • All but the final grab. The ass beating dealt as he falls the first time sends him right to the final daze if you force his HP down to ZERO which is a tall order (impossible) on other settings.

    At alt.TUGOWU I posted a tad more.

I did't use RotG on Medusa but with the lvl2 Blades (for these settings) "s,t,s,t,R1,t to grab" is an insanely fast strat. It really seems like short range/forced battles will be all about usage of weapons rather then spells.

  • Note 2: strange.

  • Hydra 2 - yeah, I know, a tad difficult. Fortunately you can roll out of every of his attack attempts.

  • Not so easily done while keeping up an offensive. Which is why we restart whore... but I still suggest "s,t,T" (Ascension) *repeat* from between 4 and 4 o'clock.

  • Barrier 1 - isn't it strange?

Glitch - so you mean he was drained of HP but nothing happened until 8 seconds later?

  • Barrier 1 - Very.

Glitch - Nothing except I kept beating his ass with 0HP for 8 seconds. Previously that has never happened to me.

  • I - Seems good.

II - So it would seem roll to triangle is the fastest way to go here..

III - I'd advise a plume/Spirit ONLY if it can be landed (obviously)..keep in mind that Ascension is STRONGER then a Plume in GoW1.. and will not miss so easily. *slightly faster then the GoW1 version if I recall right*

~Even while rusty, I know combat pretty well so I'll be watching for any further updates to this run's tactics/tricks. With pure power (and skips) you shouldn't need much help though.

  • III: Normally it seems this boss is immune to Plumes. During awakening, this is not always the case, though... but there might be something more powerful available, who knows.

  • III - ಠ_ಠ

Use Ascension in place of plume.

    Normal w/ default Kratos w/ lvl1 to lvl5 BoC

    Plume = 6 to 24

    Ascension = 8 to 32

I can't recall how exactly Costumes mix with Difficulty percentiles in GoW1..

IF with Tycoonius (or just on Easy), 2x power.

If both..perhaps 4x..hard to say. It's been a while. Cut me some slack.

SRSLY though..Ascension is fucking powerful in GoW1..it's quicker...and follows up everything faster (plume/Spirits/rolls/Rush)

  • Spells aren't effected by difficulty settings (as you should recall)..at least that only happens in CoO.

On Easy with Tycoonius, you'll be encouraged to use non-spell kills now and then.

NOTE: For the lulz, I may go give the Hydra area an ass kicking to test combat as Tycoonius on Easy. See if I can grant COMBAT tips for speed purposes.

  • Would you imagine Rage of the Gods come to an use at Big Hydra? I hope enough orbs can be amassed until then.

  • Easily so. In a speedrun..hard to say. I believe EXP on Easy is at 200%..and Tycoonius gives a percentile of 400% in that field I believe. Again, I don't know for sure how difficulties and costumes combine in GoW1 (I know CoO and GoWII by heart but it was never pressing to know in GoW1). You could have 400, 600 or even 800% EXP orb worth as is. Odds are good you'll have 800% (as it works with the others)

NOTE: You have the guide too now.

  • Now I'll grant a few tips for EXP gathering.. whether or not they fit in with your SPEEDRUN is not what I'll be considering..I'll leave that to you.

Considering the power of the costume AND the setting..you'll likely have 4x power which essentially starts you with lvl5 Blades power. Don't expect combos (via specials like CoC) to be your saving grace...but PR (between groups and preferably at a low level) can help.

Your power won't effect your grabs (as you know).

  • Recall that Cursed and Fallen Legionnaires are the only ones that give EXP when you use the triangle option (Grab Select).

Each punch in the circle grab (Grab Select) before the finishing stab grants another hit on the combo meter (which rewards you as you know) along with EXP. It "milks" for extra EXP so to speak. IF you were just trying to get EXP enough for RotG before the Hydra, you could EASILY do that..

To be honest...you would still probably need to go out of your way a little.

  • And it probably would't be worth it even for the 2x power advantage against the Hydra King. The POWER you have now..is rediculous. Surely you've already had a go with the big head and seen this for yourself.

I've turned on the disc..been a while. I'll see what I can do.

NOTE: That guy on Shen's speedrun talking about ejecting the disc during FMVs then putting it back in..that works but you've already stated those don't count towards our time..just saves our patience a bit

  • NOTE: I found it myself looong time ago.

  • That would be far more awesome if it actually did save time..at least it does in a sense..

  • Cheapskate. A new official Sony controller can be bought for less than £15 or whatever that is in euros.

The controller trouble manifests itself with Kratos walking slowly in one direction with the stick neutral, usually clears itself up.

  • I have a trouble with spending money. Whatever I might need I'm reluctant to go and purchase. If there's a long-term plan behind the buy, it's likely it won't happen until after the cows have come home.

I get the trouble you mention, but the stick is literally sticking in a bad direction, so it's not a surprise.

  • As always your grasp of English sayings astounds me, better than many natives.

I thought it was down to a sticky stick but entering the select menu seems to alleviate it.

It is at its worse with my wireless controller (tacky aftermarket crap and easily lost) and slightly worse when I use my wired controller in conjunction with an extension cable.

Tycoonius? I could take him seriously if not for the preposterous briefcases

  • Until the cows come home? Why, I've been saying that since, uhh... the cows left home. >,>

But that's how it works in real life! With the briefcases 'n all.

  • So a new disc and controller are the order of the day Mr Akheon?

Ever have trouble when first starting the game with the left analogue "pulling" slightly in one direction?

Ultra refined, cheesed-up-speedrun, should be amusing

  • No way I'm getting new ones any time soon. I'm too cheap for that.

What sorta trouble do you mean?
