  • @thickey1156 this is actually from June 3,1981

  • Watching this is a real treat with the continuous action, compared to today where they barely move but the announcers continuously just talk up nothing.

Here's in Japanese and it's STILL better than the crap that came after which is more soap-opera than wrestling.

  • I hate how people always talk about Hogan's wrestling ability...I remember many memorable matches where Hogan worked his ass off. I've seen Hogan work just a hard as Flair and Race and other legends but hes never given credit...and for the record, If Hogan wanted too, he could have taken Backlund apart

  • @joeybrabham

You are SO full of shit!

Backlund's the BEST wrestler there ever was, Hogan's the WORST!

Backlund was the enforcer backstage for the WWF against wrestlers who were trouble.

He took on everyone, and always won. Unbeatable-- he could really do in real life what he did in the ring.

  • @SovereignStatesman Hogan would have taken him apart, everyone knows that! Backlund was a rat for the office and Backlund was never one of the boys...he always though he was better that everyone else and when Hogan took over Backlund went awol!

  • @joeybrabham

You're an idiot. Everyone knew that Backlund was the best real-life wrestler in the business. Backlund just wasn't a circus-freak like Hogan, and Vince took over and turned it into a freakshow.

  • @SovereignStatesman The iron sheik would have killed backlund in a shoot and sent him back to Mayberry!

  • the juice really gave hogan back hair he must got it removed for good or has to wax it all the time hes very hairy back then

  • I love how people knock Hogan for not having "Wrestling Talent" back in the day...I think today's fan equates talent with being an acrobat. Hardly anybody did acrobatics in wrestling back then. And as far as real wrestling ability I mean come on...aside from Kurt Angle none of these guys including Bret Hart ever won anything legit. Oooooh they wrestled in high school, gimme a break! Hogan was entertaining, that's the point of it. If you wanna see a real fight watch the UFC.

  • @Jonwood74 I agree with you, people need to lay off of Hogan, if Backlund would have remained Champion, wrestling would have never gone mainstream the way it did, Backlund didn't have the charisma!

  • @joeybrabham

You're a fool, Backlund would have sent Sheik to Allah.

  • love this young hogan with arrogance & bad attitude suits him to a T.....

  • Hulk Hogan was a steroid based cartoon character with zero wrestling talent.

  • @cschin4

    And you are a retard

  • ITS FUCKING FAKE

  • @balos557 Wrestling is real

  • @balos557 Wow, how did you figure THAT out, Einstein? Thanks for telling us, since nobody else watching this video realized this! So wrestling is fake, eh... Who would've thought so...? XD

  • Classic "test of strength" , 4:05. You don't see that anymore these days.

  • @Holyspiritguide Because no 1 wants to see it ,the audience was fallin asleep the commentator's must have been doin coke the way they where rambling on about nothing

  • It's interesting seeing how well built Backlund was at this point in his career, because it was this trip to Japan that he was introduced to "bodyweight" strength training. He soon progressively lessened his standard weight training and by the end of his title reign in 1983, he was noticably less muscular.

  • Hairy Back Hogan!

  • I remember when Backlund came back to the WWF in about 1992, and they made a big deal about how a 43 year old was going to try and win the belt again. It seemed crazy at the time. Now 43 isn't old at all in pro wrestling, lol. In TNA it would actually be considered young.

  • @MrDirkDaring Heck,Ric Flair held the WWF Title not even a year before that, and he was 43 then.It was no big deal.

  • In this Video, Mr.Yamamoto Commentator said "Hogan Will be a Champion after 5Years."

  • Bob Backlund can out-wrestle Hogan with both his hands tied behind his back.

  • WOW! Backlunds Jacked up!

  • Thunderlips, lol

  • Wow! Hogan was pretty good back then. He had some speed for his size.

  • great match

  • its more like backlund vs. Thunderlips

  • Backlund was great back in the day. Beat giants like John Studd and Blackjack Mulligan.

  • 8:02 hogans sells the the drop kick big time!!!!

  • Notice the crowd didn't boo Hogan but did cheer Backlund. They were classy people even wrestling matches! lmao

  • It musta been hard 2 work a match in Japan back then. The crowd was so quiet, how 2 u work 2 the crowd and give em what they want when they ain't sayin nothing?? I mean how do u "power up" when there is no cheers 2 "help" u "power up" Like Backlund did in the test of strength

  • The most talented WWE Champion of all time vs. The most famous WWE Champion of all time.

