I saw the Edward Hopper exibit at the MFA in Boston last year and I had the audio guide in my ears telling me about the history of some of his paintings. When I got to Nighthawk, I found the audio presentaion to be disabling to my experience of seeing for myself what was in this great painting. I tore away the head phones because It dulled my senses of what stood before me.
There is a real danger in presenting a painting through video interpretation vs self exploration of the piece.