  • @Sanguiluna Actually it was the WWWF- World Wide Wrestling Federation and later the WWF- World Wrestling Federation- you may be too young to remember that. but you are absolutely right Bob Backlund was very taleneted and dedicated to the "sport" of Wrestling for which Vince McMahon "Sr." marketed very well from 1978-1983 And Hulk Hogan poularized wrestling to a money making soap opera for which Vince McMahon"Jr." transitioned it from a "sport" to "sports entertainment" Backlund was the best.

  • @kdemonde Even Bob Backlund said himself that putting the title on Hulk Hogan was a good business decision, but I still don't blame him for not wanting to turn heel then and job to Hulk Hogan.

  • @landrykkb Yeah. No one likes to be told they're thru. Bob had a heck of a long run though. 5 1/2 years.

  • @aitraining For what it's worth, his run was longer than Hulk Hogan's first reign of 4+ years.

  • @kdemonde

lol you think it used to be real?

  • @IGiveAndYouTake Never said i thought it used to be "real" however when i was a kid watching it in the 70's & 80's there was more of a "realistic" overtone to it as opposed to today's performances. Which made it much more entertaining for me to watch. When i was about 10yrs old the WWF used to hold matches in NYC in small venues. My father got tickets and i went to see that card, afterwards when i was leaving the center i saw Ivan Putski and Stan Stasiak getting in a car together....

  • @IGiveAndYouTake and i was amazed cause they just finished beating the hell out of each other in the ring and there they were laughing and joking in the parking lot. So i was confused and i asked my father "why are they acting like friends when they just beat each other up? i thought they hated each other?" Then my father told me the "truth" about wrestling and although i understood, i accepted that it was fake but as long as i was kept entertained i was good. The atmosphere was different then.

  • @kdemonde

So in other words, you liked it when you were so stupid that you thought it was real, then your dad told you that it was fake and then you grew up and now you're an adult who knows it is fake you don't like it, but watching old clips reminds you of the idiot kid you once were which makes you smile.

It was just as fake and stupid and money making soap-opera then as it is now, it just wasn't as popular.

  • @IGiveAndYouTake I thought i could explain it to you with the thoughts that i was communicating with a person of a sensible disposition but however i see that you are a disrespectful ingrate that gets off throwing insults behind a computer with all the luxuries of non physical confrontation. So in other words you're an "Internet Punk" who talks shit on youtube.....i can continue with contributing to your obvious lonely lifestyle but i don't have the time. Have a Happy New Year Internet Coward!!

  • @kdemonde I love the hypocrisy of complaining about someone else "throwing insults behind a computer with all the luxuries of non physical confrontation." while calling me a punk, lonely and a coward.

It's also funny that I make decent points and actually adress something, to which you respond by evading the points, insults and running away.

    Says a lot about you.

  • @IGiveAndYouTake With provocation i call it as i see it... you credit yourself with making a point from my observation as a 10 yr old child?? After being disrespected i actually didnt choose to elaborate or even counter your so-called "point" i would'nt have minded your analytical take on this mundane matter without being insulted, but maybe your insecurities only lead to that negative form of communication, i'm sure i'm not the first, this may be a habit for you, Says a great deal about you...

  • @kdemonde

If you refuse to make credible points everytime you feel disrespected you're going to go through life looking like an utter moron.

You'd probably "be disrespected" a hell of a lot less if you acted more rationally.

  • @IGiveAndYouTake Will you two knock it off, already? People came here to watch the video not to see a pointless arguement.

  • @Elementa2006

You only read the argument if you choose to read through the comments

  • @IGiveAndYouTake you can also read the arguement if you want to post comments and you find these arguments especially if almost fill the entire page

  • Hogan's ego is second to only Vinny Mac's. While he wasn't as bad as some make him out to be as a wrestler, he'd never had had a chance with someone with a real wrestling background in a true shoot. Backlund was born a generation too soon. He'd probably have been a star in MMA.

  • @SkyDogJr

    he was in bushido

  • special camera effects. Makes you look a lot wider than you really are. In truth, Hogan would not stand a chance against Bob Backland.

  • Hulk Hogan was second to non

  • always liked Terry better as a heel.

  • How 'bout that? The Japanese crowd is SO QUIET, you can actually HEAR Hogan!

  • Backlund was pretty built back in the day!!

  • bob backlund is 6'1 @240lbs hulk hogan looks like bob backlund x3

  • @TAFKABB Backlund was very strong in his title reign prime. Many of his heel counterparts admitted later on. Hogan had a decent heel run with WWF in 1980. Wrestled Andre in Shea Stadium that year too.

  • Comment removed

  • well in 1980 he was unknown anywhere outside of the southeastern USA, but he would rule Japan just 2 years later and the USA in 3 so Bah to you.

  • a great one thank you

  • love the vidieos and by the way Brody rules.....any chance of him vs Hogan??????????
